Wings 4 (Bert, Huds(PP), Lang, Dats) Preds 2 (Princess, Legwand) Notes: - FIGHT!!! Lilja throws down to try and keep his roster spot. - Oz gets a roughing penalty for blocker jacking someone in his crease. - Another self-inflicted Pred injury, hopefully Forsberg or Kariya

Dallas is a more likely 1st round opponent, I thinks Babs wants Dom to have one more look at them before the playoffs, so he can have reference of how they play. Plus, if Oz loses this game, so what? If he wins, it's a HUGE confidence boost and will carry him into the post in case something soes happen to Dom. But count on him starting at least 1 more game after tonight before the playoffs start.

Well, points can be made for all 3 to sit or play. Hudler Not a proven playoff performer, but who is at his age? He does score in streaks and a hot streak going into the playoffs is an absolutely great thing to have. He has the skill to play the PowerPlay and he is not a big a defensive liability as he was in the first half of the season. But Babcock does not favor him. ODDS: 4 to 1 he plays. Flip Has flashes of passing and puck-handling brilliance ala Pavel. Has some size and can play the corners well and make the pass to the front of the net. Babs has a boner for him and hasn't shut up about him since the preseason. Plus, he and Pavel have a GREAT chemistry and that may ensure him a spot in the next few games. ODDS: 3 to 1 he plays. Cleary PK specialist. Never quits. ODDS: 1 to 1 he plays. Sammy Just back from injury, has some kinks to work out. Shoots WAY to much (obvious) and cannot pass for crap. But the wrist shot is deadly and can accept a pass better than most. Plus, now he plays the point on the PP and that may be a reason for Babs to keep him around. But I would prefer he sit. ODDS: 2 to 1 he plays. DARK HORSE Kopecky Can he make it back for the playoffs. He has size, hits anything that moves, and may be the best person to put with Huds and Flip for a deadly energy line with grit and speed. PS- 1000th post.

The Oilers take on the Preds tonight. Here's to an Edmonton victory and a demolishing of Trashville's spirit and roster. GO OIL GO!!! (just for tonight ) Also, just realized that manny4prez did a GDT for this game right after I did. Mods feel free to merge.

Tootoo will not play Thu. I think his first game back from suspensions is this Saturday vs. DALLAS!!!

What do we think about Bertuzzi replacing Holmstrom on the ZDH line?
Wings_Dynasty replied to sean's topic in General
All I am saying is that if the only hot line we have is the DZH line, then Babs better split them up and hope for chemistry from the 2nd line with Pavel or Z between Calder and Bert. -
I just hope that they beat up on each other so bad that they are both in horrible shpae for the post. I would like to win the division just so they don't get a banner. Also, I think the Wings might not win the conference or the Prez even if they win the division.

Not against West Conf. defense like Anaheim and Calgary. They are bigger and stronger than Z and that does count for something. I am always thinking Z and Dats will come out of the corners with the puck, but with Pronger and Phaneuf right next to them I believe their chances diminish. My point is that putting a skill player with grinders is not a totally unacceptable idea in the playoffs as opposed to your view that all the skill players should play on the same line and run the defense ragged. It might not work if the D is bigger and stronger than all the skill players (Z, Dats, Hudler, Flip). It makes it much easier to shut down the scoring if all the goals come from one line. -
I noticed that series of plays too. I was very impressed and a little disappointed that the Ducks were being held in their own zone by one 45 year old American player (I'm American) who never scores and skates as fast as the seasons. But then again. Cheli was probably psyched about the Gathering that is to take place in NYC this summer between him and other immortals to decide who is The One. Because we all know THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!!

Better than what Sammy and Lang have done on the SO. At least his had a chance of going in, not just scratchung the goalies legs and stomach.

What do we think about Bertuzzi replacing Holmstrom on the ZDH line?
Wings_Dynasty replied to sean's topic in General
Edmonton figured out that all they needed to do was stop the passing through the neutral zone and let Pronger and the gaolie block the shots and they won. We need lines that pass and ones that can use muscle to bring the puck in as opposed to dump and chase. A Bert-Dats-Clader line may be the type that if they do dump and chase, they can come up with the puck, as opposed to the DZH line, where only Homer is effective in the corners. -
1. Backstrom 2.12 2. Hasek 2.14 3. Brodeur 2.21

Sorry, although you are partially right, the +/- stat is affected on a man advantage play if the disadvantaged team scores a goal. Therefore, if you let in a shortie you get a minus.
-
I should have explained it better. When a wrist shot is necessary, it is deadly. He has good aim and velocity when he is in CLOSE.
-
I'm with you. I wouldn't be surprised if he was running Pavel and Bert jsut to take them out of the playoffs under orders from Edward G. Robinson (aka Trotz). I just wish that Stars game nextr Saturday was nationally televised. I would love to see Ott or Barnaby pick him apart. Hell, even Lindros can still throw his weight around.

I think it's Oz. I remember someone (Ken Daniels?) saying that he might get the next 2 (after the Columbus game).

I'm right with you. I was yelling so loud at Lemieux when he was getting pummeled. And when the OT goal was scored, I jumped around like a kid (I was one, 12.) That was one of the rare times my parents stayed up and watched a game to completion. That rarely happens outside the playoffs, even today. -
What do we think about Bertuzzi replacing Holmstrom on the ZDH line?
Wings_Dynasty replied to sean's topic in General
There is concern because Bert is a puck handler and will eat up more puck time than Homer. Some of the magic is that Dats and Hank control the puck and take the shots and Homer cleans up the rebounds. With Bert all, 3 will control and shoot and Bert will also take his place in Homer's office in front of the goalie and hopefully pick up some rebounds. We really can't tell what will happen until Z is back. But I think a chemistry between DZB would be more deadly than the DZH we have seen in the past few months, if that is possible. -

This game is definitely the best hockey game I have ever seen, start to finish. I remember screaming at the screen when Mac had Le Turtle down. And laughing hysterically when they showed Forsberg's bloody face after the brawl. The hits, fights, goals, the crowd, and the ending were all perfect. Greatest. Game. Ever. -
It won't even take a fighter or a big hitter to end his career. A cheap shot that results in a real injury will be enough for that no talent waste of space. In Bertuzzi's situation, he at least can score and plays an OFFENSIVE role on the teams he plays for. Also, a coach could end his career. One ended Norton's. All it takes is a SLIGHT drop in his non-production and he is in the minors for the rest of his career. That seems more likely to happen than a complete demolishing from Boogie or Laraque.
-
He'll get crap from all over the globe if he does that. The NHL and the fans of other teams now know that Hudler is a legit scoring threat. The same cannot be said about Sammy. But then again, with Sammy on the point during PPs, Babcock has an excuse to keep him on by calling him "versatile" or some other bulls*** word. My bet is he benches Flip.
