Keep in mind, a team like NYI could: a) eat some of, say, Vanek's salary b) take on the salary of a Quincey or Sammuelson IF it meant getting the picks, young legs, or prospects that they want. -

I'm going to speculate that Quincey's not scrathed because we're trying to trade him. Hard to trade a guy when he's a healthy scratch on a s***ty defense. I would have put Kindl back on his ass before scratching Smith. But whatevs........

For the record, I would absouletly trade one of Tatar or Nyquist if it meant getting a big scoring winger or that defensemen we need. But I wouldn't trade either of them for a rental. And I would not trade Sheahan or Jurco. They both have size, and Jurco has great speed. Both are things this team needs desperately. We got Brad Stewart for a 2nd and a 4th rounder. Surely we could land that #4 D-man without parting with any kids. -

I predict that Kenny will answer some prayers and finally make a big splash at the deadline. I then predict that all those LGWers that criticized him for "kicking tires", "liking his team", and sitting on his hands are going to absolutely loose their minds when he trades one of Tatar, Jurco, or Nyquist. -

Today’s game made it pretty obvious that our forward group is not the issue. The issue will be improving the D. As radical as it would be to make a trade for a top pairing defensemen, Holland can do a lot to improve this team easily: let Quincey walk and replace him with a solid veteran who plays mostly mistake-free hockey in his own end. Kronwall - Ericsson DeKeyser - UFA/trade Smith - Lashoff Wayyyyyy better -
It’s not the number of penalties, it’s the timing. Today, Washington were given two early PPs to get rolling and one final PP to end the game. It reeks of being scripted. That being said, I love that The Red Wings don’t dive (usually), don’t whine, and have a coach that never uses officiating as an excuse. As a fan, I mostly try to follow suit, but sometimes it’s so ******* infuriating to watch.

This was a VERY even hockey game. So it’s hard for me to fathom that Detroit committed 6 penalties and Washington, only 3. Makes zero sense. Not to blame the refs (defensively, we were pretty stinky) but why do the calls have to be so ******* scripted? As a fan, you know when they’re coming.

That game was 50/50. Both teams played well enough to win. That being said, Detroit got jobbed by the refs and NHL.com gets their Ovechkin moment.

Hard to say that Jimmy has been “bad”. That being said, with the game tied, and the offence bringing the pain, Howard needs to make a save. And the D needs to buckle down.

Of course the fluids are flying around here for the young guns. But I have to say, hats off to the captain. Zetterberg is a glorious beast. Very few players in this league have the will and drive-train that Z has.
