I've worn my on final exam days. Gets the mojo working.
-
If Dom is anything like he was in 98 & 02, here is what should happen: Wings 4 (Dats, Rex, Stein, Lids) Preds 0 Play like you can't lose and you won't lose. Hit, forecheck, backcheck, get in Ellis' face, and shoot the puck.
-
Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot that you are the final word on playing time for future NHL players. How did he do at your fantasy training camp you invited him to? Did he do as well as all of the other qualified NHL scouts said he did in Sweden? Do you agree with some others assessment as he being the possible second coming of Crosby? Personally, I think we should gamble with some prospects. If a player has certain qualities (as he does, seeing that the Wings are pushing hard for him) then a risk may be worth the possible reward. But to flat out say "No, I don't think so. He hasn't played with the organization and I would rather have a sub-par prospect that has spent time in the minors for a few years play than a hot shot up and comer with no ties to the Wings" is ignorant.
-
Well, blame who you want I'll give you options. "Lilja should never wear the Winged Wheel again. He f*cked us in the conference finals last year and he's f*cking us again!" "Hasek is old and he sucks. 2 goals in 11 seconds is one thing, but 2 goals in 9 seconds... Someone get him a kimono and a sword!" "Seriously, why is Babcock here? You don't break up the best line in hockey in the most important game of the year!" "WTF is wrong with Hudler? Why is he on the team? SHOOT THE PUCK!!!" Who gets the noose for tonight's loss? I wish I could Tivo time to the next game and avoid all of the finger pointing and internet GM talk here, but I think I'll just get hammered and watch the board eat the team whole.
-
Uh oh, looks like a classic "Rudy" situation. Gets guaranteed playing time from the GM, then the GM is fired. Where does that leave the promise??? Jump on it Holland, say he will get 4th line minutes all season and give him a shot.

I know we are on a roll with the roster we got, and I would be fine with it if the lines are the same in Game 3. But I have a small suggestion for a 4th line next game: Mac-Drake-Downey Hartigan hasn't been good and he hasn't been bad. I want to see Downey in simply because the Preds will be running around a lot more in their own building, as much as they need to score goals to win the series, they will hit more in front of their fans. Drake, Mac, Franz, Kronner, and Stuart have done great so far in the physical department. But on ice where the Preds will have more of an advantage with line changes I think we should have as many crash and bangers in the lineup as possible. Tootoo is much more dangerous a hitter at home, and Hordichuk is the same. Having more than 1 legit fighter on the ice will probably keep the charging down and the Wings stars more comfortable. But at the same time, I realize that Hartigan is more of a scoring threat than Downey. So I can understand if he doesn't play, but to take Mac out in exchange for Downey would be a mistake, he is getting better and better and does provide an edge. Downey with Drake and Mac may be a force to be reckoned with in the hitting department. Thoughts or other suggestions?

16-0 means zero pissed off nights where I get drunk and cry myself to sleep.

One has Cups, the other doesn't. I would say that only one is a successful play-off coach.

I have no problem with it. I like creative play within the rules of a game. I remember one time Tiger Woods' ball was behind a small boulder and he couldn't swing and put the ball where he wanted it. Legally he nor his caddy could move the boulder, so he asked a few fans to move it so he could swing. No rules were broken, but they were changed the next season. And that will probably be the case here, players will not be able to screen the goalie and not be watching the puck.

WQF Game 3 (4/14) GDT: Predators 5, Red Wings 3
Wings_Dynasty replied to aflac9262's topic in General
Wings have their mojo working against a weak Preds team. Keep Tootoo from running around and it's an easy, uneventful win. Wings 4 (Stein, Raffy, Z, Cleary) Preds 1 (who cares) -
Nashville comes out harder, but all for not because the Wings brought their legs with them this game. Wings 5 (Dats, Z, Stein, Flip, Kronner) Preds 2 (who cares) GO WINGS GO!!! GO WINGS GO!!! GO WINGS GO!!!

Yeah, they are the Montreal Canadiens of the MLB. EDIT: Yanks have 26 championships.

Guy's a moron, what can you do?

Last night was my first playoff game and it was a blast. The pregame show was great (no too long and got the crowd loud) and the crowd was treated to free game towels (per usual). I do have a couple of observations that were not able to be picked up on the broadcast and a few personal experiences. - Hudler pisses people off. He is CONSTANTLY skating by people and hacking their legs. And other players do notice it. That is a new dimension that makes me like him more. - Drake's engine runs on hits. He needs hits to survive. Every shift he has he was patrolling for a big hit. - Rafalski was horrible last night. He was beaten (as in blown right by without making contact) at least 3 times last night. - I love Mac even more. He was in Tootoo's personal bubble every chance he got. I realized that he wouldn't fight Tootoo unless Tootoo started thinking he could roll over our guys with no consequences. Downey on the other hand would fight Tootoo just to fight him or pump up the team. Either reason is a good reason to have one of them in every game. - An older couple arrived next to me mid first period. They were older (late 50s) and were well dressed (not Wings garb) and had a upper class look to them. The man had a bluetooth on and received at least 5 calls during the game and made a couple as well. The woman was miffed that their seats were so high as she enjoyed being in the lower bowl much better. Everytime someone made a loud comment or cheer (not with the crowd but alone) she would make a comment to the tune of "I wish we were down there, I don't like it up here." I see now that the lower bowl is the reason the JLA is "quiet", it is a class structure with the upper class, quiet, non-cheery folks down below and the "commoners" with their loud noises and beer in the upper seats. - IT WAS LOUD ALL GAME. It may not have seemed like it, and there were worrisome parts where the crowd was on edge, but there was always a chant trying to get started and there were a lot of successful ones. There was even an "elllllis elllllis elllllis" chant after the 2nd Wings goal. People were on the refs for all of the non calls, especially the one where Cleary was hauled down during the Kronner elbow penalty. Anyway, great game and great experience all around. GO WINGS!!!

If you mean they are the Yankees as though they have the largest fan base and every other team and their fans hate them because they are successful and the dominant name in the sport, then yeah.

Trotz says that Z's goal shouldn't have counted
Wings_Dynasty replied to Frozen-Man's topic in General
It happens in hockey. I bitched about the net goal, I bitched about the Homer-Ducks goal. I'll ***** about something that happens and doesn't get called this post season. What he doesn't say is that they all left the zone and no one was playing Z when the play was made. If the puck was legally kept in (and there was no doubt) and the play was made there still would have been a goal. -
GO WINGS GO!!! GO WINGS GO!!! GO WINGS GO!!! I will be there tonight. I am good luck when I am there. Wings 5 (Z, Flip, Lids, Raffy, Stein) Preds 1 (who cares)

Should Downey Play in the first game
Wings_Dynasty replied to Greatness=PavelDatsyuk's topic in General
Mac and Downey should rotate games. -
I really don't care if we sell out every game. Just leaves me the option of going if I can scrounge up some cash.

Lines at practice: Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Filppula-Franzen-Cleary (Helm skated with this line) Abdelkader-Draper-Hudler Drake-Hartigan-Downey (McCarty skated with this line) On defense: Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Lilja-Chelios Lebda-Meech (extras)

Stupid ESPN, they don't care at all about hockey.

He is the 4th Wing in franchise history to lead the team in points 3 consecutive seasons: Lindsay, Howe, Yzerman, Datsyuk

Doesn't necessarily need to be an enforcer, just a guy who can throw 'em. MUST be current players. My top 5: 1. Laraque 2. Chara 3. Boogaard 4. Shelley 5. Ivanans

Right now Lids is the only "lock." Oz and Feds should both be retired. Who is going to be 91 on the Wings in the future anyway? Some ballsy rookie who will NEVER live up to the number? Some player who was 19 on another team who signs with Detroit? Fedorov is 91. Just like Yzerman is 19, Vladdy is 16, and Howe is 9. Maybe the fact that we associate the number with one player only is enough to retire it... and maybe the 3 Cups, Hart, Selke, Pearson, finalist for the Conn Smythe two times and the best two-way player in Wings history should have some weight.
