I agree...even though Mootch supposedly isn't calling the plays... Garcia tried to hard to force matters. With the way our defense was playing, that is the last thing that our offense should have been doing... The crazy flip that ended up being called intentional grounding was pure stupidity on Garcia's part...I know that he is good at making something out of nothing, but that was incredibly dumb and the Lions were extremely lucky that it didn't hurt them...

Harrington didn't play great, but he was hardly the main reason for the loss. You can't do much when you're on your butt after every play and the play-calling is absolutely terrible. On the last drive, he made the throw that should have put them in range for a long field goal try (well within range for Hanson), but it was dropped. They also should have had time-outs left to use...poor coaching cost them those... Also, as great as the defense looked all game, that last drive was pathetic. He threw to the same receiver all the way down the field, yet he still ends up wide open in the end zone for the touchdown... Overall, another horrible performance by the entire team. Harrington deserves his share of the blame, but I'd put a lot more on the coaching staff and the offensive line than him. Mariucci is supposed to be a great offensive coach, yet their play-calling is horrible.

I've been a Flames fan for years. Back when Edmonton dominated the NHL, the Flames were the only team that wasn't afraid to play them. They used to have some wars. I'm a Wings fan first, but Calgary has always been my 2nd favorite NHL team...

I will be disappointed with anything less than the Stanley Cup... That being said, I fully expect to be disappointed.

Anyone who thinks that the Wings don't need to add some toughness (especially some form of enforcer) will probably be the same people complaining at the end of the season when 2-3 of our key players are on the injured list as a result of some cheap shot that could have been prevented. The new NHL will still have fighting. Cheap shots will be responded to, unfortunately though we have nobody to respond to them currently on the Wings. Without that presence, physical teams will go all out against the Wings, punishing our soft forwards and defensemen. Sure, we may out-score them (in the regular season), but they have accomplished their task, to wear us down so that we fail again in the playoffs. As a team, we need more toughness. One enforcer isn't going to completely tip the scales, but it would be a good start. Our only players with any sort of ability to keep the game in check are Shanny, Rivers, Chelios, & Fischer. Shanny can't hang with the big boys, and is needed more on the ice than in the box (not to mention the age factor). Rivers also can't hang with the big boys and won't play enough to make a huge difference. Chelios will play his nasty brand of hockey, but isn't a fighter and age is also a huge factor with him. Fischer doesn't have enough of a mean streak in him and needs to worry about developing his game more than playing any sort of enforcer role. Without adding toughness, this team has only one shot of success in the playoffs. They need to draw teams as soft as them. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a lot of those teams out there...

I think that you have to look at the whole statement to really understand this. After waiting for the Leafs to move Belfour, and in communication with Edmonton and St. Louis...these 3 are all teams that he already played for. I believe that as a joke, the line was added that Detroit may come into the picture soon, seeing as how we are the other team that he has played for already... In my opinion, this was a mis-understood attempt at humor, not a serious rumor.

Schneider played 13 games in 94-95 for the Islanders and 65 games in 95-96 for them... I wish it were true that we were looking to move him...in my opinion, we could spend his 3.3 million better, but it isn't going to happen...especially to Toronto, where he was greeted with a chorus of boo's everytime he took the ice...

I put it there because I seem to read his name way more than I should on this board, so I thought I'd join the crowd, be one of the big boys and throw a joke in there, but as you can see I'm just a 2 post draftee. Okay...I thought for a moment there that someone actually thought he belonged in that grouping... Welcome to LGW...

How can you even mention Cheveldae's name in this group??? For him, the answer is easy...his rookie season, which is the only year that he really showed any sort of promise (although even then he tended to wander a bit and flop around on the ice like a fish out of water...)
