Is a late 1st and 2nd enough for you to justify that much salary/cap hit for the next 3-4 years on players past their primes? Asking for a friend. Entirely possible that Johnson would not even be on the Wings next season if he's left exposed in the expansion draft.
-
Poor management by other teams that Vegas benefitted from. Players they acquired that they should not have been able to. Secondary players who played way above what anyone expected of them.
-
No. I am referring to the Michiganders who wear Avs apparel to games instead of the team they should be cheering for.
-
Better than being the ****** canoe who shows up at a Wings game wearing an Avs jersey. Edit: you can't mention feminine cleansing products in here apparently

Nope. Feel free to repost anything I said. Nowhere did I say I agree with the trade, nor did I at anytime say that Yzerman SHOULD do it. It's not there. The proposal was mentioned. You and others gave perfectly valid reasons why you didn't agree with it. While not as vehemently opposed to it, and choosing to remain more open minded about it, I agreed with that viewpoint. The thing is, if the proposal had any validity to it, there would have to be some rationality as to why SY would even entertain such a trade, let alone pull the trigger. What's wrong with exploring that? What's wrong with trying to understand why Yzerman WOULD do it, even if we don't agree with it? What's wrong with creating a debate at a time when there is very little else to discuss? No one else seemed to be offended by this, I don't understand why you seemed to be. As hard as I tried, I couldn't come up with any compelling reasons to change your opinion, or anyone else's, presumably. It didn't change mine either. That's fine. That doesn't make it wrong to discuss it.

I dont think you understand how a "rigged" lottery works.
-
Um. I said when the compensation was just a first that I wouldn't do it. I haven't come around on anything. My opinion hasn't changed. Perhaps you're not familiar with the concept of analyzing different points of view? Just because I don't agree with something, doesn't mean I shouldn't try to understand and/or rationalize it. Nor does it mean that I shouldn't put out alternate points of view (even if they aren't mine) for the purpose of discussion. So I guess I shouldn't be allowed to post something unless I am in total agreement with it? Posting something for the sake of argument/discussion isnt allowed in here? When did you decide the rules?

Huh? I don't know what ur talking about. Totally not my intent if it came off that way. My previous post, that was passive aggressive. Yes. I might. I know nothing about the prospect. Which I admitted to. If it's a good prospect, then yes. If it's a throw-in, no. So you agree. Depending on the value of the prospect, you would consider it. Exactly what I said.

The issue here is the fact that Johnson and Killorn make 1mil or more per season, and have 1-2 more years on their contracts than what you would expect SY to sign (or re-sign) players for in order to fill out his bottom 6 next off-season. I don't know anything about Alnefelt to know if he's a legit prospect or not. But if he is, and both a 1st and 2nd are coming back as well, that would certainly make it more interesting. Just don't know enough about the guy to know if I would make that deal. The other question would be if you're expecting Seattle to take one or not. Either one seems exactly like the kind of player they would want for a new franchise. Salary would be less of an issue, they won't have any high dollar contracts to pay out for awhile.

Saw these 2 for sale on the ol interwebs. Classic Chinese knockoffs.
-
Who's hijacking the thread? And why do we want to continue the Veleno/Center debate?
-
Yeah. There's so many other things people are talking about in here. Silly me for trying to take a trade rumor and reason on it from a different point of view. I'll try to be more narrow minded from now on.
-
I'm not saying anything. I'm trying to examine the trade from the aspect of: If Yzerman does it, how does this work, how does it benefit the team? I am actually trying to look at it from both sides: reasons for it, reasons against it. I don't just make snap judgments. I actually try to rationalize it before taking a side. Those of you who are against it have made your arguments for why you wouldn't do it. I am simply approaching it from the other side. Looking for reasons why it could work, reasons why SY may want to make such a trade. Would I personally take on both contracts with only a 1st round pick as compensation? No. But there's nothing wrong with trying to understand why, if Yzerman makes such a trade, he might be making it. Again. The Wings are still getting 2 very good forwards. They will need to sign vets to fill the roster after this season anyway. Obviously SY would not sign either of those guys to contracts of that dollar amount or term in free agency. So is the 1st round pick worth the small overpayment and extra year or 2 on the contract? That's really the question here.

I believe Gagner, Helm and Glendening are all UFA's this year and will probably be flipped at the TDL. Nielsen will likely be bought out over the summer. Seattle will have to take a player, and Johnson or Killorn would be the most desirable out of whose available. It's possible only one would still be on the roster after the expansion draft. Subtract Helm, Glendening, Gagner, and Nielsen from the roster and replace with one or both of Johnson and Killorn and it doesn't sound so bad to me. And you get a late first round pick out of it. Edit: Filppula is UFA too. So that's potentially 5 bottom 6 forwards disappearing from this years roster. Even if you bring up guys like Rasmussen, Svech, Timo, and Smith, you still need some vets to fill out the roster. A little pricey, longer term than you'd want, in Johnson and Killorn, but you're still getting the 1st round pick as compensation.

Love the ripped off Oilers logo and the advert for feminine napkins.
-
You could do this. I am questioning your number choice tho. Do you own a van by chance?
-
I dont think you understand how this works. Anyone who played for the Colorado Avalanche from 1996 to ca. 2004 is off limits. No jersey for you. This is the way.
-
I think 3C is more his floor. 2C would be his ceiling. He'll be to 2C what Larkin is as a 1C. Good enough to play the position, but wish you had someone better so you could move them down one line.
-
Thing is, their contracts aren't really that bad for what you're getting tho. Granted the Wings don't need anymore players of that caliber, and would have to make roster space. But there could be pieces moved out that makes this more palatable. Also they may be exposed in the expansion draft, removing one of those contracts.

News From Around the NHL *Mod warning page 75*
Neomaxizoomdweebie replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
Well considering they're removing half of the calendar season and still playing over half a season's worth of games, I would guess that the end of the regular season and TDL would both be a month later than usual. -
IDK. Larkin played wing his first season in a "men's" league, and he turned all right as a center. I don't think Veleno is going to be a big point producer, but a solid 2 way center capable of holding down a 2C spot would be more than good enough for me.
-
Considering they made positive remarks about SY, I think it's Blashill bringing that score down.
-
You would be ex-communicated.

To some degree....yes. Like it or not, luck plays a part in winning and losing, success and failure. Good drafting, ownership, scouting, development, coaching, and managing increases your odds of success. But you're still only playing the odds. The things you can't control can make or break a season just as much as the things you can. That's "luck". Vegas had things fall overwhelmingly in their favor from the start. You can't credit their success based solely on their coaching, drafting, managing, etc. All of which they did very well. They also benefitted from uncontrollable/unpredictable factors working out for them as well. That is "luck".
-
Not really.
