I'm putting "unlimited freelancer" on my resume. In regards to Howard, it would nice to get something back if a Wings goalie is going to Long Island again. Unlike the last 2 they poached from us.
-
They should all show up wearing their national team jerseys.

I'm guessing. Nyquist 1 year 4.75. Tatar 3 years at 5.3 each. Similar players. So you'd rather trade Nyquist? He's not the future anymore?

Should any of #91, #13, #40, #30 be retired? Poll/Discussion

Good. Hopefully it becomes easier to diagnose and treat much like Alzheimer's or other dementia has. Are we fighting? I feel like we're fighting. -

Didn't get to see the game, had to work. Was Mrazek actually good? Or were the Hawks just Toews-like today? -

No no. I wasn't implying Franzens neurological issues compared to Vladdies. Lemons and oranges. Franzen doesn't appear to have issues with motor skills to the extreme that Vladdie obviously does. Vladdies brain damage was acute and severe. Franzens, chronic and the severity TBD. Their brain traumas are different for sure, but is Vladdie the benchmark for injury related decirculation? IDK. And we can't know if Franzen has CTE. It's like Rabies, it can't be definitively diagnosed until after death when the skull is opened up and the brain is examined IIRC. But apparently Franzen is already gone according to another thread. But even then, its not checked for unless it's suspected, like Junior Seau. So we may never know. I actually like the idea of removing 24 from being worn in honor of Probert, Salei, and Chelios. As for Fischer, that's tricky, as he wore more than one number. But otherwise I would do it. I"m not arguing for it, but since Franzen is still on LTIR instead of retiring, it might be good to keep it out of circulation so that its not obvious that the team is cap circumventing. Besides, I can't see anybody wanting it anyway. -

I agree, you must have posted while I was editing mine. I went back and read it and realized how ridiculous it sounded as it was. Yes, There are years where you have an Ovie. A generational talent you take. I realize there are times you do, but they better be elite or the other positions better be weak. If its a Laine and then a drop in talent then you take him. But there seems to be a lot of good talent this year and I don't know that he's that much better than others in the top 10 at more desirable positions. He may not even be the best forward in the eyes of some teams. If this was last year for example, Svech would go much higher, this year I think he goes lower potentially. I would still take him if he's there, but I could see him drop down a couple of spots and some D go higher than expected. I wouldn't be surprised to see a run on defenseman early on either. As many as 7 in the top 10. A few weeks ago, I would say he almost certainly goes 2nd behind Dahlin, but I dont think its as certain now as it was. -

1st bold: I am not really surprised. I'm not sure a Winger should ever be drafted in the top 5 unless they're hands down better than anyone else. Its a really good draft this year, so draft D and C. I'd still take him tho cuz I think having both Svech bros on a line with Rass would be awesome. 2nd bold: Entirely possible, but I am expecting a top 6. Unless Boqvist, Hughes, Tkachuk or Zadina are available, trade down. -

I'm sure that works really well on exit interviews. Blashill: "Losses are good though, Ken. It's get you a higher draft pick. I just made your job easiier. You're welcome." -

I hope you're right. I just remember reading articles about what he was experiencing like these: https://deadspin.com/johan-franzens-brain-is-not-healthy-1698244079 http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2015/04/latest_concussion_makes_red_wi.html I am certainly not a neurologist and i am no expert on CTE or concussions, but the fact that this was over 2 years ago now and he isn't back to playing makes me think he has some degree of permanent brain damage. That's scary. Maybe it never progresses to the level of some others ( I hope not). I haven't read anything more recently about how he is doing tho. Maybe the symptoms have subsided? IDK. I just hope for the best for him. Ask my friend Miranda. -
NO, I read what you posted, I just misunderstood your argument. I thought you were arguing for Crosby in the All Star game because he is the better player overall, regardless of season (which he is). Now I understand it that you're saying that Crosby is also the better performer this season in your opinion.? If that's what you're saying than that makes more sense. I don't agree, but i get it. I just don't like seeing guys get in because of their name only. If a guy is having a down year, don't put him in. Give a guy a chance who's having a great year but who's not always there. That's parity. I thought that's what the league is all about now. And no, there is no pro-crosby conspiracy. Nor is there a snub. There are always guys who deserve to be there that don't get in.

I am sure tires are being kicked. Besides demand will go up the closer we get to the deadline. My concern is that Nyquist's play starts to decline before that and his value then goes down. Its a gamble for sure. I could see one being traded, but not both. I would like to see something like a 2nd, a legit prospect D to start and then go from there. Could end up multiple pieces going both ways.

I know what you meant, just trying to show the Mule some love. The guy is in for rough years down the road. Would not be surprised if he suffers from headaches now and depression and psychological issues later. The guy basically gave his brain, and a normal life, to this team to the point that it compromised his play on the ice significantly and then he gets accused of being lazy and indifferent because of it. I was always supportive of Franzen, even after his game diminished, because concussions and CTE are no joke. Something was clearly wrong and he deserved the benefit of the doubt, and its a shame so many wouldn't give him that. I don't recall you being a Franzen hater tho, so I'm definitely not directing anything at you. Anyway, I would be OK with 93 getting the 16 treatment tho. -
Dominic Turgeon recalled from the Griffins

Bertuzzi, then Turgeon. I am assuming Holmstrom is next? -
Yeah but the All Star game is an annual event and the players who are selected should be there based on how they've performed in that given year, not their overall body of work. Because of that, I agree with others that Kessel should be there over Crosby based on this season. Otherwise it would just be the exact same players every year, which would be pointless. If we're talking about the HOF, which is career based, then yes, Crosby belongs there instead of Kessel. Kessel is the NHL's John Daley.

I am one Wings fan who totally agrees with you and would not be shocked if Holland does that. Although I would still stick to my earlier post IF the first pick is in the top 6. Any firsts after that, I would be totally cool with trading down especially if if adds another 1st or 2nd or allows KH to get rid of a bad contract. -
I don't have McKenzie or Dreger's connections, but I find it hard to believe that teams aren't inquiring about Nyquist, especially when the Wings are supposed to be 'rebuilding' and he's been playing so well lately. Sometimes I feel like Holland holds on to guys when they start playing well in order to justify his contracts. Its like "See, I was right! They are worth that." When he should instead be trading them for maximum value. 3 "A"s then?

I think Z should start scratching himself whenever he's on camera now. That way when its time to fake LTIR with the "Hossa Disease" it will seem more believable. Drunk girls beware if Kane gets an STD! -

And Marchessault is having a great season so far. The Knights totally pillaged (pun intended) the Panthers. -
I get what he's saying, but of course there are good and bad GMs. The bad ones usually get weeded out eventually, and even good ones lose their jobs. There's a reason why some GMs move from team to team. If they were bad GMs, they wouldn't keep finding jobs. Instead there are good GMs that just simply run their course. Such is Holland. I maintain that he is a good GM who just isn't the right fit in Detroit anymore. Even a good GM won't keep his job forever. Success requires the right GM with the right team at the right time. Change the team(dynamic) and/or time(scenario) and even a good GM will struggle. And that's when GMs get let go.

http://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/22030428/chicago-blackhawks-acquire-anthony-duclair-4-player-trade-arizona-coyotes Laurent Dauphin and Richard Panik for Duclair and Adam Clendening. So basically a tweener center and an underachieving bottom 6 journeyman winger for Duclair and an AHL defenseman. I feel like Holland could have gotten this one done. Based on this return, I don't see how a 2nd and someone like Puempel or Booth or Ouellet couldn't have gotten Duclair. This would have been exactly the type of trade Holland should be doing. Trade Green and you're looking at 4 picks in the first 2 rounds of the draft. Why not trade one of the 2nd rounders and an expendable player under those circumstances? What are the chances one of those 2nd rounders turns out to be as good as Duclair anyway? But hey, at least he'll have that fine young man Kane to mentor him. That should turn out really well.

Are you referring to Toronto? If this is the case, then this changes things a bit for me.I was under the impression that he couldnt play in GR. But I'm still optimistic.

Does the Hockey Hall of Fame do like the Baseball Hall of Fame and let the player choose what sweater he is wears in the Hall? I don't know, I've never been, so I dont know how they do it. If so, I think any player in a Red Wings sweater in the Hall should definitely be considered for jersey retirement. Also 40 will be retired and then 71.
