This would be a colossal mistake. It's irrelevant which conference the Wings play in if the league collapses around them. The league is too big with 30 teams -- no more.

I would have been shocked had Lemieux and Co. actually gone through with a move. I always figured the moving threats were mostly a negotiating ploy.

Well done! I don't know about most annoying fans, but some of the most annoying human beings I've even run across are the arrogant anti-south bigots. I've spent a lot of time south of the Mason-Dixon and have thoroughly enjoyed it every time...along the way I've run into some of the best people this country has to offer.

Smyth's agent just said on TSN that it was realized that Smyth wouldn't resign at 2:40. So the trade talks appear to only have gotten serious with 20 minutes left to play. With that knowledge on top of the reports of the GM's shock in regards to Smyth's availability...can we now all agree that the Wings had no chance here?? Confirmed by Smyth's agent.

TSN just said several GMs are telling them they had no idea Smyth was available... We now have to wonder if Holland was one of those GMs.

No use holding your breath for this one, it did not occur. Hopefully Eklund made his final appearance on an international sports TV show today, this has to be an awful embarassment for Sportsnet. I can't believe they were stupid enough to have him on TV in the first place.

I'm certain Smyth was available, but there were also contract negotiations going on. I'm pretty sure the Wings weren't willing to wait until the last minute to make their move and risk being left without a chair when the music stopped. This trade was destined to not occur until the very last minute before the deadline.

I believe it was an Eklund rumor that made it to air, because he was working with Sportsnet today. Eklund had a bad day today.
