I think Helm's speed would be wasted at center. He is the most dangerous on the wing IMO. I think Abracadabra isn't quite ready yet, in fact, Leino may not be ready, but I think he is closer than Abby. I think we need a vet to hold that spot and mentor Leino/Abby this season, like Hull did with Pavel and Z.

I will be wearing my Old English D replica sweater (not the 09 version, the original) and will be glued to the TV. I think the score will be either really low because of bad ice or really high because of some players being able to play VERY well on bad ice. But the former seems more likely. Ok, first game I get to see since I've got back from Basic Training. I'm feeling a win, 4-2.

Ok, so we have a pretty good idea of the 12 forwards the Wings intend to start the season with, but we do not know the defensive pairings. So, give what your ideal pairings are. Keep in mind that Babs likes Lilja and he probably won't be traded (if it were me it would be Lebda going bye-bye, but that is another thread). Make up 3 pairings and 1 player you would keep up as a 7th man. Mine: Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Lilja-Ericsson Quincey Chelios is a waste of a spot with Ericsson just sitting there (6'5", 200+, can fight and hits with a 100 mph slapper... no contest). Meech is a capable defenseman but is pretty much another Rafalski (smallish and only good for passing and carrying the puck to the red line). Quincey is the 7th because he is a good sized kid who plays bigger than he is, plus he can fight if he has to.

I think he will get the same amount as Datsyuk. Seems fair since they are equal in most areas.

Well, at least he got his Cup in Anaheim...oh wait...

I think that losing a forward that you have built since you drafted him is hard for an organization to do, especially when it's the Wings and he just smashed a bunch of Howe records. If it came down to it, I think a defenseman with a big contract could be moved to make space (Rafalski). As great as he is, we have a BUNCH of defensemen in the system and we may be able to get a good defenseman back in the deal. But, you have to think that when Nick retires we may need to have Rafalski if no one else has stepped up to be the obvious #1.
