I did read the article. Soviets forced kids to play left handed and built a system designed for an almost exclusively LH roster. Easy to do when you control player development from the time they're kids all the way until they retire. This isnt practical in the NHL. Teams dont control the development of a player until they draft them. And teams are building rosters from a league that is 1/3 RH. As such, it makes sense for a team to establish a system that utilizes both RH and LH players. Therefore, such a strategy will create roles for players based on handedness. That's why handedness matters more in the modern NHL than it did in the Soviet Union, and why comparing the 2 is pointless.
-
You're also talking about a system that these players were coached, trained, and played in for decades. Where the system had complete control of the players from the very beginning. It's much easier to mold a system to fit your needs when there's no player turnover and you're in control of the players their entire careers. NHL teams dont have that luxury. Player turnover requires teams to develop systems based on the fact that there are both RH and LH players moving into and off of their rosters. Those systems create scenarios where being a certain handedness is beneficial. Comparing the development of players in the NHL to the Soviet system is about as apples and oranges as you can get.

Ideally. Yes.
-
You're forgetting Gagner who probably makes the roster over Erne. Also, there's no way Zadina is on the 3rd line.
-
We are now. Yes.
-
Glendening is the most likely of all the free agents to be re-signed. If he, Ryan, and Gagner all leave, there would be 0 RH forwards on the roster. Donald who? Trump? He never once called the pandemic a hoax.
-
Well, duh. Porn is like real life.
-
Put him on that line too.
-
Poor thing.
-
Are you referring to 3ways in general, or hockey trades involving 3 teams?
-
Wouldnt give up that much to sign him personally.
-
Idk. 3 ways are pretty rare. In hockey, that is. I don't. Pretty sure Holland would agree.
-
So we would both take Gagner at just under a mil over Nielsen at whatever god awful salary he's making. Cool. We disagree over who we would choose at the same salary. Whatever. You've hated the Nielsen signing since before the ink was dry, so I'm not surprised. Not interested in being your huckleberry. That's kip's and CRL's job. The problem is, what do you do with Greiss and Bernier if Fleury cant be traded for awhile, maybe even TDL.

I think Blash is fine as an instructional, x's and o's coach. Where I think he's lacking is keeping his players motivated and playing hard. I think he's lost the locker room more than once. 1. No it didn't. Fabbri has been a middle six winger under Yzerman. 2. I could ask you the same question.
-
Is Pietrangelo really worth giving up Fleury, a 1st and a prospect?
-
Yes. Shootouts are the only criteria I use. C'mon. Seriously? Compare the numbers. Over the past 4 seasons, Nielsen has been better in every statistical category I can find except for +/-. If you're asking who the better VALUE is, it's Gagner, hands down. But who's the better PLAYER? It's still Nielsen. "Couple" being the key word here.
-
Yeah, except Fabbri hasn't been a center. He has been a winger. So that response would have been foolish. Your response was that I "wasn't paying attention", even though MY comment didnt go against what Yzerman said. I wasn't trying to "correct you." I was simply stating the obvious: that up until now, Fabbri has been a winger. And although, Yzerman has made comments about trying him at center (which would have made sense as there was no 2C at the time), that doesn't mean that he belongs there, or will remain there for any length of time. Especially now since SY added Namestnikov to potentially fill the role he seemingly wanted to try Fabbri at (2C). Fabbri is better suited to play wing than center. And with the addition of Namestnikov and several centers already on the roster, I think its unlikely Fabbri plays much center at all, regardless of Yzerman "trying" him there. A statement that is ambiguous at best. Sorry if that bothers you.

Roster forwards: Larkin, Mantha, Bert, Zadina, Ryan, Fabbri, Namestnikov, Timo, Svech, Glenny, Nielsen, Helm, Filppula, Gagner (14) Waived/sent down to start the season: Erne, Rasmussen, Hirose, Smith, Veleno Roster Dmen: Hronek, DeKeyser, Stecher, Nemeth, Staal, Lindstrom, Merrill (7) Waived/sent down to start the season: Cholowski, Biega This is how I see it based on current contracts
-
Yes. I said "Fabbri is not a center, he's a middle six winger." So what? That's exactly what he has been. I don't see why that's an argumentative statement. Yzerman's comments about trying him at center confirms as much. Pencilling him in as a 3W is not earth shattering, and is much more likely than playing all but one of Nielsen, Gagner, Filppula, Rasmussen and Glendening at wing.
-
And you're setting the entire seasons worth of lineups on that? Many wingers have been "tried" at center. Especially if they have played the position before. Doesn't mean that that's where he's playing. I'm sure Rasmussen will be "tried" at center too. Doesn't mean that's where he ultimately ends up. Nothing permanent about Fabbri at center, especially now that Namestnikov was signed. Who I also think would be better at center than Fabbri.
-
Disagree. Never wanted Filppula back, so whatever. But Gagner is not better than Nielsen right now. If you're comparing productivity per dollar, yes. Gagner is barely over league minimum and Nielsen is overpaid. But overall? I choose Nielsen over Gagner everytime if its the same money.

I was also referring to clearing up roster space for another forward. If they are considering a buyout, I would rather send him down. I don't think either is happening. Also, dont forget there is still Abby's buyout cap hit too. Why keep adding to it unnecessarily?
