Well, they have the right guys up front. Other than Smith or maybe Ouellett, they don't have many options on the back end. My guess is that Helm is on there to use his speed as another option for zone entry (rather than dump-chase or pass) and Nestrasil might be a good net-front guy. He had a nice PP deflection against Boston.

Trading Jurco makes no sense based on salary and even less sense based on potential. Lot’s of deadweight can be cut to make room for Nyquist and Smith. In fact, since we’re talking trades, there’s as good a chance as any that Smith would get dealt before Jurco.

I think the issue is that some people act like the Legwand deal represents Holland's career personified. Like the guy can't be trusted to make another trade or run his team. That's the issue for me anyway. There weren't nearly as many theads and posts praising Holland in 08 as there have been ones bashing him this summer and so far this fall. I know it's the nature of sports and sports fans, but I grow weary. Case in point.

Time to trade Zetterberg I guess.

Well, Mrazek will be sent down. That's a given. The general opinion is that Datsyuk will most likely go on IR making way for Nestrasil to stick for a week or two. The real question is on D. If they're serious about keeping Ouelett, they have to make room for him by waiving/trading either Kindl or Lashoff.

I suppose it could also just mean that he's trying to bring Weiss along slowly? Who knows with Babcock, he can be weird sometimes. See: Legwand, David - 4th line center.

Crazy. A couple of thoughts: 1. The pairings of Kronwall - Ericsson DeKeyser - Smith Quincey - Ouelett are about as great as anyone could hope for right now. 2. On a team that has at least 6 guys that can play up the middle, there is a glaring need for a second line guy. Sadly, it's looking like it might not be Weiss. but it sure as hell shouldn't be Helm either.

Agreed on Jensen. But Mrazek's sample size extends into solid performances last year (2 shutouts) and, of course, his AHL record which includes the Calder Cup.

Something has to give. Basically, there has to be a trade soon. Too many good young players taking jobs right now.

Exactly. If 2nd rounders are risky picks, then it makes sense to improve your odds. That’s why 2nd rounders are so valuable. Over the years, a good team will eventually grab a guy like Duncan Keith or David Backes or, in the Red Wings case, Jurco, Tatar, Ouelett, and Sproul. Keep those 2nd rounders if you can.

What’s the old saying? Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Eventually even an idiot like Snow is going to make a deal. To be honest though, two second rounders and a third is a lot to give up. Chiarelli is falling victim to the salary cap. The same thing that gutted the Wings offence in the summer of 09. I still think he’s a great GM. Snow has to make a move. He has one of those teams that needs to start winning. Holland is just trying to stay afloat while his stable of good prospects start to come. I still think he’s a great GM too. Fair enough. You’re right. Any Wings fan should still take Holland all the time over Snow. That almost goes without saying.
