I still think Flip. Hudler has been hotter lately with the Lang and Calder line, and he would be a better fit on thw 4th line when Z returns and Bert is placed on the 2nd line. Playing with Franzen and Sammy is a better fit for a passer/sniper/floater than it is for Flip who is more of a corners and split the D and drive the net kind of guy. But, I would MUCH rather sit Sammy. Let Hudler and Flip play with Franzen and that would be a HUGE energy line. But Babs won't sit Sammy because he's a veteran like Lang and Maltby.

And did a damn good job doing it. Not bad against "the best offense in the NHL."

It's not a debate. It's a question. Like, what is offsides? Can a goalie check a player with the puck behind the net? Can the goalie be a shootout selection? If McGoo whistles in the forest, and no one is around to argue, is he still wrong? EDIT: Ok, that last one is more of a debate, but we all know the answer.

Yeah, that's my job *****. I started that "questionable" thread because it was Backstrom and not Hasek or Brodeur at #1. Not that GAA matters anyway, the S% is what catches most people's eyes. In that respect, Hasek is respectable, but not spectacular. His GAA is a product of good team defense, not his goalie prowess. Although Dom is the man, his stats don't say it. I still think he should be a Vezina candidate, but not the winner (Luongo).

I love Ozzie, see signature. Serving of crow, tables 1-312 on LGW.com

It will be Flip. Should be Sammy. Maltby and Cleary will not sit during the play-offs. Maltby will neve rsit any game in a Red Wing uniform.

Wings 2 (Pavel duh, Lidstrom) Stars 1 (Modano) Notes: - Stars goal on 5 on 3 - Pavel breakaway goal with some ridiculous move that ruptures Turco's pancreas

Yes. Pronger sucks. Schneider was the clear favorite a few years ago when he went down in the last half. Missed games don't count.
-
I've never seen it in a game, so shoot me and kiss my grits. I had never seen a player put the puck in front of him on a breakaway and then fall down on top of th epuck and slide into the goalie and the goal, but that apparently counts too. It happened in the Brawl in Hockeytown game and that may have been the most pissed I have ever been during a reg. season game.

TSN Player Rankings Hank has been out for a month and is higher than Dats and a few other hot players. Anyone else see a flaw in this?

Yeah, Pistons go to Finals, Ben put on Cadillac building over Stevie Y. Ben goes to Bulls, Pudge put over Ben. Who's on the Cadillac building now. The players can love each othe rall they want (***) but what matters in this topic is what teamis most popular in the city of Detroit. So... 1. Lions- no matter how bad they suck people will always talk about them. 2. Tigers- if they had won the Series, the city would be painted in stripes right now. 3. Pistons- last championship team The D has and are now perennial contenders. 4. Wings- 3 straight early exits, niche sport in America.
-
Wow, the Preds have Adam Deadmarsh!? Cause if you are talking about Floppa you really are in his ass. Edit: Plus, we already figured out the combo to eliminate Floppa on the ice. It is a small Russian with good passing ability.

Detroit has always been Tiger town. But if the Lions went to the Super Bowl, it would be Lion town. Here is the hierarchy. 1. Lions 2. Tigers 3. Pistons 4. Wings That's how it will always be in a dominately black city like Detroit. No black players on the team = no love from the brothers. And if the Wings win the Cup it will be Honkeytown.. I mean Hockeytown all over again, with the local reporters weraing Wings jerseys and the parades and the governor shoving it in the opposing team's face. But if the Lions or Tigers win their respective championships, all Hell would break loose.

I have to agree with you on your last point. Without Dats there would be two huge ******* holes in our team. A first line playmaker and a powerplay forward QB. No one else would be able to fill those holes in our current lineup if he signs somewhere else, we would be forced to pay through the nose for Briere or someone else more expensive.

Which is why I brought up the +/- and the Selke reference. There really should be a Bobby Orr Award for best offensive defenseman, then we could have a best defensive defenseman, and it would be the Norris because in spirit that is what it is: The Best Defensman, which means good at defending.

"Ron Lowe said, "If diving was an event in the Winter Olympics, Peter Forsburg should take part!" - Mickey quoting a relevent source as Forsburg dives when tapped by Yzerman's stick. (Dec. 17, 1997) "Murphy’s so darn smart! Yes, he doesn’t have the legs that Joe Sacco has, but he’s got the brain that Sacco doesn’t have!" - Mickey comparing the relative strengths of both players after Larry Murphy poked the puck away from Sacco. (Nov. 2, 1997) "Maybe Chase drilled Draper but then you saw the silver of Kocur's badge!" - Mickey recounting Joey Kocur's reaction to liberties taken by Kelly Chase. (May 19, 1998) "Ha, ha, ha, ha! Here comes that jackhammer! BOOM! Ha, ha, ha, ha! Excuse me for laughing!" - Mickey laughing about Joey Kocur's punch on Scott Barnaby which knocked his helmet off. (Mar. 29, 1998) "Look at Kocur! He don't care! That jackhammer works on any kind of cement!" - Mickey admiring Joey Kocur's gumption, as he challenges Krzysztof Oliwa, who rings in at 6'5", 235 pounds. (Dec. 19, 1997)

If only there was a thread to discuss this game. Oh well, we can dream.

Good to see Kopecky is closer. I like the idea of having a more physical guy in reserve come playoffs, as opposed to Booter and Hudler/Flip. Hudler or Flip would be put in first, but in case of a 2nd injury (knock on wood) I prefer Kopecky over Booter.

What are the add-ons of Savard's deal? Maybe he is just looking at number of years and incentives as the strcuture of the deal, not the amount? Cause 5 would have been accepted last month.
-
They are pretty much the same player, except one gets bashed as the Evil Sergei Jr. and one gets praised as Jesus Jr. If Pavel was the only star player on his team, he would have all those points too. But he has to share the puck with guys like Z, Lidstrom, and now Bert.
-
Sounds good to me if he averages a goal a game during the playoffs.
-
I hate to say it, but the OLN guys did a good analysis. If you think about the better overall player, it's Niedermayer. He goes into the corners, forechecks, scores more goals, and mixes it up (Olcyk's pick). Nick plays a better defensive game, has a MUCH better +/- ( like 32 to 8) and always plays against the best lines, plus he plays the PP and the PK. So, if you want a Norris winner, since it is Best Defensive Player, it's Nick; Niedermayer is more suited for the Hart (but won't win, Luongo has that) and if he played forward he would be a lock for the Selke.

I predicted it in the first of the home and home (not self-inflicted, but Erat went down) and was hoping for more good luck. I'm an optimist, and a hurt Trashville player only brightens my day. Sorry for being selfish.
