Played in a different era. I consider Lidstrom's accomplishments more impressive in the faster, bigger, stronger, new NHL. What with it's fancy composite, huge goalie pads, medical assistance on the bench, and of course glow-pucks. Similar to how I consider Sawchuk's accomplishments greater than Roy's, what with the tiny pads, no medics, NO MASKS, and harsher schedule.

I've said it tons of times but never on this site. There is no GREATEST HOCKEY PLAYER flat-out. Here's how I rate them. Gretzky- Greatest offensive player Orr- Greatest offensive defenseman Howe- Best all-around offensive player Lidstrom- Best defensive defenseman Bourque- best all-around defenseman Roy- Best positional goalie Sawchuk- Best all-around goalie Hasek- Best unorthodox goalie EDIT: Brodeur- Best reflexive goalie

Stars president 'sick' of Predators' overall attitude
Wings_Dynasty replied to Salviaman's topic in General
I'm not sure. I don't think they knew about it. I wouldn't have known about it unless Mickey had mentioned it during the last game. Not to bash Nashville as a hockey market (ok, just to bash Nashville as a hockey market) but I wouldn't expect them to know about any records being broken in their building unless it was one of their players doing it. -

They should have announced it. It is the fans decision whether or not to applaud, but the Preds are part of the NHL, Modano is part of the NHL, and an announcement was warranted. When, and if, Barry Bonds breaks the HR record, there will be an announcement, even though there is a HUGE amount of controversy. But he is a player in the MLB and the league will celebrate the accomplishment, so says Selig. The NHL should be no different, records broken should be announced, but since he IS American, the NHL will probably not acknowledge it, even if they should. -
Who has been your biggest disappointment
Wings_Dynasty replied to Never_Retire_Steve's topic in General
Lang. I wanted more goals from him. Seems to be floating more lately and a few giveaways have made me curse in the last few games. But other than that, Kronner and Markov haven't been what I expected them to be, but injuries factor into their play. -

There should have been some announcement from the P.A. -
I don't see Dom retiring if they win the Cup. He proved to fans and himself that he still has the juice. If they do go out in the playoffs, I think Dom will ABSOLUTELY play next season, simply because of how good he was this year.
-
May just be his opinion, but he seems pretty confident. I'm for it if the Wings go east. But 16 teams in each conference does open up the playoffs to NCAA style. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/stor...mp;lid=tab4pos2

When he was on D for Bowman, he was the most exciting Dman in the league. You could count omn at least one end-to-end rush per game that was a legitimate scoring chance. That's why I like Lebda, cause he has that power. First Red Wing since Sergei that could go goal to goal and score.

Very nice. Didn't realize the Stevie and Shanny stats were bad as well. But then again, they didn't come from the same country as Fedorov, so there is no reason to hate them , right?
-
I agree also. I also hate it when Z is referred to as a "franchise player" and Pavel is not. The tandem is a franchise tandem. Alone, they are just 2 above average players. Together they are worth more than any one player. Playoffs only matter if you make it that far. Without skill guys in the regular season piling up "meaningless goals and points" you end up watching a TEAM win the Cup in June, not a team with one "franchise" guy and a bunch of 1 million per year players like most people on this board want. Lidstrom, Zetterberg, and 18 other guys.

Then we're the Windsor Wings

According to Buttman, your point is mute, GRAMMAR THAT! Also, I would rather see a Winnepeg team to fill that huge gap between Calgary and Ottawa, but then again if they want ratings in the US, they need a US team with US fans. So a Dakota or Montana team may be the answer as opposed to Vegas. Seattle isn't a bad idea, but they aren't a very well known market when it comes to sports. They try, but don't succeed. I don't know what the NHL ratings are in Canada, but they are hurting here and that's why ESPN dropped it and why we have to put up with OLN.

Fine, it's really really close though. Here's my better argument; Detroit is geographically closer to an eastern conference team that has changed conferences already than Columbus Also, Detroit has been in the league longer and has seniority is choosing if they want to move. Detroit has more rivals in the east than Columbus. Detroit is smarter than Columbus. And I'm pretty sure Detroit's dad can beat up Columbus' dad. If it helps, NWA is in south central Columbus, while JLA is in southEAST Detroit. According to Google Earth, JLA is 2.16 miles West of NWA.
-
Just realized that although Ohio is more east than MI, Detroit is more east than Columbus. Therefore, it would be RIDICULOUS to move Columbus before the Wings. Yeah, but Buttman said that as long as an owner in Atlanta or Florida wants a team and there's an ownder there the team stays.

Martin Havlat? Was Joe Thornton unavailable?
-
This also is not necessarily true. The same team plays in front of both Hasek and Osgood, yet Osgood , on average, faces more shots per game than Dom. The way they will be remembered 100 years from now is goaltending trophies, outstanding play trophies, and Stanley Cups. So let me ask you this: Who is the better goaltender: Patrick Roy, Jacques Plante, or Terry Sawchuk?\ There is no correct answer, only opinions; like the rest of the posts in this thread.

We need a button that highlights sarcasm.

I don't mind not hearing about it. I figure the more I hear about it the worse it is. If he is "hurt" the team won't release info on where the problem is. If he is "injured" then we start getting the dates and "hopefullys" that coaches and staff throw around.
-
On NHL 2k7 , I have Hudler scratched. But that's a game. If I had to pick based on the last 2 games and the injuries (assuming Flip is healthier than I think) I would sit Sammy. But, if Hudler or Flip go cold before the playoffs, my decision may change.

Yeah, and if Hasek weighed 600lbs he's win the Vezina, the Hart, and the Conn Smythe every year. Fruitoo is a punk and the las 2 games have cemented him in my "All-Time Most Hated Players" list somewhere between Lemieux and Foote. And it's not because he kills the Wings offensively (see Forsberg) or defensively (see Pronger) it's because he does nothing well but run at our players from across the rink and drop his gloves and throw punches one night and ******* out when challenged the next.
-
Comparing Bertuzzi's one mistake to Fruitoo's everyday goonery is like comparing apples and assholes. Bert plays hard, physical, scores goals, contributes on the PP and all of this is done by the rules; one HUGE reason why in the 02 playoffs we all hated him. Fruitoo on the other hand takes cheap shot after cheap shot, charges other players whenever he gets the chance and, on top of all of it, has no offensive or defensive upsides. Something Maltby proved he has in THE BIGGEST 2 GAMES OF THE SEASON!!! In conclusion, I will let algebra explain it all. Bertuzzi > Fruitoo < Maltby
-
HELL YEAH!!! You took the text right out of my fingers. I can't wait. No more shoving Pasha with no repercussions, no more cross-rink charges on our D-men. Plus, with Bert mixing it up (hopefully) some of the other Wings will see that it's OK to push back. EDIT: spelling
