Wings 5 (Dats, Cleary, Lids, Kronner, Homer) Sens 3 (Killer, Alfie, Redden) From Red Wings corner: Zetterberg has the flu Henrik Zetterberg did not participate in Saturday's morning skate and might miss tonight's game in Ottawa. He's a game-time decision. "It's my understanding he's playing tonight," said Detroit coach Mike Babcock. "If not ... we've played without him before. What are you going to do?" Without Z, here's how the Red Wings practiced ... Filppula-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Hudler-Franzen-Samuelsson Cleary-Draper-Maltby Drake-Kopecky-Downey Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Lilja Lebda-Chelios Hasek (starts) Osgood Ellis (healthy scratch) Ellis might play on the fourth line with Downey scratched. That's yet to be determined. Both will be scratched if Zetterberg plays.

Shoot Out skills competition to be judged now?

Elisha Cuthbert, Denis Leary, and Keifer Sutherland. Those are my guesses. I like the new format. Get the goalies involved with the goal attempt and break the shoot out rules with the ability to lift the puck off the ice. I am excited to see what Pavel can do outside the rules -

Not surprising, I guess he's going after Burke's position as "NHL Crazy Person." TSN Link

24 won't be retired for Cheli in Detroit. A dual retiring maybe, but I am dreaming.

Oh, that silly Bob Clarke on that silly Steve Downie

Well, he did smile and laugh on the way to the box. -

And that's fine if Blake is in a position to return the favor, not having his arms held. The fight was over, and Downie hit him. Cheap shot defined. -

Nice way of thinking. Matches your description under your user name. -
Wings 5 (Z, Dats, Homer, Lids, Kopper) Avs 1 (who cares)

Exactly. The NHL does need national exposure, but not for stuff like this. We need positives, like the Winter Classic. It was GREAT for hockey to be unavoidable for Sportscenter and other national news shows to cover. This clown needs to be dealt with, and eventually he will be (see 3-26-97).

HOLY SH*T!!!! I DIDN'T FINISH IN SINGLE DIGITS!!! 13/19 is actually NOT bad.

Should be a tougher game with Dallas on their own ice, but the Wings play great anywhere. Wings 4 (Z, Kronner, Flip, Dats) Stars 2 (who cares)
-
Someone will always be the weakest link on the ice. I would rather it be a role guy than a supposed scorer. At least Downey when he doesn't have the puck is making the most of the time he has, as opposed to a star scorer who lost his juice and that we have too much depending on him.

Ah, but will he send his 1A goaltender to a meaningless game where injury is a worry, or will he keep as many of his players away from this game as possible and put key players of other playoff teams in the game? Oh, Babs, you genius.
-
The remixed version is actually called "Requiem for a Tower"
-
I agree. He hasn't produced much in the regular season for a few seasons. But in the playoffs I have no problem with him getting extra minutes, he always steps up and gets a few goals and is a prime-time agitator.

Zubov is out. Undisclosed upper body injury. Per Ansar Khan

I also would like an insurance player on both fronts. Fedorov, Forsberg, Blake, and Ryder are being thrown around a lot, here are more names to add to that list: Lapointe, Knuble, Sammi Salo, Jovo. Lapointe seems happy in Chicago. I am not sure about Knuble's situation in Philly. But they are both big players with scoring ability. Sammi Salo has a hard shot. Not physical but would replace Sammy on the point on the PP, which is my one wish for the deadline. Jovo, on the other hand, would be one of those "OMG THE WINGS GOT WHO!?!?!" trades at the deadline, kinda like Bert last year. He is a physical player and plays his position competently (like Lilja does). But, with physicality on the blueline in mind, he comes up in my head.
-
Here are my 2 cents on Sammy. I want him off the point on the PP. He can't backhand pass to save his life. He shoots wristshots from too far out sometimes. But... He is a good sniper in close. He pisses the other team off. He can pass when he has time and space, he can actually make great passes. He can play on any line.

I am one of the people who think Flip and Rex are doing well. But, at the same time, they are not the best options for a Cup. They are expendable. At the same time, I don't want them thrown into a deal on a whim, we need a return on the investment. I don't want to trade away Flip or Rex for a rental player that will be here for the rest of the season and the post and be in Anaheim next year. To get a player like Chelios or Shanahan is what we all want, someone who will contribute for years to come, like Flip and Rex would if they are not traded away; but the temptation of a Bertuzzi or a Wendel Clark is strong to some. I want skill and time, not skill alone.

Big time challenge for the Wings. First elite opponent in a while. Wings 3 (Dats, Flip, Stein) Stars 2 (who cares) Hopefully Downey and Ott find each other on the ice .

Nice Johnson. Picking on a senior citizen.

I agree... Sammy and Lilja for Prucha.
