The last full NHL season saw 29 wingers score 60 or more. Less than 1 per team. If you want one of these players you have to draft them unless you want to overpay for them in free agency (generalization). And if you draft them, guess what? They'll probably cost you a first round pick. That's the value of a 60pt winger. (Unless you're GMBM. Then you throw another 60pt winger into the deal because you're touched) Also, I personally am not playing charades or whatever. Just observing. Zadina having a good defensive game is important because it make him an all-situation 60 point winger vs a sheltered fringe 3rd line winger like Hudler. This is important. I'd be thrilled if Zadina becomes a reliable 60 pt winger. Would totally justify the pick. Statistically.

He's obviously putting the work in and the skill is obviously there. And he's playing top line minutes against other teams best players and isn't even remotely close to getting caved in. As basically rookie. It's lazy of you to just look at his offensive production and say "muh player is teh bust" . I have no horse in this race and I called his play s*** when it was s***. But I call it like I see it. The kid is playing well.

I don't think people are putting Zadina in the group with "older" guys. They're putting him the "maybe not Yzerman's guy" category. Same could be said about Rasmussen, Hronek, etc.

So do you guys think roster turnover needs to continue (see Larkin, Bertuzzi, Zadina) or do they build around what they have? I know it's not that simple and they could trade Bertuzzi, for example, but keep Larkin. The Mantha trade has some fans wondering about this I guess

Problem is they may end up picking in the 6-10 range this draft. As much as I hate drafting for need (see: Kotkaniemi and Hayton) I agree that Yzerman needs to start drafting the crap out of centers now.
