If true, we only have the play of Heiskanen, Maker, Theodore, and Hughes to thank for a shot at Byfield or Stutzle. Which also begs the question: why aren't we more excited about Drysdale at 4?

My point was that there may be competition from other GMs for the "good" bad contracts. All it takes is for Dorion to accept a 2nd from Van for Eriksson.......

The other problem is that there are other rebuilding teams with as much or more cap space. Not saying it can't be done but IMO it wouldn't be a major failure to not bring in another 1st rounder somehow. Just disappointing. Edit: also (I know this sounds crazy) maybe the Wings are one of those teams that will have an internal cap in the low 70s

In theory. One thing to consider is that I doubt Yzerman will just bring on any old contract, unless he plans on burying them. He won't want any problem players stinking up the dressing room.

I'd add Theodore to that list. Although he's a bit older. Guy's going to win a Norris someday. One of the rare occasions @krsmith17 has been right about a prospect.

Because that's the book on him at the pro level? This team needs lights-out skill in the top six. Especially at center, since Larkin's offence is fine but not holys***dude fine. Veleno does not fit that profile. I'd rather keep Mantha vs Domi because Max isn't skilled enough to play center in my future top six either. BUT I'd trade Mantha and Veleno and take Domi back if it meant we could acquire Romanov

I just don't see him producing enough offence. I think either he or Rasmussen will make terrific 3rd line centers. Which means one of them is expendable. You'd seriously not do Mantha + Veleno and the later of this years 2nd rounders for Domi + Romanov?

Yup. Honestly I could see the appeal here if I'm Montreal. I threw the 2nd in because Mantha - Domi is pretty even but Romanov's generally considered a better prospect than Veleno.

Probably. But he could sign 90s Hasek and still accomplish this. The fact is, he'll need another goalie. Preferably one who doesn't suck.
