You know at first when Bettman gave the Cup to Lids I thought they were booing Nick - on second look I was like "oh duh" they're booing Bettman. lol I will have to say pretty classy of the Pens fans to stay and watch part of the Cup ceremony. If I was able to be at a Cup clinching game I'd stay too even if my team lost - chance to see the Cup presented etc. Once in a lifetime opportunity.
-
I too am curious about Franzen. But I wouldn't worry too much - there is NO way doctors or the team let him play if he has any kind of noggin injury that could compromise his health. We'll see but I don't think it will be too bad.
-
I'll add that Flip is just so exciting to watch. I look forward to his shifts - and wow he had some masterful goals - 2 in the SCFs. Wings org. knew what they were doing not listening to trade offers for him....
-
OK I'm watching the replay of last night's game and it still infuriates me - yes even though we won. Sorry but it was so predictable they would call a PP for the Pens with under 2 mins left - that was the lamest hooking call I've ever seen. And then they totally ignore the trip on Datsyuk thereafter. I don't usually subscribe to conspiracies, but that penalty on Hudler just isn't a call in a Cup clinching game. On the flip side - kudos to the ref who didn't blow the whistle on Hank's goal. Great read by him. I suppose it goes both ways but I cannot help but feel that every time the Pens were in trouble - they got a PP. Anyhow great that the Wings battled through all that - we were the better team.
-
Replaying it on NHLN right now. They should replay it a few times if you check their schedule - you could DVR it....
-
Naw he's not kickin' himself. He won 3 Cups w us and it was time for him to move on. He likes living in NY and playing for the Rangers. He was interviewed a few weeks ago and said he was watching the series from his apt. I'm sure Shanny is happy for his former teammates....
-
For those of us far away - we will get limited coverage. Please post pics on here for all of us to enjoy. Maybe there will a link to some video?? I do get FSD so maybe they'll replay some of it there... Looking forward to the official Cup winning video myself

Not sure what I'd do without my online Red Wings community! Great site - been that way for years. Thanks Matt for such a tremendous job - seriously the Red Wings organization should thank you!

I vote for Malkin also! lol No Wings player had been bad enough for that - we play a great team game, and guys who have made mistakes, have made up for it with great plays......

The Official 2007-08 Detroit Pistons Season Thread
RockyMountainWingGal replied to a topic in Other Sports
Well Mello does have his youth going for him. He has completely tuned out Karl in Denver. Someone would have to get through to him and convince him he'd have to become a team player to win...maybe whomever Detroit hires could do that - who knows? -
Osgood has had some stellar games in this SCF but last night wasn't one of them. Do I blame him for the loss? Of course not, that's ridiculous. I think Ozzie has outplayed Fleury for the most part this series - save for last night. I am sorry but I've seen last night's game all too often over the Wings' playoff runs in the last several years. We basically outshoot a team over 2-1 but their GT somehow stands on his head and outplays ours. That is no knock on Ozzie - that is just something the Wing's style of game had a tendency to run into sometimes and I HATE it! As for the "Ozzie ran out on the press last night" - big deal - who wants to talk to those yaks after a 5 hour affair - esp after we didn't win. He's been very forthcoming to the press all playoffs - they could wait 'til today to talk to him. Ozzie is a vet and I have confidence he'll bounce back and have a great game tomorrow. I'm calling for Fleury to fall back to earth...
-
Try the Detroit News next time. Don't blame us 'cause some sportswriter expressed his opinion in his column - and tempt us to agree with him or not. Reffing was bad last night - but NOT why the Wings lost. OTs are so much fun when they don't call stupid sh*& unless it's blatant. The high stick was just an unfortunate accident from a player who'd been playing hard for almost 5 hours - the hockey Gods seemed to not be on our side last night - although the Wings almost fought through that too........
-
Thank you all for a wonderful time!

Hockey fans are as tough as the players - I have confidence you'll fight through this! I work in at a large medical center and our surgeries and drugs get better every year - you're in good hands. Will be thinking about you during the game tomorrow night - peace be with you! -
We could find a reason to blame almost anyone on the team - how about someone hit the EN once in awhile? Anyhow, I will agree it was a botched clearing attempt - maybe Babs will think about it and not put Franzen out there for the 6-5s etc... Looking forward - Go Wings in 6!

Z does have incredible stats. That's what makes it such a difficult choice. If his stats were just mediocre - Oz hands down. Z leads the POs with a +16, leads the team in pts w 23 (second to Crosby - barf) and is second to Franzen in goals w 13. I believe he will tally a few pts tonight and take over the pts and goals lead - if he does that along with his unreal +/- stat - he will get the trophy hands down.
-
True but we were winning that series fairly handily vs. Nashville until Hasek melted down......

The Official 2007-08 Detroit Pistons Season Thread

I keep hearing people in Detroit say that. However, living in Denver, I don't think Mello would have been the best thing for the Pistons. He's overweight and out or shape, has a bad attitude, plays NO defense, has his share of off the court mishaps, and is pretty much just out for his own personal stats. ie. NOT a team player. They talk alot in Denver about trading him although I doubt it will happen. Maybe the Pistons system could have changed this, who knows??? But right now he's been unable to have his team win more than one playoff game per year (or none sometimes)......and he seems to not really care at all..... -
Naw we gave Yzerman the Captaincy when he was young. Sid will grow into it. And as much as people here are microanalyzing every word he's said, he really hasn't said anything that egregious. Let's see how he reacts when the series is over (perhaps in less than 24 h??). My money's on that he'll act like an adult and shake everyone's hand and congratulate them (whether that's tomorrow or later this week...).

So what did Sidney Crosby really say to Zetterberg?
RockyMountainWingGal replied to Coolio Mendez's topic in General
"Hank can you remind Ken Holland I'm a UFA in 2013? I can't wait" -
I think his PK frenzy last night probably tilted some voters in his direction. Points or no, that was just a Conn Smythe worthy performance.
-
I think you're right on. He knows Z owned him on that PK - but he's not quite ready to admit that publicly. If you listen to the Wings when they lose, ie. Nick, he always gives credit to his opponents WHILE also pointing out that his team can play better. Crosby will grow up and learn that. I sincerely hope Sid acknowledges the Wings play *when* they win the series - I think he will, but I'll be sorely disappointed if he doesn't.
-
Kind of reminds me of Fedorov in 2002. I thought he had his best playoffs ever. He wasn't always the one up on the board - but he was a complete player - all over the ice, mistake free, PK, PP, all of it. But those kinds of things don't get you the numbers. Pavel has been outstanding this postseason - but like you said - the numbers are probably not there - as far as intangibles - he's been incredible!
-
I voted for Z. Ozzie is of course deserving and could very well win, but here's my personal logic. Ozzie will likely win his second Cup as the starting Wings goaltender (3rd overall). He's broken several Wing's goalie records and will now be considered a HOF type GT - the Smythe would be great but he's a vet and the Cup alone will be justice for him. I really think the CS trophy would benefit Z more at this stage of his career. He's worked so hard, and in my mind, is underappreciated by hockey fans - being overshadowed by the likes of Crosby et al. He leads the league in PO pts and +/-. His play tonight on the PK in my mind just says it all. Anyhow, feelings of course are not part of the consideration, but that's would be my choice.
-
What makes this win all the more sweet is that they did call a BS 5on3 at a crucial moment AND our PK kicked ass - Z was out of his mind - and we still won the freaking game! The Wings deserved to win this game - not even Therrien can complain because they blew their opportunity. Enjoy it, or.....go watch the Tigers instead.

I actually look forward to the 1 minute a day Melrose discusses hockey on ESPN. Barry belongs in the booth and/or as an analyst as far as I'm concerned - not behind the bench.
