Brett? you trolling? lol Why is everyone so afraid of the Hawks? 8-0 vs Quenneville last year. 4-0 this year until two meaningless end of the season games.... outside of Conklin sucking in the first period of the Winter Classic - we schooled them. I'll eat my hat if that guys can beat the Wings in a 7 game series....

Any Joe Thornton sightings?

I never really look at it as "re-seeding" anyways. Each team keeps it's seed throughout the conference POs, just the top seed left plays the lowest seed each round. The way the NBA does it sucks....

They are going to switch at some point - should do it now seen as how the Hawks game is essentially over. Come on Ducks, don't let these chokers off the hook....

Brashear's antics on Sunday (suspension coming)
RockyMountainWingGal replied to miller76's topic in General
Well I guess we differ in that I am more interested in defending the Cup than fighting. Other than Sammy, I sure as hell don't see anyone that's "girlie" out there. And i certainly don't want another Lilja-esque injury. As long as we're smoking them on the scoreboard, the Wings can talk smack and act like badasses all they want. As long as we have the Cup, we are badasses anyways. -
Yet the organization gets to ultimately decide if "what you did" is worthy of their rafters. As long as the Ilitches own the Wings, there will be no #91 in the rafters.

Brashear's antics on Sunday (suspension coming)

You think the Wings played like girls in sweeping the Jackets? You must have been watching a different series than me. The Wings took it physically to the Jackets - the epitome being Stuart's hit on Umberger. Franzen laid out Nash a few times also. Cleary, Z, and Pavel were all tossing some bodies. The Jackets' forums were screaming about their team getting beat up. I'll take a 4-game ass-kicking with plenty of physical play over some goon taking fighting majors and losing us the series.... -
Sweeping the Avs last year seemed easier - Theodore sucked far worse than Mason, the whole Forsberg thing backfired in their face, they had no answer for the Wings' offense, and they got really banged up their players dropped like flies (conditioning?). The Wings could have scored 10 goals in any of those games at will..... s*** Franzen pretty much single handedly smoked that team and that series....

If we let people on this board vote, every player who has worn a Wings jersey would get their number retired, and we'd run out of numbers.... Chelios? No way - maybe if he goes back to the Hawks and they actually win a Cup with him doubtful) they'll hang it there.

Then why didn't the Wings win in '95 or '96? Conversely, Fedorov wins no Cups without the Wings..... Fedorov - in his prime - was maybe the most dynamic player I've ever seen. I got the feeling later in his time with the Wings that he wasn't leaving it all on the ice (sans 02 where he played great). His antics (hold out in 98, contract dispute in 03) are unfortunate. For that reason alone, the Wings will never retire his number. I could see some kind of tribute to past Wings at some point, but no retirement. Not sure how people don't see that Shanny was different. Fedorov was drafted a Wing and could have stayed with them his whole career. Shanny came in mid-career as a trade. Fedorov bolted in what still should have been prime years in his career - and pre-cap era where the Wings made an overgenerous offer and he refused. Shanny was a UFA in the twilight of his career - post-cap era where the numbers count. His friend and Captain just retired and he did the right thing by allowing the Wings to go in a different direction with some younger players. Big difference.

Not sure if you were paying attention to this day by day like many of us were in 2003 - I'll give you my rendition. (why not - got a week off til more hockey) During the course of the 02-03 year, the Wings had a 5 year 50 mill offer on the table. Sergei sat around for quite awhile without signing that offer. Some say he was going through his divorce with Anna, so he was '"upset" and needed time to think things over. Not sure about you, but I don't need time to think about 50mill. At some point, the Wings rescinded that particular offer, a new one came up 4 yrs, 40 mill. I am fuzzy on this but it might have been after the Wings got swept in the first round by the Ducks. Sergei rejected that too. Anyhow, several days went by after the July 1 FA signing period and it seemed no other teams wanted to pay 10 mill per year for Feds (at least that's the impression I got). Rumor was he was still negotiating with Detroit. Several days later his signed with the Ducks for 5 yrs/40 mill. So essentially he could have had 10 mill per year in Detroit but he took 8 mill per year from the Ducks. All the while his agent was spewing that Sergei only wanted to stay in Detroit. What I as a huge Fedorov fan got from all this, besides a heartache, was that he never wanted or intended to stay with the Wings once he was a FA. That of course is his right, but it pissed the S^&% out of me as a Wings fan, and someone who hoped Feds retired a Wing. There aren't alot of players who have willingly walked from the Wings for less money, but he is the prime example. The sad thing is, Fedorov has never been half the player he was since he left Detroit. Should have stayed comrade!
-
Agreed. The Wings have high standards for retiring numbers (unlike say the Avs ). No way Fedorov has his number in the rafters at the Joe or any new arena. No disrespect to his time with the Wings, it just won't happen....
-
I have very little interest in the East but if I had to pick - Go Devils in game 7! Let's just get rid of the southern teams for the season already....
-
With two game sevens already on Tuesday, it looks like Thurs or Friday. Odds are one of the West series has a game 7 on Weds too. Kind of sucks waiting around for a date.... Personally, starting Friday night would be nice.....good way to end the work week with a Wings PO series starting, and avoids the two-day layoff Thurs-Sun....

The Ducks have looked like the better team for 80% of this series. I expected the Sharks to come up with a win at home in game 5 - they tend to only win when they are desperate (as Suprafly pointed out, they waited until they were down 0-3 to Dallas last year before they showed up). I'll be surprised if the Ducks don't close this out at home... IMO, the Wings, Sharks, and Ducks are all better than Vancouver. The only way they make the WCF is by lucking out with their draw - the hapless Blues (how did they get in the POs?) and a mediocre team either way in Chicago/Calgary. I guess when you rarely get out of the first round, that is grounds for celebration.
-
Darn - could they not have waiting til 3OT? Anyhow, game 6 at least....beat each other up please....
-
Really? they are the team i would fear the least. I might be haughty, but the Wings would smoke the Hawks in a PO series like good weed. Basically we smoked them 4 games in the reg season, then took the final 2 off (plus the bogus penalty shot call). Q's record vs the Wings is abysmal. He had lost 12 game in a row to us before those gifts. ANyhow, I doubt we meet them this season, but I wouldn't fear them in the least...
-
Are you kidding me? I'd much rather play the Canucks at this point. I still believe if the Wings bring their A-game they can beat any of these teams in 7. Flames/Hawks are pretenders. Canucks have a good goalie - but one that hasn't gone far in the POs. Their depth cannot match ours - I'd take them over a PO experienced, Cup winning Ducks team anyday.
-
My bad - I got home late and tuned in and I think the game may have just been over. I'm mountain time, but the game was Hawks time I forgot, so I think it ended right when I tuned in and they cut those off pretty quickly - I was just trying to catch the third but I was an hour off. Sound like it wasn't worth my time anyways - stick to the Ducks-Sharks.
-
Well we need this series to be extended - so good enough start for 2 periods. Hmmm the Hawks-Flames is the first game I've been blacked out of all POs - why is this not on Center Ice? If I was missing the Wings I'd be calling those *&^%$ers and giving it to them.....
-
I don't like Blake because he is a former Av - but he would have made a far better captain than JT or PM. Hard to do since he just signed this year, but those other guys either have to go period, or have their leadership taken from them (they did it in Dallas to Modano - and the team did fine after that).
-
Total embarrassment for a C. Even when the Wings lost tough games & series when Stevie was the C, he left everything he had on the ice (teeth, eyes, & knees sometimes). How does your team leader have 0 shots and a -3 in a crucial PO game? If that was the example my team leader set, I wouldn't play hard either. If I was him, I'd voluntarily give up the C - and give back part of my salary. It's one thing to lose, it's another thing to not even try, and not even care. Sorry for Shark's fans this guy is your leader.....

Did anyone just hear the comment on VS about the Wings win?
RockyMountainWingGal replied to RyanK's topic in General
I wouldn't say that's true. Several columnists including Terri Frei on ESPN picked the Wings to win it all AND thought the Sharks cannot beat us (not that they'll get the chance). Everyone expected us to take care of business in the first round - I think that's why there hasn't been a lot of coverage of our winning this series. -
If they are gooning it up like Umberger into the bench and Commodore on miscues, we can handle that.
-
Absolutely. But the Wings handled the Ducks well in the 4 meetings this season. As long as our PP is clicking - they take so many penalties - that should give us a good advanatge. Our forwards will take it to the Ducks defense far more than this bunch of lackluster chumps. edit: Ducks lack any scoring depth too. Getzlaf, Selanne, and now this Ryan kid...not much after that
