I keep seeing fans of other teams saying similar things about Yzerman being overrated because he's getting high draft picks to rebuild with, and he hasn't accomplished anything in Detroit yet. Except he has. You could argue that he has won every trade he's made since becoming Red Wings GM, with perhaps the Perlini trade being the exception (although if Regula doesnt pan out, that trade would actually be a win). And the Fabbri, Mantha, and Ned trades especially, were considered big wins by pretty much everybody. And his draft picks? 6th, 4th, 6th, and 15th. Yeah. Those are gimmes, right? And it's like they completely forget that the team that just won 2 cups in a row was built by Yzerman. I dont get the hate.

Don Waddell only served under Jimmy D as Asst GM for the 97-98 season. He had already had about 10 years of management experience in the minors before that. I doubt Jimmy D had much at all to do with grooming Waddell in the business side of hockey. Don Waddell was also the GM, and later the Team President, of the Atlanta Thrashers. A team that failed miserably, despite being the 7th biggest US sports market. And a team that had more success moving to the smallest NHL market without him.

Kronwall is currently "Senior Advisor to the General Manager" which sounds just as bad. Draper is basically the Boss of all the amateur scouts. On some teams, that might be considered an Assistant General Manager position, as some teams give that title to anyone who is a department head and reports directly to the GM. But with the Red Wings, I think he is considered below that since Verbeek is the only one with Assistant GM in his title. Regardless, I dont know that Draper would replace Verbeek necessarily, since Mark Howe has seniority and is basically the same rank as he is the Director of Pro Scouting. I could see Draper going to Dallas as an Asst GM (they have multiple AGMs) under Jim Nill in the near future.

Mantha and Hronek situations are totally different. Mantha was a little bit older than the others. He was also lazy, and underperforming. None of this applies to Hronek. He is a valuable part of the future. Nurse is also 45 points higher in +/-

Anyone serving as an Assistant GM under Yzerman is bound to garner a lot of interest. I guess it would be fitting for Verbeek to end up managing the team he started with. But yeah, unless he bounces over Yzerman into Devellano's position, he can't really move up any higher without changing teams. And I think that could happen within the next couple of seasons.

It would be disappointing if Seider isnt on the roster. Not sure why both Oesterle and Staal were signed if all of Leddy, Lindstrom, Hronek, Stecher, DD and Seider were already on the roster, and would have to be waived to be sent down. I hope Seider is on the roster and DD gets waived instead of carrying 8 dmen. I would then add Witkowski as the 14th forward.

If Hirose hasnt bulked up by now, he never will. Larkin also played in North America the whole time and went from U of M to the NHL. As far as I know, Raymond has only played in Europe. I don't think Larkin's trajectory is a good comparable for making the jump to the NHL without time in the AHL first.

Bobby Ryan Anisimov might get a PTO. That's hit or miss. Worked for David Booth, not for PA Parenteau. SY isnt going to leave a spot open for a PTO. He'll fill it first and worry about making room later.
