Zadina is the only one on your list that isn't man-made. You first.

As I pointed out recently, Zadina is about middle of the pack in that list of 6th overall picks. I take from that 2 things: 1. Even if he stays there he is certainly not a bust relative to his draft position. 2. If half of 6th overall draft picks turn out to be bottom half of the roster NHLers or worse, Zadina can't be a bust because you can't apply the term "bust" to such a large number. Busts are supposed to be rare. Not half of the players.

Yeah. This team doesn't have any vets on the back end with a winning pedigree to mentor the young D. That's true. Still wouldn't do it tho.

I would be ok with that. There's always a bigger fish. You mean "leave Boston at the end of my career to chase a cup in Colorado" Ray Bourque?

Nope. I literally just said yesterday what my views on Zadina are. That post you quoted wasn't about Zadina. He'll be better than that. If you're interested in the type of guy that fits that post: Sam Gagner. And Zadina is already a better player. And you literally picked out one player's stats to support your argument when there are more that refute it than support it. That's literally the definition of "cherry picking'. So now it's bust or pedestal? Isn't that what you would call a "false dichotomy"?

There's other things that come into play too. If a high pick peaks as a middle six winger, but has a long, solid career in the league, becomes a well rounded player, is a team leader and mentor, good locker room guy, is willing to play wherever/whenever, and practices good sportsmanship...I would say he was not a bust, even if his stats and personal achievements say he was nothing special.

Nyquist, Tatar, and Hudler were all 5-9 to 5-10 and played even smaller IMO. They werent floaters necessarily, but they also weren't really aggressive, go in and get the puck type guys. The were like flies when they did have the puck, buzzing around, trying to weave in and out of traffic. They were also more dependant on others for offense. Zadina doesn't play like that. He isn't much bigger per se, 6-0, but he doesn't seem "small" on the puck. He seems more aggressive to me. He creates more offense for himself than the others did. I think his shot is better, and I think he is a better finisher. I've said before that I would compare Zadina's style of play to a different former Wing: Marion Hossa. Now Hossa was a better player, and I don't think Zadina reaches that level, but I do see him as a lesser Hossa.

  10. No it's not. The question was about secular laws, not religious ones. You can't assume someone's views on government actions based on their religious identification. Secular beliefs and religious beliefs are 2 different things. You can't conclude one by knowing the other. Even if Datsyuk's religious views are consistent with the church's, it doesn't mean he agreed with what the Russian government was doing. His response was deflecting. He's not wrong.

Just out of curiosity, are comparing him to those players in terms of their play, lineup position, or point totals? Hudler never broke 60 points except for the 14-15 season in Calgary. Nyquist only broke 50 points once. Tatar broke 50 points in only 3 of his 9 seasons. I just don't see any similarities. All 3 are different style players than Zadina. All 3 are career 2nd line wingers. I see Zadina as a 2nd line winger as he's developing his game before becoming a top liner in his mid thru late 20's, then falling back into a middle 6 role in his 30's. Also, I think Zadina puts up more points and becomes a better scorer than any of those 3. I think he becomes a 60 to 70 point guy by his mid 20's. None of those other 3 ever did that.

That would make the playoffs 2 weeks longer than they already are making them 10 weeks long. Even if they started first week of June, the Stanley Cup winner wouldn't be determined until mid August. I don't see how this is a viable scenario.

Can his nickname be the "Mannheim Steamroller"?
  15. No Kip. I just choose not to irresponsibly jump to conclusions about what someone's intentions are based on one statement that doesn't clearly state them. It's called "Giving someone the benefit of the doubt." Perhaps you should try it. Not just in regards to what Datsyuk said, but in what others say in here as well. You may think you're omniscient, but ur not. Datsyuk: "I'm an Orthodox." Kip and CRL: "He's clearly homophobic. There's no other way to interpret it." Others: "I could interpret it that way. I could also interpret it as someone who's stuck in the middle who could be harmed publicly in Russia for speaking out. Saying 'I'm an Orthodox' is his way of ending a conversation he doesn't want to have. He may not even agree with it, but he's Russian and Orthodox, so he can't publicly oppose it. Either way, without clarification or a follow up response, I can't fairly make a judgment." But I suppose that would mean not thinking badly of other people. Or looking for the worst in people. I try to look for the good in others. I try to be fair and not jump to conclusions. You should try that. Maybe you wouldn't be so angry all of the time. It's not healthy. Don't worry. Kip gets plenty of exercise. Yeah. We should probably shut this one down, lol.

I understand it was an article. But when someone else said Zadina should have been 5th on the list above Koke and Hayton, you said "No...Try again." The reasonable conclusion I deduce from your response is that you think Koke and Hayton should be above Zadina. You have explained why you think Kotkaniemi is still the better player. I disagree, but you at least addressed it. What I am wondering is why you think Hayton should also be above Zadina in a redraft based on where they are and what they've done 2 years later. Hayton has only played in 20 NHL games so far and only has 4 points. Based on those facts, I just don't see how anyone can make a valid argument that he is a better player. And you haven't made one either. You call myself and others "homers" because we think Zadina has been better than both Kotkaniemi and Hayton, implying that we have a bias for our own draft picks. But at the same time, you argue that both of those players are better than Zadina, despite the stats saying otherwise, especially in the case of Hayton. This gives me the impression that you actually have a personal bias against Zadina yourself. Bias goes both ways my friend.
  19. My point was that you can't automatically determine an individual's personal beliefs based on their identified religion. We all have free will. You can identify as something even tho you don't live by it. Happens all the time. The same way you will find people who don't entirely agree with the platform of the political party they belong to.
  20. So you've never seen a Catholic get divorced? Or a Lutheran live with someone before marriage? Your assumption (an incorrect one) that every follower of a religion agrees with every teaching and lives their life by it is laughable. The Methodist Church is about to split over whether to accept homosexuality or not, which would never happen if everyone just accepted the church's teaching on it and agreed with it.

OMG. I had no idea that Gaborik and Hossa were still under contract. Lol. I wouldnt mind trading Z's contract for a draft pick. I don't think SY would do it tho. I cant see the Captain trading another one away without his blessing. Even then, I dont think he does it. Isn't there some kind of penalty if they trade his contract away too?

https://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/MTL/2019_games.html Canadiens finished 4th in the Atlantic his first season. 9th in the Conference. Last team to be eliminated from the playoffs. 44 wins. This year's Wings were dead last in the league and were on pace to finish with less than half as many wins. So yeah. 2 completely different teams in terms of overall talent and skill. And thinking Zadina is currently better than Kotkaniemi and Hayton doesnt make me a homer. It makes the stats a homer.
