I'm not talking about guys that should have retired two years ago. I'm referring to guys like Dan Boyle, Kimmo Timonen, or (heaven forbid) Jagr. Guys that can still play, willinging to sign a one year deal. Plus this year's mess was due to cap space. The Wings will have plenty next year. Also, I'm not saying that I want this, just that Kenny might do it. Agreed.

Yes. And I can totally see Holland signing someone in this mold to a one year Gonchar-type deal. Same goes for a forward. Stop gaps that come off the books when the kids are ready.

Two significant things for sure. Cleary scratched, and the start of the "Andersson on the wing" experiment. Hopefully Andy plays well on Helm's wing. It would greatly reduce the pains of having a log jam up the middle when/if the team gets healthy.

There is one thing I can think of, in retrospect, that Holland should have done to prepare for the post Lidstrom era: Summer, 2009. He should have packaged Franzen, Filpulla (while they were hot - coming off two good playoff runs) along with prospects and/or draft picks to acquire a young blue chip defensemen like Ekman-Larsen, and kept Hossa. Instead, he lost Hossa for nothing.

The same can be said for Sheahan. IF everyone gets healthy he'd be the 4th C on the depth chart after Datsyuk, Weiss, and Helm. If he's only going to get 4th line minutes with Drew Miller and Eaves as wingers, he'd be better off in Grand Rapids.
