I just figure the guy who has shown more offense so far at the pro level deserves to be the higher ranked center. But whatevs.

Imagine: the wings draft Lafreniere (or one of the Swedes) and immediately have one of the brightest groups of top 6 wingers in the league - Lafreniere + Zadina + Mantha + Bertuzzi or the wings take Byfield (or Stutzle) and soon have one of the best group of centers in the league - 1C Byfield + 2C Larkin + 3C Rasmussen + 4C Veleno or They take Drysdale and eventually have a pretty great group of top 4 D This draft is going to do wonders for the franchise. Rock n roll.

Bertuzzi's not a loser at all IMO. In fact I would say he's an over-achiever. Probably the only one this team has.

I understand. But when slappy fanboys are doing their happy Zadina dance it makes you want to go a little in the other direction. I used to do this to KRS with Mantha. I may be out of line assuming this but my bet is that's where you are with Zadina. You maybe like him more than you're letting on. I can have a rational convo about Zadina. I'd rather have QHughes right now personally but I like him. And it's a war of attrition. Hell, people don't even talk about Rasmussen anymore and he was a top 10 pick. Three years ago that's all we talked about. If we pick Lafreniere no one will be scrutinizing Zadina's draft position.

The early returns suggest he'll be better than Tatar. I've said this before when I was defending Rasmussen but in five or six years, if this team is great, I won't care who was picked when. Translation: if Zadina's a top six winger on a contender I'm not going to stress about his draft position. Because why complain?

My point was, sure Yzerman can try real hard (like you've outlined above). But "Yzerman won't allow it" is not a reason for this team not being lotto-land funtime for the next half dozen years. There are things he can't control and, realistically, some holes can only be filled through the draft (and even that's not a guarantee). Yzerman is obviously taking a Hypocratic Oath-type approach. Be patient, don't do anything stupid to make the team worse, and let time work it's magic. Again, none of this screams quick turn around to me.

What's he gonna do? Build us a new Lidstrom in his garage? Yzerman has said approx. 1135 times since becoming GM that we have to be "patient" and that it will "take time". To me, that does not mean "we'll be back in the thick of it in two years". I agree about the draft. 18.5% is distgustballs. Should be 30% and you should be guaranteed a top 3 pick no matter what. Of course, if they were 7th worst I'd be singing a different tune.

Regardless of where we pick, that player will most likely be our new best prospect. And the harvest will continue for a few more years too. It will be disgusting how good we are................ in 7 years.

I think we've corresponded enough to know I wasn't really calling you stupid. If we have 66.6~% chance of being pick 3-4 and a 33.3~% of being 1-2 am I really being pessimistic about our chances? If it was a coin toss, I might be convinced to agree with you.

No. I may have only gotten a C in stats in Uni but 1 in 5 does not seem like great odds to me.

This team is so bad right now that I refuse to hang my hopes and dreams on any one player because it will take several. So I'm not hyping Zadina. He's been pretty good. I think he'll get better. He's part of the solution. Not a bust. Your stance on Zadina is quickly becoming legendary LGWs buffoonery. Like Leftwinger/Franzen obsession-level idiocy.
