If LA takes Drysdale, OTT takes Byfield, leaving Stutzle at 4. If LA passes on Drysdale, they'll take Stutzle, leaving Byfield at 4. Either scenario works for me.

Solid 2-way player. Can play wing or center. Can be used on a scoring line or checking line. The kind of player you want on your team, but doesn't really move the needle.

Diversity in hockey, or anything else, is a good thing so long as it isn't done for its own sake. Diversity, for the sake of diversity, is counter-productive. Don't do it. The NHL should be made up of the 713 best hockey players in the world, period. Nothing else should matter but ability, talent, and to some extent, character. Beyond that, IDC. The NHL knows it has a diversity issue, and has done a good job reaching out and bringing the sport into new communities. They've invested millions to grow the sport among non-traditional demographics. This can only be a good thing, as it will not only help to grow the fan base, it will grow the player pool as well, resulting in an increase in talent. The end result is more money for the NHL, a greater quality of product for the fans, and more opportunities for kids living in those communities. It's a win-win-win. That said, hockey will always be a sport that lags behind when it comes to diversity and popularity. Equipment is expensive. It can only be played seasonally outdoors in colder climates and indoor ice rinks are often few and far between. And ice time can be expensive. All of this works against growth of the sport. Basketball and soccer are just easier and cheaper to play, and will always be more popular, even when hockey is more readily available.

This coming from the "diversity" guy. I would have no qualms taking Byfield as I think he's the 2nd best player in the draft. My takes: Stutzle: not a full time center at the NHL level. You might very well be getting a Michal Handzus caliber player, but I want better in the top 5. Rossi: talent out the wazoo. Have concerns about his size playing against much larger men. Drysdale: Don't need another RHD and next year may have better options there. Perfetti: serious concerns about his bust potential. Not an NHL center. Skating issues. High hockey IQ, but poor on defense? Defense is more mental than physical. A player with a high hockey IQ should already be good at defense. Just don't think his game translates to the NHL. Think you're getting Tatar at best, or another Pulkinnen at worst. Byfield is actually the one I am least concerned about.

Ooh. Ouch. Considering that my moniker is literally an insult from an 80's movie, I feel totally burned. Dude. Seriously. Lighten up. You're going to rupture an aneurysm.

To be fair, it's kinda hard to seriously take prospect analysis from someone named nyquististhefuture. Just sayin'

The 31st best center in the NHL is still a 1C. And let's be honest here. Does the best defensive F ever win the Selke? It has been given to the best well rounded forward in the NHL for some time. Larkin is good defensively. He clearly had a down year in point production. He really didn't deserve Selke consideration for that reason. It wasn't his D that kept him from nomination. As a homer, even I would not have nominated him. Not because he's awful, but because there were clearly guys more deserving.

I am excited for the kid. Just not to the point where I need lotion.
-
How good a forward is is clearly defined by how he places in Selke voting. Lol.
-
I believe he was a member of the Icelandic powerhouse team that eventually fell to Gordon Bombay's Team USA in the junior Olympics final.

If Byfield is available at 3, Ottawa should take him. Even if Detroit takes Drysdale at 4, they can still take Sanderson at 5, who I have seen ranked just behind Drysdale. IMO, Byfield + Sanderson > Drysdale + any of the forwards left. He will if he needs to get to the cap minimum and he gets assets along with those contracts. More like: CRL if the Wings get lucky and they can draft any player, will that player than be a better prospect than Seider?

1. Because RD is something we already have in abundance. 2. The top of next year's draft is D heavy. It's not "orange man bad" or "rioting is a peaceful form of protest", so it must be fake news.

The Russians are back. And not the good kind.

He's really young like Cholowski. Wouldnt be a good fit to pair the 2. Lindstrom could always be paired with Nemeth or DeKeyser. Edit: I wasn't saying that I would rather see him on the team over Lindstrom, just that I would rather see Cholowski paired with a RH vet; and not paired with Bowey, Biega, or Lindstrom.
