Even Strength Goals By Ice Time Here's a look at how individual Red Wings measure in terms of goals that they're on the ice for (for and against) per 60 minutes of even-strength ice time. Please note that these numbers are strictly for even-strength time, not special teams. He is the one player who is matched up against the opposition's best -- Ilya Kovalchuk, Dany Heatley, Jarome Iginla, Joe Thornton. But his stats aren't fazed by that. Lidstrom is so far ahead of the rest of the blue-liners in offense created that he ruins the curve. Only Niklas Kronwall is above the team average that's buoyed by Lidstrom's numbers. -- As good as Henrik Zetterberg has been, these numbers appreciate a player like Pavel Datsyuk and how he controls play on both ends of the ice. Zetterberg is the MVP candidate, but the Red Wings have outscored opponents 51-20 with Datsyuk on the ice and 42-21 with Zetterberg on the ice. I'm not sure that Datsyuk hasn't had the better season. -- The shut-down forward has become Johan Franzen. Opponents average less than 1 goal per 60 minutes of even-strength time with Franzenstein on the ice. (The Red Wings have outscored opponents 15-7 with Franzen out there.) It's not surprising. In Franzen's first season in Detroit, he was clearly the most effective penalty killer among forwards. -- In the underrated category would have to be Dan Cleary's offense, Mikael Samuelsson's defense, Jiri Hudler's defense and Andreas Lilja's offense. Lilja shows well in offense in this stat every season and poor on even-strength defense. Neither should be very surprising. Lilja can head-man the puck well and he soaks up so much defensive responsibility that the Wings can usually go with a four-man attack. -- The lack of offense from Kris Draper, Tomas Kopecky and Kirk Maltby is acceptable because they at least keep their offense to the break-even point with their defense. Dallas Drake, however, has similar defense stats, but his offense is so low that it's a drain. The Red Wings have been outscored 11-6 with Drake on the ice. With Maltby (10-10), Draper (16-15) and Kopecky (13-11), the Wings are at least break-even. -- A few stats to impress your friends with ... Of the Red Wings' 108 even-strength goals, Lidstrom has been on the ice for 58, Datsyuk for 51. There are seven Red Wings who have been on the ice for about double the number of goals for as against ... Lidstrom (58-20), Datsyuk (51-20), Franzen (15-7), Zetterberg (42-21), Valtteri Filppula (32-16), Jiri Hudler (28-14) and Cleary (39-20). Those are seven very good two-way players (although Hudler doesn't get credit for being such.) Note that even though the Red Wings don't score much with Franzen on the ice, the team still has a huge advantage over the opposition. Matt Ellis has been effective (7-5) in limited time.

I would say Detroit has the best chance of landing Forsberg. Swede friendly and the #1 Cup contender. But at the same time, will they pay him what he thinks he deserves. It would definitely be a Bertuzzi-like situation though. High risk and a low probability of high reward. But... he could be stronger than ever after a break... EDIT: addition

Never know, we may get him back, then again he may beak his leg in the first game he plays. It's a game of chance and Holland took one. Better than sitting around HOPING we get a power forward, he made a move to get one.

I say we let Hossa get like 6 more and let him have a record. Then the Thrashers will be financially ruined when they HAVE to resign him to a $10 mil per year contract. Win through attrition. We win this game 5 years from now.

Well, it's over. Now it's about keeping it respectable and getting at least 1 goal.

I had a dream last night with a Red Wings score in it. Wings 6 (Dats, Z x2, Lids, Kronner, Malts) Thrashers 1 (who cares)

I take offense to your offense. I can say what I want when it comes to someone who broke the law and got away with it. Should I feel sorry for Dany Heatley whose life was shattered... Oh wait. Sounds like your friend did nothing wrong except speed. But since I don't know the whole story, I won't comment on it. But I know more about the Heatley incident to where I believe that I can have an opinion on it. Drinking, speeding, crash, death. And not just regular speeding, but split-your-Ferrari-in-two-using-a-wall speeding. But, I'm sure there are people in this world who think O.J. should be remembered for his playing days. But today, since Heatley has pretty much done nothing but kill someone, that is my nickname for him, "Killer." But if it will appease the masses, good luck Dany, may your recovery be as speedy as your driving.

It's true though. He should be in prison. He had been drinking, speeding, and killed someone because of it. I would be in jail right now.

Everyone always brings up Blake's bad numbers. He has bad numbers because LA uses him as their #1 dman and he isn't a #1 dman. He is a PP shot specialist and a stay at home defenseman. He has no speed but he DOES play a physical game when he has to. What does he have to play for in LA? I think a change of scenery would do him some good. I would rather have a younger version of him or a younger more aggressive dman, but if he is all we can get at the deadline then it is better than nothing.

I am all for playing Downey, he brings energy and that was what the Wings lacked tonight. Right now the lines are unbalanced, and Babs knows it. They were all over the place tonight and no line was effective. He needs to get back to what got us all of these W's. Z-D-H Rex-Flip-Sammy Maltby-Draper-Cleary Stein-Kopper-Drake/Downey (alternate) And play with the chemistry of the 2,3,4 lines. I know Homer and Maltby are not at 100% and it shows (Malts is closer than Homer) but the #1 line needs to get back together and rolling, if not now then after the ASG to get steamrolling into the playoffs.

Fedorov isn't the answer in this game. The Wild game maybe, but this game calls for a power forward that can get the puck to the net.

We can't get the puck to the net and we can't stop them from doing it. I say we deal with PHX for Doan and Jovo.

I'm convinced. We need a power-forward and a physical defenseman.
