Which UFA would help the Wings the most?

Really? Because unlike Detroit, Boston doesn't have a whole lot of dead-weight contracts. -
Which UFA would help the Wings the most?

With the way the two play right now, Bickell is an upgrade offensively a maybe physically. Abby is faster. Bickell's going to get paid though. Like 4M per year. Is he twice as good as Abby, who makes 1.85 per ? I'd love to have them both, but I'd rather take Bickell money + trimming-the-fat money and spend it on Clarkson or Horton. Legit top six wingers. -
Yes, but there would be no guarantee that Weiss re-upped with Detroit this summer. I know that, at the deadline, there was no guarantee that Filpulla re-signed either, but at least he helped us win a round vs Anaheim. Something Weiss' injury would have made impossible. Would have been an unnecessarily risky move for Holland to make at the time. Also, I don't like either Detroit or Toronto's chances of obtaining Weiss' rights. Doubt Florida would deal with divisional opponents. If Freidman is correct, you'd have to like The Stars chances.

Except Weiss was put on IR before the deadline and wouldn't have been available for Detroit's playoff run.
-
Geez, are we going to have to compete with Nill for all the same players? It's like he and Holland have the same map to the treasure. This better not be a thing.
-
Which is why a team like Detroit will have to overpay to get him. Same as Weiss.

Lot's of turnover and roster space clearing + 3 key signings. This roster would, at least, be Conference Finals quality. Disclaimer: Never going to happen with the way the Wings operate, but nothing about this roster is fantasy. Buyouts: Sammy, Bert Trades: Cola for a 4th rd pick Quincey for a 3rd rd pick or prospect Let walk: Filpulla, Cleary, Miller, White FORWARDS Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / David Clarkson ($5.500m) Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Steven Weiss ($4.500m) / Tomas Tatar ($0.840m) Gustav Nyquist ($1.500m) / Joakim Andersson ($1.500m)/ Damien Brunner ($2.800m) Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) / Jordin Tootoo ($1.900m) DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) Brendan Smith ($1.500m) / Rob Scuderi ($4.500m) Danny DeKeyser ($1.350m) / Jakub Kindl ($1.500m) Brian Lashoff ($0.725m) / GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($5.292m) Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $65,302,879; BONUSES: $1,010,000 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $7,121

Just negotiating rights, not players, correct?
-
I'm always confused with trades post-deadline, pre-Stanley Cup. As in: I didn't think they were allowed?
-
Looking at mock drafts posted yesterday, the Wings are slotted at 18th. Is this true? Does anyone know how this works? SC winner = 30th SC runner up = 29th Conference finalists = 28th & 27th then what? I'm confused. If this get answered quickly, you can close this thread right away. Thanks

To get to the cap floor. That's the beauty. His cap hit will be 3.9M, but he'll only actually get paid 2.5-2-1M in his final thee years or something. Perfect for some cheap-ass owner who needs to comply with the cap, but doesn't want to actually spend the money. Pretty clever.

Malkin + Fluery to Colorado for the #1 overall pick (Jones) + Landeskog
-
Here's hoping for a historical win tonight for the Griffins!!!!!
-
I know it's fun to prepare yourself for what you think will be worst case scenario by freaking out ahead of time, but the man who had final say in all recent Red Wing drafts is now the GM of Dallas. So, with that being a very well know fact, what precedent is there to indicate the Wings will pick Haag? Fact is, none of us know how Holland will operate this summer without Nill
-
Yeah, I don't think Streit will sign here at all. I was just pointing out that IF he did, he'd be more than a #6/7 D-man.
-
Streit is a PP guy who can put up points and move the puck up the ice really well. Like Rafalski. He'd be looking for at least 3 years @ 5M/per and he would play in Detroit's top four.
-
That draft pick able to pass the puck to Nyquist for the overtime winner in game 2 vs Ducks? That draft pick able to score the series winner in game 7 vs Ducks? I'm all for letting Filpulla walk if it comes to that, but I'm glad we had him for this playoff run. The Wings may have fell short, but the experience of being a goal short of the confernece finals trumps the value of an uncertain draft pick IMO.

The East might be more physical than the West, but come on. It's not like we're going from Ice Capades to Slapshot.

Which UFA would help the Wings the most?

I voted Clarkson just because he could be the net-front guy that we desperately need. Raymond was my runner-up. This team needs two things: 1. More crease crashers 2. More top-end speed Clarckson brings the jam, Raymond brings the wheels. -
WTF happened to Nyquist?
-
And would that price be 5M? If so? K later. The "right price" would be 4M max IMO. Cleary made what? 2.5M? He was our third best forward for frig sake..

People who don't "buy in" to Corey Crawford
rick zombo replied to unsaddleddonald's topic in General
Nonsense. Crawford had a better team and less porous defense in front of him. -
Datsyuk: I want to sign extension with Wings this summer

great news!!!!!!!!! -
Unless some tard team offers him a ridiculous contract. Which could very well happen.

Ah yes, but if Smith slides into the #5/6 spot, he spends more time against weaker opposing lines hypothetically bosting his stats, and Kindl in the #3/4 spot maybe fares worse that Smith does. Whatevs, I like them both. Just playing devils advocate.
