    It's inevitable (unfortunately)

Good matchup for us in the first round with Vegas. The Kings have beaten them twice this season and have the best record against them of any playoff team.

Holland and Blashill expected to return

My Spidey sense is telling me the team's long term plan is Draper. Holland is on for 2 more years to groom him as a successor, before Kenny moves up to "Special Advisor" or some other newly created position. I have a feeling KH is carried out of LCA in a coffin. He's not going anywhere. Let's just hope Draper doesn't mimic Yzerman and Mill and move onto another team because he's stuck in middle management,

Holland and Blashill expected to return

Two years = no chance at Yzerman. I was OK with 1 year, but 2 is just dumb.

How many other players go out like that tho. That's the downside to having twins. It's great when they're really good, but they're twins, so you lose your 2 best players at the same time too.

Official 2018 NHL Amateur Entry Draft Discussion Thread

I'm not worried about this draft at all. Obviously, I would love to get Dahlin or even Svechnikov, but even if we pick 3-7, we are still getting a really good player. I would be thrilled with any of Boqvist, Hughes, Zadina, Tkachuk, Bouchard. And I don't see Holland going off board if any of those guys are available. Even better is the possibility that we could still snag a Veleno, Kupari, or Wilde with the second first rounder. No reason to trade up this year at all. I mean, I just wouldn't be that upset if we don't get Dahlin. We're still getting at least one, and probably 2 solid prospects. I'm stoked.

First Bold: 5 Cups. 2nd Bold: It was the 80's. You weren't allowed to come out of the closet back then.
  15. While I'm sure there would have been takers on Hasek, the reasons you gave for CuJo not getting interest are the exact same reasons why Holland should have been trying to trade him over Hasek. In 2004, we had just come off an embarrassing 1st round sweep by the Ducks with CuJo in net IIRC. We were in the middle of a Dynasty, won the President's Trophy, and were once again a favorite for the Cup. Under those circumstances, you trade the 8 million dollar goalie with the ankle injury and keep the healthier, equally priced goalie with the better resume. Being that we got knocked out that year by the lower-seeded Flames, hindsight says maybe KH should have done something differently. But, can you imagine if Holland traded Hasek instead of CuJo? Everyone would be talking about what an idiot he was for choosing "No Cup CuJo" over arguably the best goalie of all time. And how we would have won the Cup if only he kept Hasek.

    Should any of #91, #13, #40, #30 be retired? Poll/Discussion

Yeah. I've heard this said before so I looked into it once. There's certainly a perception there, and I've read articles on it from some knowledgeable writers, but mathematically, its not true. Goalies make up approximately 9% of NHL players. There are 271 skaters in the Hall, 35 of whom are goalies. That's 13%. Statistically, you're more likely to get in as a goalie, believe it or not. I think the perception comes more from the fact there are more marginal/borderline skaters that get in, and there some seemingly deserving goalies that aren't.

GDT: Loser point and oh ya, Howard is garbage

yes, because its against NHL competition. 31 shots, 0 goals. Its not just impressive when Mrazek does it.

    Should any of #91, #13, #40, #30 be retired? Poll/Discussion

Because Ozzie is a goalie, and we all know Chaps' pants "tent" over goalies!

GDT: Loser point and oh ya, Howard is garbage

So Howard gives up 5 goals on 41 shots and that makes him bad. Bobrovsky gave up 4 goals on 27 shots, so he must be REALLY bad, right? Is that how this works? I know 4 days is a long time to remember something, but Howard just posted a 31 save shutout on Ottawa.

Sedin Twins Calling it a Career After Season

Like Franzen I am pretty sure that if he retires early, the Wings are hit with a cap penalty of 6+million for each year left on his contract. Even with a buyout, the hit would be less, but the length of time would double. If he doesn't want to finish it out, he would have to go on LTIRetirement or it would really screw the team.

That roster belongs nowhere near the finals. Kipper was lights out in the playoffs. That's why they made the finals and beat the Wings. That D corp is average. A lot of 2nd pair caliber guys there. (Unless of course you count the elite Mike Commodore ) Also, I wouldn't call a Game 6 OT victory a rout.

    It's inevitable (unfortunately)

No: Any team who has won the cup since 95. Can't have anyone else compare to the Wings Dynasty. That eliminates NJD, COL, DAL, CAR, TBL, PIT, LAK, ANA, CHI, BOS. Also, "no" to the Maple Leafs. Someone has to remain the laughing stock of the NHL. "No" to MTL because they're too pretentious. There is no universe where a first year expansion team deserves to come near a Stanley Cup. Sorry, VGK. YES: San Jose, Washington, St Louis, Nashville, Vancouver. None of these teams have won a Stanley Cup, and they've all had decent teams in recent years that probably deserved one. MEH: Arizona, Minnesota, Florida, Buffalo, NYI, Ottawa, NYR, Edmonton, Calgary, Columbus, Winnipeg, Florida, Philly.
