The SOG numbers also show that this team is missing really good scorers. SOG are great, some will inevitably go in, but when ur losing games despite equal or leading in shots, you have a serious lack of finishers. -

Thanks for posting this. Always good to get some insight into coaching/roster decisions. There really is a method to it. I believe they call that a jumbotron. Couldnt agree more. -

You dont know what other offers there were from other teams. I think its likely that the players took less time and/or term to get those NMC/NTC based on what was out there. You're looking at the contract post signing without the benefit of being in on rhe negotiations. We can look at these contracts and say that the clauses were totally unnecessary, that said player could have been signed to the same contract without it, which in all likelihood, isnt true. -

But..but..he's a rightie. So you think he just gives them out without getting anything back? Holland may give out more than other GMs, but I am pretty confident that the player gives something back to get one. -

Why does everyone act like Holland just gives out NTC/NMC like candy on Halloween? It's part of negotiating a contract. He doesn't just give them away. They are asked for by the player usually in exchange for a shorter team deal or a lower salary, which benefits the team. Can we stop acting like Holland is Santa Clause? -
The roles are reversed now. Poile is a very good GM, but trades don't generally go in your favor when you need the other team's asset more than they need yours. Holland would win this trade even working only 3 days a year.

The NHL has formally announced that the 2020 Winter Classic will be held at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, TX between the Stars and Predators. A: These are 2 regional teams that the rest of North America doesn't follow, so why would the league choose them for their biggest showcase game of the year? B: The average game time temperature in January in Dallas is 55F. A little warm for an outdoor game don't you think?

E is used to an 82 game schedule. Cholowski isnt. There are multiple reasons to sit a kid. Rest is one of them. I agree with the premise that the season is lost, so use your games to more to develop the kids. But gassing a young player isnt useful either. You have to be smart about it.

Give me 4 Brad Stuarts on our D corp and I am happy with that. Maybe none of the kids turn into high end top pair guys, but I do believe that all of Hronek, Cholowski, McIsaac, and Lindstrom turn into solid 2nd pair D at least, and I am ok with that.

Umm. I wouldnt. Nielsen is the better point getter at this point. I saw both Zadina and Veleno in training camp. Veleno looked better.

I agree with the idea of bringing back Datsyuk. But I dont think he'd be much of a mentor. First, there's the language barrier, which has always been an obstacle for him and made him rather timid and sheepish. And second, you can't teach 'Datsyuk'. He has a gift. You can't teach that. Don't know that he was ever much of a locker room guy either.

They're a business. They're supposed to make money. They're going to put teams where they think they can make the most money. Thats why there isnt a team in QC, and why there shouldn't be from a purely monetary POV. Can't fault a for-profit corporation for not wanting to take on another liability just to make 'purists' happy.
