    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

He played 33 games out of 56 last season. I cant find it now, but I had read that he liked playing here, that there was some interest from other teams, but he opted to take his chances coming back to Detroit on a PTO. If its Detroit, or retire, that's his choice. Not unlike Mike Green. He is a RH shot, too. Something missing from the forward group besides Gagner and Stephens, who bring little offense. He's not a difference maker. But he brings some offense, a RH shot, and a veteran presence to the locker room. If he isn't holding anyone back, then I don't see the issue with a 1 year deal.

Exactly. No Canadian team will want him. The Atlantic and Pacific both have 3 Canadian teams, so those divisions are probably no-gos too. That leaves the Central (minus Winnipeg) and the Metro. Yzerman would get little value back even if he could find a trade partner.

Problem is, Bert's personal choice doesn't just hurt himself (financially), it also hurts the team by having a top line F out. Why they can't make exceptions for players with naturalized immunity or frequent testing is beyond me.

If they don't sign Ryan OR trade Bertuzzi, then Raymond has to be there by default.

If Vrana was healthy, I agree. If Ryan doesnt get moved up, then Veleno or Namestnikov has to.

Smith has to be on the roster or they will lose him on waivers. Ryan will be on the Wings roster if signed. Veleno is also making a case to be on the roster. If any if those 2 are on the roster, Raymond won't be. Witkowski and Hirose will be in GR. Honestly, I don't see a need to rush him into the NHL. My biggest fear is seeing him get demolished by bigger, stronger players. My personal preference is for him to play in GR this season and bulk up for next year. Bert Larkin Zadina Fabbri Suter Ryan Veleno Ras Erne Namaste Gagner Smith Stephens How I think it ends up to start the season

Played well last season too. Solid Helm replacement, but slower.

Erne and Ras were paired quite a bit in TC. Seemed to compliment each other. I think Ryan is 2nd line with Suter and Fabbri.

Still too many other forwards who would make the roster before Raymond.

A lot of fans seem to think he is going to be on the roster based on camp and preseason. He isn't. They need to de-hype.

Bertuzzi would miss upwards of $400,000 because he cannot play in Canada." "General manager Steve Yzerman revealed Wednesday that Bertuzzi, a top-line forward, is the only Wings player to not be vaccinated." "Larkin said he and Bertuzzi talked about the situation over the summer. 'He’s explained it to me. Tyler has thought a lot about it. I know that there’s a lot of support for him making his own decision, but there is also a part that everybody knows we are going to miss him when he can’t play.'" "'It's his decision,' Yzerman said. 'I am not in a position to force anyone. We can't force anyone to get vaccinated. I personally am vaccinated, my family is vaccinated. I'll leave it at that.'”

Didn't get to spend much time at TC this year. Wife loves going to Traverse City, but finds training camp boring. Based on what I did see: 1. Raymond showed absolute flashes of elite skill, but just looked gangly compared to the NHL regulars. He's going to need to bulk up to be an effective offensive player at the NHL level. 2. I thought Veleno looked good enough to earn a middle 6 role on the roster. We'll see if he does. 3. Troy Stecher is small and didn't look as good as I thought he was. 4. Marc Staal looked like one of the better D to me. Much better than I expected. He didn't lool like an aged vet nearing retirement. 5. Rasmussen still doesn't look as big as I was expecting. Tall, but not thick. 6. Smith looked competent. Nothing special, but good enough. Same with Stephens. 7. Witkowski somehow looked smaller and less intimidating. Maybe it was the lack of beard. 8. I was impressed with Tyutyayev. He's small, but has good speed and hands. I would not be surprised to see him in the NHL if he bulks up. A "diamond in the rough" steal as a 7th round pick. 9. Bobby Ryan was there on a PTO. I didn't get to see much of him, but with the Vrana injury, I would not be surprised if he gets another 1 year deal. Played great in the first preseason game. 10. Where was Suter?

https://www.mlive.com/redwings/2021/09/red-wings-jakub-vrana-out-four-months-due-to-shoulder-surgery.html I think this solidifies a roster spot for Bobby Ryan. Which wouldn't be a bad thing, he's looked good since his PTO.

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/coronavirus/in-depth/herd-immunity-and-coronavirus/art-20486808 From the Mayo Clinic. Dated August 28th. "Herd immunity occurs when a large portion of a community (the herd) becomes immune to a disease, making the spread of disease from person to person unlikely. As a result, the whole community becomes protected — not just those who are immune. There are two main paths to herd immunity for COVID-19 — infection and vaccines. Even if you have antibodies, you could get COVID-19 again. Herd immunity also can be reached when enough people have been vaccinated against a disease and have developed protective antibodies against future infection. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved one COVID-19 vaccine and given emergency use authorization to a handful of COVID-19 vaccines. But reaching herd immunity through vaccination against COVID-19 might be difficult for many reasons. However, the FDA-approved and FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective at protecting against severe illness requiring hospitalization and death due to COVID-19. Even if it isn’t currently possible to stop transmission of the COVID-19 virus, the vaccines are allowing people to better be able to live with the virus. However, if you are in an area with a high number of new COVID-19 cases in the last week, the CDC recommends wearing a mask indoors in public and outdoors in crowded areas or when you are in close contact with unvaccinated people." These guys are shameful partisans, am I right? Theyre clearly in on the Plandemic. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/09/10/moderna-most-effective-covid-vaccine-studies/ "People who were not fully vaccinated this spring and summer were more than 10 times more likely to be hospitalized, and 11 times more likely to die of covid-19, than those who were fully vaccinated, according to one of three major studies published Friday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that highlight the continued efficacy of all three vaccines amid the spread of the highly contagious delta variant. Nevertheless, the three vaccines showed continued robust protection for all adults — greater than 82 percent — against hospitalization, emergency room and urgent-care trips." I dont care what the terminology is. You get the shot, you are overwhelmingly better off.

To be fair, the MSM does single out the outliers when it comes to CoVid. The vast majority of serious cases and deaths are older or those with comorbidities. However the claims by the anti vaxxers that the vaccinated get CoVid too so it doesn't work or isnt necessary purposefully leaves out the data that shows that the vaxxed are less likely to have a severe case or die vs the unvaccinated. The fact that not all CoVid cases are equal eludes their peabrains.

I left the actual hospital environment years ago. Glad I am not working in one during the pandemic. I can't imagine the stress, fear, sadness, and frustration our frontline workers go thru. But it doesnt matter cuz CoVid is just the 'flu', right? Said no one who actually works in an ER or ICU. Yeah. There is competing science. There are some really knowledgeable, respected professionals who contradict each other. I can't speak for anyone else, but I always take debates with competing science and data with the "lesser evil" approach. Which is worse: 1. mask wearing and vaccination now only to find out later that it wasn't effective 2. refusal to do either now only to find out later it would have saved lives The science is still under debate and changing as we learn more. There is no definitive data yet. Why not err on the side of caution? If we find out later on that masks and vaccines were a complete waste of time, who cares? What irreparable harm did it do? I would rather be wrong and only cause inconvenience, then be wrong and kill people. Easy to say when you arent part of the 1%. You'd be surprised how fast people change their tune when they are.

Yamamoto isnt enough of a game changer to warrant the sourness that would come from doing that. Pass. The only 2 on that list I would consider are Pettersson and Tkachuk, but this team still needs a couple more high end picks to solidify the roster. I wouldn't want to pay the compensation at this point in the rebuild. Two years from now? Maybe.

Making an NHL team out of Ken Holland's 1st Round Picks

Holland still had to negotiate with Buffalo to get the deal done. He gets credit for that.
