As I said in another thread Bert has been cleared to play. Tonight will be the third straight game where he's been able to play but isn't. So yeah, maybe Yzerman is low key BASED after all.

It really is too bad. Yzerman's clearly a culture-building GM though. He puts up with zero 'me before team' guys and has laid waste to players with higher pedigrees than Bert (St Louis, Mantha, Drouin) What's also too bad is that Yzerman's director of amateur scouting basically vouched for this kid after scouting his game a dozen times and doing extensive interviews back in 2013. I mean, I guess a lot can change as a kid becomes a man. But. WHOPSEE!

Because. - Veleno's not yet good enough for top six. Not sure Ryan is anymore either. - In about 3 weeks one of those top six forwards will be hurt (hoping it's not Larkin, thinking it'll be Fabbri) I see a lot of holes in this lineup. Maybe Yzerman is still in full on tank mode. I dunno.....

Fun fact: Bertuzzi was cleared to play Friday. Tonight will be the third game since then that he won't be dressed for.

Very interesting. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Bergavain doesn't match. Never thought about the option for K to sign an extension for less then his eligible qualifying offer. If true, very smart move by him. Less pressure playing under the weight of a fair contract.

I used Savard as a loosey goosey example. I'm aware of the difference. But I made it clear I wasn't thinking about $, just draft capital. In that sense, giving up a 1st and 3rd? Teams of Carolina's pedigree give up those kinds of assets for rentals all the time. So I don't see these picks as being a big deal when it comes to this offer sheet. The fact that Petterson would be fairly paid is also why Van will match. Wake me when any team successfully offer sheets an elite player. It never happens. And teams have tried. Fedorov, Weber, Aho, Vanek (lol). I tell you what tho. Absolutely know one knows how the K offer sheet plays out. This is how you successfully make an offer to a RFA. Pick on cap strapped teams, but go after middle six guys and overpay. It costs you cap space but it costs less in draft capital compensation. Acquiring K makes Carolina better. I legitimately think Waddell wants the kid. All joking and hilarity aside.

I don't care about Carolina's $. And they have the cap space when they LTIR Gardiner. So offer sheeting K is comparable to trading a late first for a rental in draft cost. Of course there's the 3rd to consider. But still.... This is a perfect offer sheet scenario IMO. A Petterson offer sheet would be an Aho calibre waste of everyone's time. Vancouver would find a way to keep him. I can't believe anyone would seriously buy into the idea that this would work.
