I think the Pacific. The Yotes were the traditional weak link in the past, not so much now. When the Ducks are at the bottom and they still have Selanne, Giggy, Hiller, and Needavacation the division is strong.

A. It's Malkin. B. Yes, it is priceless.

There are Canadians on every NHL team. There are Swedes on most NHL teams. I am aware of a country's natural bias. I'm sure that in Sweden everyone thinks that a Swede is the best player in the world, as I'm sure it is the same in Russia and pretty much everywhere else. Canada has selected Crosby as the best player in the world. They can if they want, I am sure that they believe that he is the best player. Just as I am sure that a lot of Red Wing fans are homers in thinking that a Red Wing is the best player in the NHL. I just was saying that the Canadians are much more interested in their teams because they think that their teams are better BECAUSE they are Canadian. The Habs and the Leafs are the greatest teams of all time because Canadians say so. Bring up that neither have enjoyed recent successes and you are shouted down by the number of Cups and the goals and points and the Original Six and made for TV movies and the legends and yada yada yada...

From Wikipedia, forgive the alignment. This is the all-time count of medals won in ice hockey at the Olympics, including both the men's and women's tournaments. Rank Nation Gold Silver Bronze Total 1 Canada (CAN) 9 5 2 16 2 Soviet Union (URS) 7 1 1 9 3 United States (USA) 3 8 2 13 4 Sweden (SWE) 2 3 5 10 Now for cricket, who does have the best criket team most of the time? I don't know, but I'm willing to bet that they were once under British rule. (India or Australia would be my guesses). As for the Canadian inventing basketball, so what? It flourished in America and so it became an "American" sport. I don't think that Canada is the odds on favorite, Canadians do. I think that the Russians will end up with the gold, Canada silver, and Sweden bronze over Finland, USA 5th. It is the unusual amount of "homerism" that I find amusing with Canadians regarding their Olympic teams and their NHL teams as well. Example, the Wings-Sharks game highlights on TSN.ca were 45 seconds long, the Nucks-Flames were 2 minutes 45 seconds long. Now I know that the Canadian game had a few fights and a sniper during the game but I'm pretty sure that unless the Wings are playing another Canadian team I will have to rely on Yahoo! for real highlights of Wings games, but the Leafs-Anybody game will have ample highlights of missed passes and wristshot saves from the point. More examples, every game with a Canadian team had highlights over 2 minutes, every other game under 2 minutes and a couple under one minute. That includes the Caps game where 9 goals were scored. I'm tired of typing. Just argue again and I'll respond when I'm ready.

6 for 17 so far... as bad a 2 day score as I can remember.

Canada is the dominant country in regards to hockey. You invented the sport, your players are the historic names of the sport, your country goes the most Olympic hockey crazy. Plus, YOU ARE HOSTING, so the idea that you could win gold on your home soil has 99% of Canadian males fully erect. And I am an American stationed in Germany, if I was a fan of German hockey I would have killed myself long ago. It is accurate. As I mentioned above, Canada is the world hockey capital. The US is the world basketball and baseball capital. However, Canada doesn't always win the gold in hockey, and the US doesn't always win the gold in basketball and baseball. Argentina and some European countries are good at basketball and have the ability to win gold. And Puerto Rico, Japan, Mexico, Cuba, Columbia, and even Canada can beat the USA in baseball. But the truth is that some countries will always be favorites, especially the countries that invented the sport and where it is most popular in culture. You know why Norway is so good at skiing? Because kids in Norway start skiing pretty much the day they start walking. It's the same with hockey in Canada and baseball in America. It's part of who we are. And when the country with the most deeply rooted tradition of the sport loses it is ironic. And when Canada loses in hockey it is entertaining because of the ensuing butt-hurtedness and excuses that follow. And I like seeing Crosby cry. End rant.

I agree 100% with this. It's just great to see Canadian's lose at their own sport because they are so sure of their superiority. It's probably what the world feels when the USA loses at basketball or baseball. But with Canadians it's much sweeter, since they are so overconfident and spewing statistics about how they are sure to win before a team like Sweden, Russia, or Czech beats them. They also have hugely entertaining excuses for weeks EDIT: years regarding the loss, and Don Cherry will hopefully lead the way... again.

It will be Tavares. Just like clockwork the NHL will promote the biggest name they can.

Lebda! :crosses fingers:
-
I find this hard to believe. A. Lebda shouldn't have the puck at practice. B. His shot invariably would not be heading towards Homer as Homer stands in front of the goal. C. His shot, if on goal, would be at either logo or shin pad level. D. His shot is not hard enough to break the plane of the goal line, let alone a foot bone.
-
He is. You didn't mention the part with him running underneath the ice with a puck-magnet so he must be doing something right.

Janik > Lebda or Meech. But I would still like to get more looks at guys in GR like Kindl.

Doesn't add up to me. How can the MVP of all the players of the league be a goalie and not the best goalie?
-
Homer-Dats-Bert Franzen-Z-Cleary We're fine. Just need to score more than we allow. The allowing part is what worries me most. And it's not Jimmy, it's the men in front of him on the blueline that Babs decides to play. I have made peace that Lilja is not coming back. I just worry that he will play certain players (Lebda, Meech) during slumps instead of going fishing for a 09 Ericsson type player for the post-season. "Well, they have experience" will likely be the excuse for keeping a Lebda or Meech on the roster instead of trying a Griffin with Ericsson for the 3rd pair.

I'll guess Forsberg aaaaannnndddd..... SAMUELSSON!!!

2 for 2 then 8 for 12. Not bad so far. Finished with 12. Eh..

Devereaux was never gushed over as a potential 2nd line player. He played with Hull and did OK in the role of forechecker for the Hull-Datsyuk line. Ville, however, hasn't had a full season to get used to the tempo of the game and really hasn't had the opportunity to be a secondary scorer. With all the injuries, we are looking at the healthy players that are not scoring a little too hard.

No Lebda = No Gold Medal

What Five Current NHL Players Do You Like the Most?
Wings_Dynasty replied to Shady Ultima's topic in General
1. Ovechkin 2. Modano 3. Nash 4. Kovalchuk 5. Chara -
All I want is a win. I don't care if we win 1-0 and the Avs get 4 goals called back and our goal is a self-goal from an Avs D-man. Just win.

That's why the Cleary hit is in my YouTube favorites.

Yeah, I knew I forgot someone. I also didn't go into MLS or women's sports.

Technically, he is supposed to try and touch the puck to get the icing. If he cannot touch the puck before Kopitar, then he has to wait for Kopitar to touch it then hit him/get the puck away. If he hits him before contact, it's interference/boarding. Play the puck boys.

HA!!!
