Russian League poised to offer Malkin $12.5 mill/yr
Wings_Dynasty replied to sixer's topic in General
That all depends. Everyone from European and Asian countries all want to come to the NHL to play hockey because the best players are there and North America is the most prosperous place on the planet. IF the RHL was the premiere league (with world media coverage, the best players (most of whom are in the NHL today), and the best hockey being played) that is where I would want to be as a hockey player. As an American, of course I would want to be in America, but if my dream was to be one of the best players in the world I would want to be in the best league, wherever it was. As for the "he speaks Russian" argument. If he can't learn English than he is lazy. Pavel learned English, the Russian 5 spoke English (except for Kozzy) and all of the other Euros learned English (Lidstrom speaks it better than I do). I could learn Russian, all I would need is the Rosetta Stone program and maybe a tutor to learn specific words, but I think my teammates would help a lot. But the question is does he want to be a hockey player (and go to the top tiers of his profession) or does he want to be rich in his homeland? It all depends on his personality and where he wants his life to go. -
Russian League poised to offer Malkin $12.5 mill/yr

If you'd rather be rich than in teh best league in the world, then go. -
Yes, Lidstrom at 14 and Crosby at 26 is very accurate.

Everything with the rules makes sense. Nothing will hurt the flow of the game, just makes things safer and more interesting. I always thought that faceoffs after a penalty should be done in the penalized teams zone after the call.

Holland Tells Quincey to Work on His Fighting
Wings_Dynasty replied to uk_redwing's topic in General
Babcock loves Ericsson, and "can't believe we don't dress him." I really think that he is the number 1 alternate D-man that didn't play in the post-season. -
If he could prove that he can play without an attitude he could make a good backup... in Grand Rapids.
-
Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Lidstrom are all in the top 10, IMO. And they have the trophies to prove it. Selke, Byng, Conn Smythe, Norris, President's, Campbell, and the Cup.
-
Add 15 lbs of muscle to Ericsson and he will be a monster.

Right now, the top 5 stories on NHL.com involve the Wing in some way!!!!

#5 GETS #6 BABY!!! And I'm 5 for 6..

4 for 5. I picked Babs to win. Norris is next.

I liked Stewie, he played well when he was healthy. I think that the broken finger hindered him throughout the post, he wasn't on the point on the 2nd PP unit that often. I think a 100% healthy Stuart would be worth $3 million a year, but 4 is pushing it in the cap era on a Cup winning team. In LA $5 mil would fly though.

I agree. Wash has been getting better, and OV is really keeping the place alive. Atlanta, Carolina, and Florida. 2 of those 3.
-
Obvious, but it is in California on the Tonight Show and the Carson Daly show today.

All I care about is that NBC acknowledged that the NHL is a sport on their biggest stage. Ozzie and Lids are the faces of the team and they played along like they should. I don't care about how tacky it was, just that I got to see them is good enough for me.

ESPN takes shots at Detroit sports teams
Wings_Dynasty replied to hillbillywingsfan's topic in General
This is more "Water Cooler" chat, but one Chevy plant in Detroit or Ohio will be producing the Volt eventually. -
I consider "rental" anyone wanting to play for one season or less. And 5-6 is still too much to give for a player of his age. 3 is where I would be interested.

Higher All Time Ranking: Yzerman or Lidstrom?
Wings_Dynasty replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
They are 2 different players. 2 different positions. IMO, Yzerman is the best leader in the NHL. Lids leads by example, and he is the PERFECT player. So, Yzerman on offence is an A- overall throughout his career, Lids is an A+ throughout his. In a clutch situation, I would want them both on the ice. -
Question: Will the Wings sign a big name free agent?
Wings_Dynasty replied to hckypete96's topic in General
No big names, unless Stuart leaves then I think Kenny goes after a soild, physical top 4 blueliner. Especially if Lebda or Lilja are dropped/traded to give more money to Mule or Z. I see Cheli seeing limited minutes next season in either scenario. Ericsson, Quincey, and Meech have all done their time in GR and one of them (probably Ericsson) will be on the 3rd pairing with Lebda/Lilja/Chelios. The way Babs talks about Big E tells me that he will be on the roster next season. He is a big body, has a hard shot, and can man the point on the 2nd PP unit. -
My issue is $7,000,000 for an aged rental. That is what is estimated to be his asking price. That is too much. Anything over $3 million is too much for him. He's good, but what we already have is better. If he really wants a Cup he should pay for it, not the Wings.
-
Sucks about McLellan. I think Cheli should hang 'em up, we have a bit of an overflow on D and he isn't helping the situation. I would be happy to have The Drake back, but I would understand if he retired, it would be a good note to go out on. Mac is always welcome as long as he can skate, but I think that Downey would be a better "enforcer" than Mac.
-
We should retire Drew Sharp's opinion on anything dealing with the Red Wings.
-
I think that it is by percentage of the population, not the number of people but the percentage of TV viewers in the area that are watching the game.

The game is to predict the roster at the All-Star break of 2009. I say the AS break because we will be past the point of "testing" players and Kopecky will be back from injury. Here's my guess: Dats-Z-Homer Franz-Flip-Hudler Cleary-Draper-Kopecky Leino-Helm-Maltby Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronner-Stuart Ericsson-Chelios Osgood Howard
