Serious question: If we don't need the cap space, and you don't want to gut GR, then what would be the point of trading away bottom 6 forwards? Assuming Yzerman would have to sweeten the pot by eating salary or throwing in other assets to get teams to take those contracts, how would that benefit the team in any way?

I've never really understood saying that bottom tier players "suck". There is a need for 3rd pair D, 4th liners, and even depth players. If a guy is capable of playing those roles, then why does he "suck"? Expendable, replaceable, unremarkable, all accurate descriptions. But saying that a capable, lower level player sucks, just isn't fair, IMO. Does the guy who cleans the toilets at work suck because he works a menial job? If you made him an accountant, yeah, he'd probably suck at it. But if he's a capable janitor, does he really suck as an employee?

Considering 3 of them were playing in the top six 7 years ago, then yeah, that would be a really good bottom 6. If Yzerman didnt think they were worthy to play in the bottom 6, they wouldnt be there. They're all capable bottom 6 forwards.

Throw in Glenny and that's a pretty good bottom 6 actually. Helm-Filppula-Backes Abby-Nielsen-Glenny No complaints there.

Yes. Picture E actually using his size and being physical, and that's Edmundson. He struggled early in his career in StL, but seems to have found his game in Carolina. He's still relatively young at 26, so there is still the chance that his large size and the learning curve for his position means that he may still improve. Seems like a SY risk to me. Gudas is nothing more than a goon. Would rather bring back Wit. We need more physicality from the D, but Gudas' dbag, cheap shot goonery isnt the way I would go. Edmundson seems less risky IMO. Did u read my post? Krug is 28. Even a 5 year deal still leaves him at a respectable play level at the end of that contract.
