I doubt it. Not a drop in talent between those 2 spots. Don't see SY giving up assets (probably a draft pick) just to get a specific player there.

I don't live in my mom's basement, smoke pot, and collect comic books and pokemon. I can't relate to your real life experience.

If Yzerman hadn't called Larkin in for a meeting and been impressed enough to name him captain of his Detroit Red Wings, I might agree with you. Seider will be the better player IMO. Seider will certainly be a leader in the locker room and on the ice. That doesn't mean that SY will publicly strip Larkin of his "C" in favor of Seider. No way. I don't see it happening unless Larkin actually does something seriously wrong, or he gets traded. Both are possible I guess, but I think the most likely scenario is that Larkin keeps his captaincy and Seider is named an alternate along with Bert or Glenny. I fail to see how this viewpoint is absurd in any way. Yeah. Defending sound and proven medical principles and protocols by someone with a medical background makes them a sheep to the media-government complex.

Sorry about your lead poisoning. Someone who wants to make a crap ton of money selling bottled water?

I never said the quote was from Yzerman. I directly quoted the article that said that Yzerman identified Larkin as part of his core. Which he has. Just not those exact words at that press conference. Ryan Johansen isnt a 1C? Pretty stupid of Poile to give up Seth Jones for a 2C then. Except he didn't. RJ is a 1C. And a poor man's 1C is still a 1C. Just like a C Class is a poor man's Mercedes, but it's still a Mercedes. Ha ha. Except Vrana wasn't drafted and developed by the Wings. He hasn't been with the team for 6 seasons. And he wasn't specifically given the captaincy by "The Captain" himself. Nor has he been a part of Yzerman's core from the beginning.

Okay. So if I stab a guy and he dies I should get the same punishment as if he lived. Got it. Seriously. Let's look at the Todd Bertuzzi suspension. Are you arguing that the punishment should be the same if Moore gets up and skates away? That's crazy. The league would never suspend a player for an entire year for a penalty like that if Moore wasn't hurt. But they would, and should if the player's career is ended. By your logic, the punishment should be the same whether Moore is ok, or his career is over. 1. Penalty A results in a 2 game suspension no matter what. 2. Penalty A could result in a 2 game suspension if the guy walks away, but could result in 10 games, 20 games or even a whole season if he's hurt. Which one is the bigger deterrent? I speak American Pierre.

If players cannot be punished based on the outcome of their actions, they would have no reason to play safer. If a player knows he can only punished with a game misconduct, at most, and a fine, that isn't much of a deterrent for these kinds of plays. Yes. It is somewhat up to luck. But if a player knows the potential outcome, he should be less inclined to take the risk. That's kind of the point. So just a rouging penalty then.

1. Never said it was against the rules. But you said playing the puck. This wasn't 2 guys chasing after a loose puck. This was one guy clobbering another that already had the puck and then scored. 2. You can keep saying it wasn't charging all you want, but that doesn't change the print in the NHL Rule Book. Because it's fun getting CRL into a pissing contest.

So Todd Bertuzzi only deserved a cross checking penalty then? No suspension because injury has nothing to do with it?
-
I didn't lie about quotes. I quoted an article directly that had just been posted. It's not the first time it's been reported that Larkin is one of Steve's core. Is Ryan Johansen a 1C or not? Same PPG as Larkin since he came into the league. Find where I have ever called Larkin that I will concede this debate.
-
It's called the "Red Pill". You should try it.

Yzerman referred to Larkin as a core player the day he was announced as GM. Since then he has named Larkin team captain of the Detroit Red Wings. An honor that Yzerman understands and wouldnt just hand it out to a kid he didn't see as part of his future. Multiple outlets have used the term "untouchable" when it comes to Larkin. Doubt SY ever used that exact term either. But it's no secret that he values Larkin more than many fans do.
-
None of this is reason to remove Larkin as captain.
-
Either SY identified his core or the article is full of s**t. Of course he didn't say it exactly that way, or it would have been in quotation marks. I doubt the writer is just pulling it out of his ass. Most likely, Yzerman made comments eluding to the players mentioned who represent his core. Hes not going to come right out and say this, but he would obviously have players in mind he wants to build around. An astute person can figure out who those players are. You never answered the question. Is a 0.67 PPG center a 1C or not?

It wasn't a play for the puck. Evans already had possession of it. Also, Scheifele never attempted to play the puck. He took the body. Yes. Injury plays a part in it. We've been over this. And if Scheifele stopped skating 35 feet before the hit, was he really hustling to prevent the goal? If it's me, I skate my a** off until I get to the puck. According to you, Scheifele stopped skating toward the play and was reducing speed. Seems counter intuitive for a guy to do that if he's trying to stop a wraparound goal from a great distance away. He made a beeline straight for Evans at full speed. Skating, gliding, doesnt matter. It's still charging if he makes contact. Since when does "vulnerable" have anything to do with kind of hit applied? The term is in reference to the player being hit. Come on. I watched the clip. I was the one who posted it for crying out loud.
-
I agree. Seider will be part of the core. That doesn't remove Larkin from that core. Yzerman has said that Larkin is part of his core (he did not mention Seider). You dont start changing jersey letters just because a better player comes along. It's entirely possible that Larkin could be eventually traded. But it won't be because of Seider. It will be because another team is offering Steve an offer he can't refuse. At that point, a good GM has to do it, even if it's his captain. And that's ok.
-
15 was an arbitrary number. Could be longer. But even if he was done at 33, it would still be 9 years as captain with Seider as his alternate.
-
Since you like the points per game stat so much: Larkin's career Points per Game average is .67 according to NHL.com. He scores 2 points in every 3 games he plays. Think that's not a 1C pace? You know who else has the same PPG Avg (according to NHL.com) as Larkin over the same 6 years Larkin has been in the league? Bo Horvat. Ryan Johansen. But those guys aren't 1C's either, right?
-
Nope. Just since he was a Red Wing. 6 years down. 9 to go. Poor Paul Boyer is gonna get hand cramps from sewing all of those Larkin jerseys.

Rule 42.1 right out of the NHL Rulebook. Charging - A minor or major penalty shall be imposed on a player or goalkeeper who skates or jumps into, or charges an opponent in any manner. Charging shall mean that the actions of a player or goalkeeper who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner. A "charge" may be the result of a check into the boards, into the goal frame or in open ice. He was. I just quoted you the DoPS statement. Perhaps you've had a few too many? And the puck was already in the back of the net when the high hit was made.
-
A fine IS the DoPS doing something. And even if Evans got up immediately and skated away, there still would have been disciplinary action against Scheifele as those are the kinds of hits that the league is now trying to eliminate. Thank the lawyers. And injury is relevant to the punishment. People complain about greater disciplinary action if there's an injury, but that's how the world works. Not just hockey. You are just as responsible for the consequences of your actions as much as you are the act itself. Todd Bertuzzi got a season long suspension for his cross check on Steve Moore based solely on the fact that he ended Moores playing career with that hit. He did not intend for that to happen. But lack of intent did not make what happened a simple 10:00 penalty and game misconduct, which he might have gotten if Moore just skated away. Would have been the same in the real world. Bertuzzi just got busted in Feb for a DUI. Luckily, his actions didn't result in an accident, but wouldn't the punishment have been more severe if he did? What if that accident caused an injury or death? Think he'd get the same punishment as a simple DUI? Of course not. NHL discipline works the same way.
