The women's heavyweight was just bizarre to watch - yes HUGE girls - but they could lift something unbelievable.. Maybe I should qualify with "some" of our pro athletes are fat and out of shape. Watching these NFL camps and preseaon games - it's still my opinion that many of those guys are fat and out of shape - sorry if that's offensive - if those guys ran the 100 meter dash they'd drop dead.....I suppose it's a matter of opinion what constitutes an "athlete" but I'll take the swimmers and runners over the 300 lb lineman....

The 2008 Olympic swimming events were awe inspiring. Makes one proud to be an American. Beating the French after the trash talking = priceless. Wish the ladies would have picked up a few more golds - but let's not get too picky... Phelps is just inspiring with his passion to win. Plus he seems like a nice guy too - not too full of himself - yet at least. Dara Torres is inspiring for me 'cause she's my age and I still swim year round for excercise. As far as best athlete - I'll definitely put him up there. You have to factor in he's competing against the best in his sport from around the world - he kicked but at the Worlds and 8 times in one Olympics in this day and age is just sick. You have to factor in the domination, and he's up there. Plus if he comes back and picks up more in London - put him up there higher. Interesting discussion though on what makes a great athlete. Watching the Olympics makes me think of how fat and out of shape many of our pro athletes are in the US - ie football and baseball.

Bowman named Senior Advisor to Blackhawks
RockyMountainWingGal replied to digitaljohn88's topic in General
Dang. I would angry with him for defecting, were it not to be closer to his son. He is in his mid-70s (I think) and it makes sense to be close to family. Wings were going to have to move forward w/o him sooner rather than later anyways. Scotty, you are a Red Wing for life, despite the Hawks job - good luck in Chi-town (well kind of) - best to you and your family - see you next season, may the best (Red) team win! -
Cheli ought to pull a Forsberg/Niedermeyer and just hang around at his beachhouse until we need some depth near the trade deadline........

I'm kind of sad about the trade. Pudge was the spark that put Tigers baseball back on the mat. Agreed would have much rather sent Shef right back to NY - but nobody probably wants him. Pudge>>>>Shef on and off the baseball field. Time to move on I guess - good luck Pudge - well to you individually - can't wish luck on the Yanks....
-
Because people are paying to see the Packers, Bears, Vikings play? I cannot imagine shelling out money to the Ford family to see the product they field - as long as you current Detroiters continue to support that crap, nothing will change.
-
Ditto on the Wizards - never heard of them. Had to think about the Bobcats too - didn't know Charlotte had a team in any sport (maybe they shouldn't). Lions deserve to be on the list - outside of Detroit - they are a non-factor and never mentioned on NFL talk shows. When I played fantasy - nobody in the league had Lions players - and for good reason....
-
I always thought he would be a good fit with the Wings organization. How about scouting for us in Russia? But not sure what Igor wants to do - apparently spend some time in his native homeland....

The Pens sucked 5 on 5 - and they scored on the PP anyways to pull within one. No doubt the refs were giving the Pens at the end of the game there - the no call on Datsyuk was laughable. But it's all a mute point - the better team won in the end. I still think Huds needs to be more careful there at the end of high stakes games - a lesson we learned all too well last year.
-
...because he took two stupid penalties in the waning moments of Cup clinching games 5 and 6 - yet the Wings still won, Huds kept on trucking, the team still supported him, and he was the most entertaining player at the parade. Other than that, I'd be griping about him had we lost game 6 too...

Gotta go Probie Uwe Krupp or Maxim Kuznetsov

Sundin still doesn't know what the !@$% he's doing
RockyMountainWingGal replied to a topic in General
The Oil should be better this year. It's between Avs or Nucks for last - the Avs have this habit of sneaking out of the bottom - just when you've thought they hit it... Nucks have Luongo - that's it. The Sedin twins + Demitra does not a legitimate threat in the West make..... -

Still sounds like a rumor at this stage to me. "ready" for Vancouver doesn't equate to a signing... Anyhow, he might as well stay in Toronto for that matter, the Nucks could easily land last in the NW division. If he's going to go to a losing team, he might as well stay with the Leafs.... -
Have to give him credit for that. Rome is definitely a closet Wings fan. As far as NHL teams go - the Wings have the best long shot at winning a best team competition vs East coast NFL, NBA, and MLB teams. Still, the general public probably doesn't know anyone's name on the roster, whereas they'll recognize a Manning, Garnett, Ramirez, etc. It doesn't bother me - the fact the Wings are on the list is impressive enough. Ditto the who cares if Crosby wins an ESPY - the Wings won all the brass and the

hmmm crystal ball says... Stamkos OK I can't resist: Cody McCormick or Cody McLeod :octo:

Yup i get all the Avs games but could certainly use MORE Wings. Center Ice usually has a free preview the first week of the season - so you can check it out. As Duckguy mentioned you can buy the online streaming for cheaper (not sure the costs this year). Be aware you can always stream any game you want (look for threads on that) but you never can be sure the quality and consistency. Another option is usually Center Ice will give a half season discount. Sometimes I've waited 'til January to buy it and they knock some off (not half price though)... Look for Center Ice threads in September with details....I'll find out the Directv cost in Denver by then... p.s if you get Directv - the NHL network airs games too

Great post! I can't believe how quick people are to jump on the guy's back because of alleged non-loan repayments. That's between him and the bank. It's not like the guy killed somebody. People on here crack me up. If you haven't ever paid a bill late, bounced a check, ran low on money - than you are pretty much not human. It says nothing about a person that he missed a loan payment - other than exactly that! What if Z missed a loan payment? Everyone going to run him off the team? Since this already turned into a bank thread - if you gave me a choice of whose side to pick - it would NOT be a bank. As several posters have mentioned - they are rude, opportunistic predators to many people (and actually I'm not one of them if you are wondering). Personally, I think each bank involved in the lending crisis should be liable for all their bad loans - they are responsible for dragging this nation into the housing crunch by purposely giving loans to people who did not qualify - purely for the fact they made money on it. Now the govt wants to bail them out. I say let them all crash and burn. We all know people who are in foreclosure danger - I have a good friend also who is in danger - and she has a steady job and makes all her payments! Sorry to rant - but until Sergei starts an S&L crisis, it's not really our business.

tough one. Larionov 90's Larionov or 08 Datsyuk
-
Yeah me too. Banks are nasty - he's made more than enough money to pay for what he supposedly owes - doesn't make sense. I missed my mortgage payment by one day a few years ago - due to an electornic mishap - and they sicked an army of collectors after me THE VERY NEXT DAY. Missing a loan payment doesn't make you a bad person.
-
Wasn't that great when he bolted to Philly for more money - although the Avs did lowball him. Avs fans take this as "good news" that he'll come back again by the trade deadline. Talk about inability to move on. If you have to count on this guy to come back and rescue your team again in March - you're in trouble (hopefully at our hands again ).

Behind the Scenes look of Wings Championship DVD
RockyMountainWingGal replied to NeverForgetMac25's topic in General
Yeah I got a Monday shipment estimate too. That's what I get for the free shipping though! - I'll be away this weekend so it will give me something to look forward to next week!! Wish I was in MI so I could have just ran to the store to get it! I did check some Denver stores - like B&N just in case! Apparently folks in Denver don't want to see the Wings kicking the Avs butts AGAIN! -
I am having this very argument on the Avs boards right now - yes horrible place for this! The guy only played for their team for about 14-15 months - but yet his jersey hangs in the Can and their fans practically consider him a career Av. Bourque has more points - but also played 360 more games. Lids has way more hardware. Bourque had to hitch a ride with the Avs to get his one Cup - albeit he played an integral role in the run. RB has 5 Norris trophies. Nick has 4 Cups - all of which he played an integral role in (played vs top lines in 97-98, was the MVP in 02 over a handful of MVP -type HOFers, captained one this year). Now is ahead of RB with 6 Norris statues. I really hope he wins more so we can put the Lidstrom/Bourque argument to rest. For me - it's already a done deal after this past season anyways. He could win 10 Norris and 6 Cups and the &*^%$ Avs fans will still pick RB - hell they probably pick RB over Orr too..... (if they know who he is )

Behind the Scenes look of Wings Championship DVD
RockyMountainWingGal replied to NeverForgetMac25's topic in General
I downloaded all the finals games onto my Ipod - I think it's about $10 for all, or $1.99 individually - quality is excellent. Then the Wings are with you wherever your Ipod goes. (even in my car, sadly) My DVD is in the mail - Amazon has them for circa 18.99 plus free shipping cause I ordered something else to get me to $25.00... Can't wait! -
He should definitely stay in Washington - and just negotiate something reasonable. IMO Sergei needs to redefine the twilight of his career by putting himself on the radar again - and showing the NHL what dynamic player he CAN be. What better place to do that than with the Caps and Ovechkin? He'll make decent money - and he's with a team that really could use him to flourish. Fedorov is the most dynamic player I've ever seen play hockey - and it is just sad how his career tumbled downhill after leaving the Wings. I'd like to see him finish his last few years in the NHL with a little more noticeablility. But maybe to him the extra 2 mill is worth wasting the last few years of your career in some hockey wasteland, who knows....
-
Personally, I think he should have signed the long term offer with the Pens. Your team has Crosby, Malkin, Fleury, and now Orpik long term AND they play in the East - a bit of an easier road to the finals. But obviously he wanted to go to Detroit - no matter the deal (not like 7.4 is nil). He's taking a big risk by doing so. I can relate to the "didn't want to play in Pitt" aka Hossa with Federov merely on the basis that Sergei in so many words "didn't want to play for the Wings anymore". But as above posters have suggested, the Fedorov deal was a big blow to the fans that supported and loved him. Let's just say love-hate relationship because Sergei came with some drama. Hossa has only been in Pitt a few months - imagine how that would feel if he had been there for 12 years - heartache! The good news for the Pens is... the Wings were able to move on successfully w/o Fedorov - something I was skeptical of at the time. The Pens obviously had immediate backup plans with their other signings and should be able to move on OK also....
