The rest of this month shows a unique opportunity for the Wings to take over the lead in the NHL and build a big lead in the Central. We have games against the Blues and the Blackhawks and also these teams: Buffalo - 11th in the East Montreal- 12th in the East Isles- Last in the East Dallas- 9th in the West Phoenix- 11th in the West Calgary- 12th in the West Columbus- Last in the West If we can win 75% of these games (including the two vs Central rivals) we will most likely lead the NHL in points going into February. It is not often that the Wings have an easy February and a good lead gained in January will help the team to remain in contention for favorable play-off positioning (hopefully 1st in the West) and will also attract more attention for good trades.

I don't understand this sentence. Please explain it to me.

Just ran across this, not sure if it has been posted up here yet but I thought it was both funny and dumb.

I love when that happens. The ref always yells and gives them plenty of time. What are you doing in a huddle right before a face-off anyway?

I like hip checks. Failed or otherwise.

1/8 GDT : Red Wings 3 at Blackhawks 2 (OT)
Wings_Dynasty replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
If we win we're 2nd in the WC and first in the Central. Let's do it. Wings 3 (Homer, Dats, Cleary) Hawks 1 (who cares) -
Howard played like s*** last night. 2 weak goals. That is all.

***I have been around this website long enough to know that if we start throwing current Wings around that this thread will fall into chaos. So limit replies to players not currently on the Wings.*** So I have been watching highlight videos on YouTube the last few days (especially awoods') and I have noticed that a lot of key players from the Wings' most dominant past (95-99) are still around. I was wondering who do you think is playing in the NHL now that maybe should have stopped a while ago before their career went from "legendary" to "ordinary." My top choice is Martin Brodeur. I think he should have stopped playing the day after he broke the wins record. The Devils haven't been a real contender in a while and I think now that the organization needs to grow beyond his legend. Anyone else come to mind?

Well, I as God have the power to choose who retires and who doesn't... oh wait, I'm not God, this is the Internet and this is all about opinion.

How about that guy in your avatar, Nyquist, and a first rounder. That's what I think would have to happen (or an equivalent) to get a guy like Getzlaf or Perry from the Ducks.

12/31 GDT : Blues 0 at Detroit Red Wings 3
Wings_Dynasty replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
After last night's debacle this game better contain a better effort from the Wings. Will be a close one as the Blues are no joke and have turned into a legitimate contender for the central title and have one of the best goalies in the league this season. Wings 2 (Miller, Flip) Blues 1 (Shattenkirk) -
I think Commie will stand out against physical teams like Dallas, STL, Nashville, and maybe even against a balanced team like CHI; but the offensive minded teams (VAN, SJ, COL) should be met with offensive players (Kindl).

He is the closest thing we have to an enforcer. A defensive defenseman who is at least mostly responsible in his own zone and can and will drop the gloves and can fight well is a luxury that the Wings have seldom had this millennium.
-
Minnesota has historically been good defensively and most of that has been with great goaltending tandems. This year they have a few more offensive weapons available and it shows with their record. Both of those things combined with consistent play at home and on the road will lead to points. The main test will come after the AS game and trade deadline during the final stretch to the playoffs when everyone has settled their lineups. If they can continue with their consistency then they can make the playoffs. After that, like every other team, it will be up to goaltending and depth in the lineup.

Ryan based on age alone.

Helm. That is all.

Wings reassign Brendan Smith to Grand Rapids, recall Brunnstrom
Wings_Dynasty replied to Aussie_Wing's topic in General
Why does everyone want to waive Commodore? I don't get it. Seems like we need some physicality since we are being pushed around in every game and Smith is not the person to provide that. Commodore may be. Commodore hasn't played enough to warrant this kind of attitude. Smith has had a shot to impress, and he hasn't. He'll get more shots but right now Commodore is healthy and should be given a chance to contribute. The same goes for Mursak. -
HA! That one was pretty good. And no. How many games has he played? A. He hasn't had a chance to prove his worth to the team B. He hasn't had a chance to f*ck up

1. Red Wings 2-5. Details

I wasn't trying to kill him officer. I was just shooting my gun through the fence. I didn't see him there. What if the slashed player lost an eye. Would 2 games be too much still? If it had been an accident, sure, 4 min would be enough. But he was INTENTIONALLY slashing him. Regardless of where the stick ended up, he was WRECKLESS and it needed to be addressed. A fine would have also sufficed instead of games IMO.

Finally. Wings 3 (Helm, Datysuk, Franzen) Sens 1 (who cares)

The Official NHL Suspension Thread
Wings_Dynasty replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
I love that detailed videos are added with each one so far. Seems like the NHL is now ahead of all the other leagues when it comes to fans understanding the whys of a suspension. -
