Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?
Neomaxizoomdweebie replied to Neomaxizoomdweebie's topic in General
I think you undervalue Stecher. He's a bottom 4 D capable of playing on the 2nd pair for stretches. I think he would fetch a 3rd at the TDL. -

Lol. There won't be. Holland is gone. -
I was referring to your point about getting a Leddy like dman in free agency without losing an asset. At least this way we got what we all agreed this team needed. It's only an overpayment if SY COULD get one in free agency. And I think that was unlikely.

Stecher is 28. Past the age for the rebuild. He also was 1 year away from free agency and was unlikely to be re-signed with both Seider and Hronek on the right side. I liked Stecher, but there wasn't a fit for him on the team after this season. -
I would also argue that the likelihood of signing a Leddy level dman in free agency to a 1 or 2 year deal, at that salary, and then flipping them for a 1st or 2nd at the TDL, is pretty low. I was, and still am, in favor of signing Suter or Martinez (which still could happen), but if SY wasn't able to sign them, we would be way worse off, if not for the acquisition of Leddy.

Even if it's a 2nd, we still break even on the draft picks while adding a good veteran dman to the roster for most of the season. Still a win.

Not so sure. It wasn't just the roster that made Vegas that good, that fast. Coaching, some hidden gems, overachievers, and some luck all contributed to that. I think Seattle will be be a middling team. -
I dont think so. We basically flipped a 2nd round pick this year for a 1st round pick next year, when we trade Leddy at the TDL. And we flipped Panik essentially for Leddy. The retained salary just gets Yzerman closer to the salary floor. Win, win, win

Assuming Mo makes the roster, Stecher would have been pushed down to 3rd pair. Lindstrom should be able to fill that roster spot. Just sucks losing the potential pick for him at the TDL. -

I think that tells you what confidence SY had in Cholowski's development. Lindstrom is nothing special, but may still end up the better player. -

Vegas all over again. Give the team with no history an easier path to winning than the original 6 teams. Smh. -

Did you go to a Catholic School by chance? -
Kinda depends on what forwards he protects.
-
If he protects Leddy and Stecher, he can flip both for picks by the TDL. That also means he leaves both Cholowski and Lindstrom exposed. And I would expect that Martinez would still be a possibility if one of those are lost to Seattle. Martinez-Seider Leddy-Hronek DeKeyser-Stecher Cholowski/Lindstrom Probably the best D corp this team has had since Lidstrom retired.

Wha? That doesn't sound like Ken Holland at all. I mean, Hyman and BJ's kinda go together.

But I thought Carey Price was the piece to a Stanley Cup. Why would he want to give up assets to keep his backup? -

I am not advocating for replacing any if those players with Svech. I am simply giving a scenario where he could be kept without losing better players or keeping kids down who need to be on the roster. Top 6 as of now: Larkin, Vrana, Bert, Zadina, Namestnikov, Fabbri. Bottom 6 as of now: Ras, Svech, Erne, Smith, Nielsen, Panik. Still room to re-sign Glendening. Pipeline: Raymond, Berggren, Veleno I don't see Raymond or Berggren ready to make the leap next season. And Veleno could use a little more seasoning as a center in GR, IMO. And if Seattle takes Namestnikov, there is room for Veleno on the roster to start the season. If he isn't picked, at 28, I think Namestnikov is a little too old to fit into Yzerman's rebuild timeline. Since it's his last season on his contract, he could be flipped at the TDL for a pick, and Veleno could be brought up onto the roster permanently at that time. Nielsen is gone after this season. You could bring up either Berggren or Raymond next year to take his spot. The only issue next season at forward, is Fabbri. If SY wants to keep him, someone would have to be moved in order to make room for both Raymond and Berggren. He could choose not to re-sign him, demote a forward to GR, or make a trade. Regardless, it may be a moot, as SY may trade another roster player between now and then. Point being, I think Svech's development was stifled by injury, and I would like to see if he might still develop into an NHL regular. And it is possible to do it without hurting the roster or player development. Yeah. But he only has one year left in his contract and he may not fit into Yzermans plans anyway. Short term, he is definitely a better option than either of those 2. In the long run tho, it might be for the best. -
I wouldnt even do 5 years. Too many upcoming forwards to fit onto the roster. SY should be focused on 1 and 2 year deals for UFA forwards.

She was an 18 yo giving head to a 17 yo boy she barely knew. Plenty of shameful conduct to go around.

He bled quite a bit the first time he got poke checked. Not from Yzerman he didn't. I don't even wanna know how you got this picture. Glad this is an anonymous forum.

I think Cholowski has a higher ceiling, but a lower floor than Lindstrom. His ceiling is #4 dman, his floor is euro minor leaguer. Lindstroms ceiling is 3rd pair NHL regular, his floor is regular call up. Guess it depends on if you want to go with safer bet, or greater potential.
-
If you're worried about being photographed and embarrassed by it, then maybe don't do it in the first place.
-
This is my thought as well. He is just too young to know for sure how he will turn out. Lindstrom, on the other hand, is a Biega, Bowey level dman. Easy enough to replace, but still potentially better than Cholowski. Stecher is better than both. I would protect Hronek, Cholowski, Stecher

Bert, Vrana, Larkin, Namestnikov, Zadina, Fabbri in the top 6. Ras, Erne, Svech on the 3rd line. Namestnikov has only 1 year left. Bring up Raymond or Berggren next season to replace him. Fabbri has only one year left. Trade him at the TDL and bring up Veleno full time. Erne is also easily let go in favor of one of the kids. Or Bert may be traded which opens up a spot.
