    Is this the final chance?

Wondered that in '99, '03 etc.... The answer is NO - the Wings will be in the mix for the foreseeable future...

    Caps in Anaheim tonight.

The Caps are kind of my East Conf team. I was very disappointed however when I was in Wash DC last week to find out they were not televised on my hotel cable?? Not sure what station airs them in DC but I got versus and everything so I figured the local sports network would come through. Anyhow, sad to see the Sharks beat them up tonight.

    Worst regular season games

Someone in the gameday thread said yesterday's loss was the worst ever for the Wings. Not even close, I thought. To keep things in perspective I've been thinking of games that were far more egregious and consequential than last night's. Please nominate your worst regular season game ever (hopefully it will help make last night look insignificant in comparison). My nominee: April 6, 2003 Wings vs. Blackhawks last game of the regular season Wings lose to the Blackhawks in OT 3-4 and wind up losing the Pres trophy by 1 point to the Dallas Stars. More so than the trophy, we had to face the #7 seed Anaheim Ducks in the first round, in which the Red Wings were swept out of the playoffs in 4 games straight. Had the Red Wings faced the #8 Oilers in round 1, we may have gone on to face the Ducks in round 2 , and probably lost anyways. But still, the sweep started with the inability to hold onto a single point in the last game of the season.

    Barry Melrose fired

I didn't even know he was fired until today! I think Barry's is best as an analyst/commentator. Sure, he picked against us alot (Avs over Wings last year ) , but he sure as hell was entertaining. I liked his hockey coverage on ESPN - at LEAST it was coverage. I hope he goes back to espn - will be hard after getting canned - and maybe won't happen this year because he'd have biased coverage after coaching. Not sure why everyone rags on the guy so hard. Sure he picked on the Wings some, but he also does give us credit alot too. He has some serious man love for Nick. I like to pick on him too, but all in good fun. It's a travesty that an organization like this actually put something together one year and won the Cup - doesn't seem like they deserve it. I've said it before: both of those Florida teams could fold and I wouldn't shed a tear.... s*** - I have Avs- Lightning tix in a few weeks too - no mullet.

    Worst regular season games

We could nominate the entire 80's I have fond memories though of watching Stevie Y and the Wings with NO expectations of ever winning anything. And hearing the score of the "Dead Things" announced on the radio on my way to school every morning....

Start voting for the wings! (ASG)

Total joke - obvious ballot stuffing. Or folks have NOTHING else to do in Montreal. Alex Tanguay with >126,000 votes for third place? :rotflmao: and the last place in the pacific division Stars with the #1&2 forwards? :rotflmao:

    Worst regular season games

I'm going to add a worst game that we won: December 2, 1995 Red Wings shell the Habs 12-1. Roy is left in the game for 9 goals - and states he's played his last game for the Habs. He was traded to the Avs the next day. Had he stayed in Montreal - the Wings seemingly would have at least one more Cup. In retrospect it would have been better to just miss the net purposely on every shot in that game.....

    Latest on Zetterberg talks

I love Z and take his word at face value. However, I was tainted by thinking Fedorov would stay forever and I took his word for it (well in so many words). Risking FA would make me ultra nervous. I don't think it will happen. But I have to see the John Hancocks on the dotted line before I can breathe a sigh of relief. As for Hossa, if we don't win the Cup I see him bolting for the cash. (Alot of pressure I know). If he gets a Cup I could see him sticking around long term (hopefully). I surely hope Franzen goes nowhere. He's an integral part of this team now - who knows this guy could become even better. The only thing that worries me is he seems to attract strange injuries. However, I worried about his with Kronwall for several years and that seemingly passed (knock on wood).

    Most Boring Champions

The first thing I notice is that this is under the NASCAR heading for some reason. That says it all right there. Watching cars drive in a circle for hours is exciting? I suppose the occasional one that blows up or crashes is exciting? This was humorous to read. Michael Phelps is boring? Did this idiot watch the 800 relay vs France? Maybe the most exciting Olympic swim event of all time? Whatever, he wants to watch cars drive in circles. Lidstrom is a kind of quiet champion. Yet Yzerman was too, so were champions like Mario, and Wayne. Methinks this idiot doesn't like hockey in the first place. So my advice is: don't write about it then. I'll take any hockey player in the league over one of his beer swilling, red neck, car drivers.

    Burke out as Ducks' GM

Wow - I knew he was likely leaving after the season - but seems a bit early. Don't see how this will affect the Ducks this season - but hopefully negatively.

No Doubt: It's a Cup Hangover

Where's the calling for the coach's head? Nope I'll stick with Babcock Where's the bashing of the refs? While wings fans would predict before the game that there would be a 5-3 when the Pens get behind AND a penalty on Detroit in the last minute of play like clockwork - the Pens still deserved to win the game and the Wings did not Where's the "Cindy Crosby is such a freakin' whiner!"? Who whines when they win? Solid all around effort by the Pens offense - the depleted D still gave up 6 goals Maybe Pavel has the flu? How often does he just fall down on the ice? Never seen that. The complete whiffs on clearing were also baffling - I mean noone around, clear shot at the puck - and "miss". Makes me think other forces were at work. Trying to look at the glass half full: Our offense is solid Our PP is great Our starting record is acceptable We just need to get the D into gear - team D at that. Playing two subpar teams this week - will be interesting to see if the Wings take out some frustrations on them.

11/11 GDT: Penguins 7, Red Wings 6 (OT)

Not even close - you cannot have a worst game in early November. Giving up 5 goals in about 15 mins is inexcusable. I thought for sure we would win in a shoot out - meaning shoot out style game. This is very disappointing for sure. We still have alot of time to correct this though, it's just inexplicable to have so many boneheaded turnovers in one period...sigh.

Larionov has a special place in hockey history

Congratulations Igor. Even though you spent half your career in Russia, I'll still always think of you as a Red Wing. Brings tears to my eyes everytime I see a replay of Igor and Fetisov skating around the Joe with the Cup in '07.

2008-2009 NBA Season Thread (Pistons trade for Allen Iverson)

Yup - happened here in Denver - they were one pathetic crew even with AI. I'd take Chauncy over AI any day. Nuggets win on this one.

2008-2009 NBA Season Thread (Pistons trade for Allen Iverson)

Terrible trade IMO. I have watched Iverson here in Denver and he is the epidemy of the selfish NBA gotta get my points player. Billups - although getting older - is the backstop of this Pistons team. Plus a character guy - hard to find in the NBA. Only good point for me is I might actually pay to see the Nuggets with Chauncy. Although he will have to deal with the antics of Mellow..... I don't really see how this makes the Pistons any better....

    worried about ozzie?

I thought Oz did not play well Monday night - he only faced about 17 shots - but he was good in the SO and we still won. On the contrary, I though Oz played very well last night. He stopped a handful of point blank shots. The 5-3s were just gimme goals to the Ducks by the refs. Our shots against is climbing higher - the defense needs to shut things down and keep pucks away from our GT like they did last year. However, when you're on the PK all night like they were last night, 34 SOG is expected I suppose. When Sammy keeps getting "roughing" penalties, you KNOW something is up with the reffing.

10/29 GDT: Ducks 5, Red Wings 4 (OT)

Wow - that was even worse than the Penguins refs. If the Ducks are good enough to win - so be it - but to hand them goals with 5-3s every time they are behind? LMAOROTF And who scheduled the Ducks and Sharks back to back? why not the Kings-Ducks back to back? I'm starting to buy into this conspiracy theory against the Wings....

    Hockeystreams.com

FYI I went to pay for one month to try it out - via Paypal where I was redirected. It specified it would automatically deduct future months from my account - which I do not like. Did anyone get around this? I just want to test it and if I like it, I would be happy to pay for more time...

    2008 US Open

Didn't look from the score like a very competitive match (?). WTF playing the US Open men's final on Monday afternoon??? I know they got rained out one day - but here's a thought - most people are at work on Mon afternoon - how about Monday evening?? Who cares about Mon night football - it was on espn anyways - and I would much rather have watched the Open! Oh well, see you all in January for the Aussie...

    2008 US Open

Well I think Djokovic is an *&^%$ so I'm glad the crowd booed him. I rescind my position on Federer - I root against him sometimes because it's nice to see someone else win, not because he's a jerk. Now I hope he dispatches of this Djokovic character handily - at least Roger and Raffy have some class. Anyhow probably won't watch anymore of the men's draw. I'll root for Serena even though I was pulling for Venus in that match....

    2008 US Open

Really sucks that this Williams sisters match is in the quarters. I'm hoping one of them wins it all - not really anyone who can compete with them on the circuit right now - don't think Safina is up to the task...Women's draw is kind of boring this year... Will be interesting to watch Fish tonight - although Nadal is my insurance plan to beat Federer if noone else does. Roddick as always is entertaining - it would make my tennis year if he could get through to Federer and beat him for once - but I won't get my hopes up too soon...

    2008 Summer Olympics

I thought the women's heavyweight - whatever they call it - the "clean and jerk" was pretty darn entertaining. Some women from South Korea won - can't remember the exact kgs, but it was a world record. I found it highly entertaining to watch these "big" girls trying to lift all that weight - and the crowd got into it!
