Need to get the PP going. Nyquist on the 2nd unit is a start, Mule would be nice as a screen/slot shot. Like to see Sheahan get some more minutes as a screen. I think Howard is going to need a great game to pull a win. Unless the Pens just forget to cover Datsyuk thinking he isn't a threat or something crazy like that happens we can't expect a lot of offense against a healthy Pens team. -
Toronto Radio: Illitch is selling everything and Babs will be Leafs GM
Wings_Dynasty posted a topic in General
Huge RUMOR headline, but making legitimate press. http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2014/10/17/rumor-ilitch-looking-to-sell-tigers-red-wings-little-caesers/ http://kuklaskorner.com/hockey/comments/report-are-the-detroit-red-wings-up-for-sale Link with audio http://kuklaskorner.com/tmr/comments/audio-from-bob-mccowns-discussions-of-the-red-wings-possibly-being-for-sale Personally think it's BS, but who knows. I would think that working for decades to build a new arena for your team/city only to sell it all off would be a crazy move. -
They should do an auction for every piece of everything in there. I would buy a chair and a urinal trough.

TSN Radio interview regarding enforcer effectiveness in 2014. Discussion started with (of course) Crosby's treatment last season against the BJs. They also talk a little about Babs' contract talks. http://www.tsn.ca/radio/mckenzie-seeing-the-abuse-crosby-took-in-the-playoffs-teams-may-need-enforcers-1.94641

Gonna throw my gas on this bonfire. There have been a few members promoted to Mod in the last few years that surprised me. Surprised me to the point to where I PM'd Matt and asked how much money I had to send him to be a Mod because __________ obviously paid him to be one. This was following a tussle I had with said mod following a post/topic I posted and was promptly removed (probably about my wanting to trade Babcock following a playoff exit). I believe the mod told me to keep it in the GDT and following my explanation that the season was over and this was a valid thread, they essentially told me to F off because I was just bitching. Now, when someone starts a thread with a coach/player's name in the title that will obviously be a critique of his play/leadership, Mods and members both know that there will be some mud slinging. If you don't then welcome to the internet. There very well may be some off topic posts, attacks, and trolling. Just delete it. Or better yet, cross out all the text and add a response as to why it was crossed out and give a warning. Flame-bating doesn't belong. But when the Mods close a legit thread, or remove a post that was meant as a poke at the Mods treating the thread like a Third Reich library, then something is wrong.

I voted undecided because I think goals should be reviewable in certain situations. Only certain penalties should be reviewable, and what happened against ANA isn't one of them. Delay of game (puck over glass or trapezoid infraction). Too many men Goaltender interference (and it would still be ref discretion) Diving (only to reverse it from tripping and only penalize the diver, eg Thornton going down like he was shot by Franzen) That's it. Penalties like spearing, high-sticking, hooking, tripping and all of those would not be reviewable unless it's for a penalty shot. Also, a failed review would cost the timeout. A successful would obviously either result in a goal/no goal or the penalty being upheld or called. If the timeout has already been used, 2 min delay of game. Another failed review would result in a 4 min delay of game (2+2 like a blood penalty), another would be a 5 min DOG and a coach ejection, then assistant coach and so on and so on.

Babcock quote about Jurco... Possible shot at Holland?
Wings_Dynasty replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
It could be a shot. It also could be a "Yes" answer if he has the sole power to pick the team (which is unknown to fans but may be known to media). Does he have complete control of the roster? Does he have to have his choices approved by the GM? I guess that if you know the answers to those two questions then you know the answer to his answer. -

Wings sign Defenseman Joe Hicketts to Entry Level Contract.

Malik says he is like a cannonball, he's fast, getting bigger, and people just bounce off of him when he carries the puck. Sounds good, and if he doesn't pan out he's depth in GR. -

Predictions: Wings only lose 4 players to injury. I guess Weiss, Q, Gus, and DeK. -
Did the Wings change the font on their jerseys?

What I can't figure out is why they haven't put ads on the jerseys yet. Those Euro league teams look awesome!!! -
Injured Datsyuk 2nd degree separated shoulder injury - out approx 4 weeks

Were any Pens injured? Why aren't our guys doling out injuries too? Oh yeah, small and non-physical. Even the prospects. -

We can do this all day, but I'll play along. The Jackets are on the way up. They are not a great team. They are a good team. They have been as close to a Cup in their history as the Leafs have been and closer than the Wings got last year. I don't care if they can't fill the arena. The Wings barely do. And they aren't as sought after by FAs as say PIT or BOS, but as much so as DET. Tampa has a recent Cup. Glad we can agree. The Wings got wrecked with most of their roster. The Yzerman Regime is still young and Stamkos wasn't healthy last season. Anaheim has 3 Finals appearances since 2001 (same as the Wings). They have a great arena regardless of the number of fans in it, but like the Wings, it gets filled depending on the time of the season and the opponent. Let's not bring up other teams choking in the playoffs on this board.

OK, keep in mind that I think that the Red Wings are a great organization from the top down. Please keep that in mind while you read the next part of this. The BJs are on the way up. They are a destination for FAs, they have picked up some good players via trade, and have a GREAT goalie. They are also in a good city with a good sports university. They're management is good and they are MILES ahead of where they were in their early history. They are now as good as the Red Wings in the East. Tampa has great management. A recent Cup. And the premiere goal scorer in the league. Tickets are cheap and the town is great. They don't have the history of the Wings or Leafs, but they have a recent Cup and that's more than the Leafs have. And they have the one man that all of Red Wings nation would want back. Anaheim is a yearly contender for the Cup. They are a fun team to watch (old-school) and have a great core of players. They have consistent goaltending, good trades, and FAs like to go there to get a shot. They also have loyalty (Selanne). Lots of these things are what the Wings have or are lacking, so why can't they be called better? They also have a recent Cup. So, better than the Leafs. The Leafs are a storied franchise. If we were to look at the entire history of all the teams in the NHL, they would be near the top. But I think this list is going by present and recent past as a rating. And the Leafs belong at or near the bottom, and the Wings have competition.

I wouldn't say they are dead wrong. TO is definitely one of the top 10 worst franchises in NA. When you take into account fan base size, expectations, management, and droughts between championships the Leafs are definitely tops in the NHL. Only the Cubs in the MLB, the Knicks in the NBA, and the Vikings/Lions/Jets in the NFL catch my attention as teams that are in major markets and consistently have stunk for the longest time. There are teams that have zero championships but most of the time they are new/expansions or are in minor markets. And of those teams you can say a few of them have at least made it to a championship game/series in the last 10-15 years. But the Leafs... yeesh.

I think Jurco should be assumed to be on the team after this. Cleary gets the chance to take a roster spot (much like Sammy last season) and we need only wait for an injury during camp or the preseason to put him out for months and by the time he is healed up Jurco/Mantha would be a regular and untouchable (like Nyquist and Tatar last season). I think Alfie is done. I think Cleary is done. THE FUTURE IS NOW!!!

Who is YOUR most under-appreciated/unsung Red Wing?
Wings_Dynasty replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
Holmstrom is the obvious choice. Another one is Rafalski. He also added a dimension to the formerly-great PP. Also, my pick, Kirk Maltby. He was a GREAT PK-er, grinder, and the best pest the Wings ever had.
