Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?
Neomaxizoomdweebie replied to Neomaxizoomdweebie's topic in General
Your forward picks are pretty reasonable, but there is no way Seattle ends up with that defense. -
If we cant agree on the basic scientific principle that putting a barrier between an infected person and a non-infected person reduces infections, than there is literally no chance of having a logical discussion here. 5 times out of 6, I'll walk away from a game of Russian Roulette. That doesn't defeat the argument that playing it is stupid. 3 out of the top 6 aint bad.

Is this what happens during summer in Canada?

If Cholowski ever scores 75 points in an NHL season, I'll eat a Little Caesar's pizza.

Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?

As per usual. -
He is right tho. It's supposed to be BOLD predictions. Yours are all likely.

Assuming that the rule isn't changed because of the shortened season: Nielsen only has to play in 10 games this season to meet the 70 games qualifier over the last 2 seasons. Erne only has to play in 14 games. Exactly the reason why I was advocating for NOT buying him out this past summer. Buy him out NEXT summer. Keeping him one more year takes 2 years of his cap penalty and gives SY another eligible forward to expose in the expansion draft.

Forwards are more role specific. If we're talking about scoring lines, then yes, I consider offense a more desirable attribute. If we're talking checking line or a shutdown line, than I consider defense more important. I don't think I need to explain to a Canadian how much more important it is for defenseman to be more defensively aware/responsible than forwards. Lindstrom isn't going to be an offensive defenseman. He was never expected to be. 3rd pair defensive dman is probably where he'll end up. And as long as he's actually good at defense, I'm okay with that. Cholowski was supposed to be an offensive dman. So far, we haven't seen that. To make matters worse, he's not been very good defensively either. If you can't be good at both, at least be good at one or the other. Not mediocre to poor at both, which Cholowski has been. The reason why people prefer Lindstrom is because he's actually proving to be what he was supposed to be. He's actually developing into a dman who's good at at least one side of play. Cholowski hasn't been good at either. I prefer the guy who's good at something to the guy who is good at nothing.

None of this describes as a PP role player. Rasmussen was drafted for the reasons stated: 1. Attacking the net. 2. Play beneath the circles. 3. Net front presence redirecting pucks and putting in rebounds. 4. Ability to use his shot. 5. Ability to score in tight areas. 6. Proficiency on PP. 7. Great use of wingspan. His PP abilities is only one attribute. All of his other abilities are totally beneficial in even strength, offensive zone situations as well. KH would never draft a player that high for the sole purpose of net front presence on the PP. Rasmussen was/is more skilled than that and brings a lot more to his game than that.

1. Gary Bettman announces he's going to have gender reassignment surgery. 2. The Chicago Blackhawks publicly admit that the Marian Hossa LTIR was BS and it was all done to circumvent the cap. 3. CRL and krsmith become best friends.

Wasn't this already done by the league weeks ago?

Because we're discussing DEFENSE-men. Therefore I consider defense a more valuable attribute. If he happens to also be good at offense too, all the better. I realize there are offensive d-men, but they are generally much better on the offensive side than Cholowski has been to make up for their defensive deficiencies. What I don't want is a guy who lacks both the defense and offense to be impactful at either. Western Michigan

I agree with playing Svech and Moose in the lineup over Filppula, Nielsen, and Erne. It's time to bring them up full time. Yes there are special team players, but if you're developing a young D, I want him learning to play in all situations in the AHL, not just on the PP in the NHL. Yes, I am talking about early Mike Green. That's the kind of offense you have to be able to come close to if you're going to be a defensive liability on the blueline. DRW Green doesn't cut it. Waivers were irrelevant. Biega and Daley would have cleared anyway. If Cholowski was better, he would have stayed up. I actually think Lashoff is a very underrated defenseman. If he's on your NHL roster in favor of Cholowski tho, that's scary. I disagree. SY knows that all of Seider, Lindstrom, and Cholowski are in the system. With Hronek, Nemeth, and DK returning, that only leaves 4 D spots. Stecher, Merriill, and Staal take up 3 of those spots. Seider and Lindstrom are both better than Cholowski IMO. That doesn't leave a spot for him. He's been given opportunities the last 2 seasons. He's been demoted halfway into the season both times. He doesn't deserve to stay up a 3rd time just because he's young.
-
Yep. The Cholowski/Chychrun debate is irrelevant when KH got Hronek out of that deal.
-
What do you consider elite? For D-men it's top 5 in the NHL. For forwards, it's top 10. I wouldn't put Pietro in my top 5 or Tarasenko or O'Reilly in my top 10.

I haven't written off Svech. But at this point, I think it's fair to say that he won't be an impactful player. I think 3rd line winger is best case scenario for him. I don't think being a PP presence is enough for any player to justify a full time roster spot. Cholowski is supposed to be a defenseman. I expect him to be good at defense. I realize there are offensive defenseman. But unless Cholowski has the offensive abilities of a Mike Green (he doesn't) it doesn't make up for his inadequate defense. Yzerman had no problem with demoting a long term Wing, in Ericsson, to the AHL. He would have had no problem doing the same with any of the other sub-par D on the roster. The fact that Daley and Biega (both of whom would have cleared waivers) were given opportunities over Cholowski is concerning at best. Cholowski was demoted to the AHL each of the last 2 seasons following poor play. Last season he was sent down with Brian Lashoff and Gustav Lindstrom still on the Wing's roster. He wasn't recalled even after Mike Green, and his blueline offense, was traded away. That's telling. Also, if Cholowski is supposed to be an offensive dman and PP specialist, then SY shouldn't have needed to sign both Stecher and Merrill, and trade for Staal, to replace Green, Daley, and E. Cholowski should have been given Green's roster spot. Stecher would have been an upgrade over Daley, and Staal was a salary dump to replace E. Should have been no reason to sign Merrill. I still have hope for Cholowski. I hope he has a good camp and makes the roster. I just see another Brendan Smith in the making. Poor defense, without the offense to make up for it. I hope I am wrong.
-
Yes. That and the fact that he hasn't played any better than either of those 2 up to this point. I don't really care about his PP presence. We need a defenseman who can actually play the entire position. And so far, he hasn't even been able to take a spot away from the likes of Ericsson, Daley, Biega, etc. And I don't think SY would have signed Stecher and Merrill and traded for Staal if he thought Cholowski was going to have any impact on the roster.
-
Don't encourage this kind if behavior. Correct. And Vegas went to the Cup Finals without any elite talent. It's possible.
-
Weren't Kindl and Smith supposed to be good offensively too? No way SY trades the one top 6 C this team has. Even if you think Larkin is better suited to a 2C role, we'd still be left with absolutely no one to center the top 2 lines.
-
A team with Seider and Hronek in their top 4 D, and a prime Larkin, Mantha, Zadina, and Raymond in their top 6 F, would be a Cup contender. Obviously more parts would be needed to fill out the D and top 6. Parts that the Wings currently lack. But to argue that all of these players arent good enough to fill those roles, and must be pushed down the lineup to ice a Cup calibre team is Lucidi-cris.

That's a name the Canadiens can't refuse.

I disagree. Weiss was a free agent signing that would have been a great fit if he could've stayed healthy. His unfortunate buyout never put the team in cap jeopardy. A mid first round draft pick is worth giving up for a young 2nd pair d-man, which is what Quincey appeared to be developing into after he left Detroit. That trade was sound in principle. The mistake Holland made was having to give up a valuable asset to re-acquire a player he never should have lost in the first place. The Legwand trade accomplished exactly what it was supposed to. Legwand played well, and the Wings would not have made the playoffs without it. The Cole trade, as you pointed out, was just bad luck. Holland made those trades because he was expected to make the playoffs. You can debate the wisdom of that strategy, but I refuse to fault a GM for making moves to appease upper management and ownership. Its his job to follow the direction of his superiors.

AA wasnt even on the same level in PeeWee hockey. Dude is crazy. AA and his agent were drunk on the same kool aid that so many Wings fans were sipping.
