3/27 Update: Samuelsson has groin issue, Filppula ready
Wings_Dynasty replied to 40#1Fan's topic in General
Well, if Sammy doesn't play we get to see a different PP. But I wonder why Hartigan is in and not Downey??? -
All I care about is that the Ducks don't get that lottery pick.

Look, I'm all for Mac making the team. But that is a HUGE assumption. Downey is in game shape and has proven to be a great fighter this season, especially against the enforcers of the league (Boll, Lappy, Parros, etc). Mac hasn't fought a real fighter in over a season, and the last few times he did he didn't do very well. He may be an upgrade in skating, shooting, passing, and puck handling; but to say is is better at checking, fighting, or pissing teams off in general is a mistake. Downey is here to be a stick-up kind of guy and protect our stars, to be a grinder and hitter. Will Mac be able to do all of that better than Downey??? Time will tell, he will have to convince me that he can take Downey's spot. It will be easier to take Drake's spot IMO. And it's Babs who puts the lines together, not Holland.

Are you sure? I thought that NBC picked up this Sunday's game a few days ago.

I'm 90% optimist, 5% pessimist, 5% realist. It usually flows like that. 90% of the season I am an optimist, 5% I am a pessimist (those would be the elimination games and games we should have won in the post and we just quit playing) and the other 5% is the realist who calms the pessimist down by saying we start again in October.

With above post, Meech or Hartigan sits. Flip and Homer are still out. When they come back is when that question becomes important. But Mac can fight his way onto the roster in the games he gets while they are out. If Flip is back Friday it will look like this. Franz-Dats-Z Flip-Cleary-Sammy Malts-Drapes-Rex Downey/Kopy-Drake*-Mac *assuming Drake plays If not: Franz-Dats-Z Rex-Cleary-Sammy Malts-Drapes-Mac Downey-Drake*-Kopy

JLA will be LOUD when he is on the ice or touches the puck.

ZORRO STRIKES AND CLEARY WITH THE ASSIST.

HA! Mick just said "ball-buster" twice. He said it naturally then Ken said, "yeah, it was a tough road trip." kinda joking then Mick said "Yep, it was a ball-buster."

The intermission guys on Versus were discussing the issue and one of them threw this idea out. If a defender were across the line first there would be a whistle, if not then game on.

Stay classy Roys.

Cleary is back. We win by default. Wings 4 (Dats, Cleary, Stein, Malts) Blues 2 (who cares)

I'm diggin' it!

This will be fun to watch.

Homer left practice early and angry... uh oh. He must be frustrated that the pain just isn't going away. Mac for Friday? Sounds good. Flip sounds more cause for worry than Homer. Although Homer is a more important part of the team, Flip is what the Wings will need in the post. A player with scoring talent that the other teams forget about. Cleary coming back is GREAT news. I feel a goal coming from him on Tuesday.

IMO, I like the race. No-touch would kill the potential for a great play. I remember in 97 when the Wings were playing the Avs and there was a dump in by Detroit where there would have been an icing. Foote was going back to touch and Fedorov tore ass down and beat him to the puck. Foote roughed him up a bit after the touch and a penalty was called. Exciting play that lead to a scoring chance. Penalties should be blown on offensive players that throw hits racing for the puck. The defensive player is going for a whistle and is not concerned with what happens after he touches the puck. The defensive player can hit the offensive player AFTER he negates the icing because the play is still ongoing. If a defensive player touches the puck the play is DEAD. Any player that throws a hit on a guy looking for a whistle should be penalized. Solution, double minor for intent to injure. Running a guy who is not expecting it is dirty.

You MUST be a member of the Canadian media. I agree that a goalie can't be the best player. They don't do enough to consider them a complete player. When asked who is the hardest player to play against, Crosby said Lidstrom. Would Lidstrom say Crosby? I think he would probably name a goalie. Lidstrom is the best player of the entire game of hockey (within the rules) in the world. Being a defenseman, he will never win the Richard, he will never lead the league in assists. But, he will probably win the +/- this year, he will be the highest scoring Dman this year and he is ALWAYS up against the BEST players on the other team. He is a great passer, has a great shot, great control of the stick. And he is no doubt the best player at his position. He is PROVEN reliable and he is consistent in all aspects. There are no slumps. He is better as a player. As for AO being better than Crosby, time will determine that. But this year AO is the MVP of the league.

I will probably do it this season. I haven't done it since I've been able to grow one and the Wings haven't won a Cup. So, in my superstitious head, if I were to do it that is the clincher and the Wings win the Cup.

Pretty much any brother of a "star."
