If that's the case, our chances of winning the Cup just went from favorable to abysmal. I really think he was the "secret weapon" that was making the Wings so invincible. Not that we don't have a shot w/o him, we just become a one-line team that's easier to defend. This sucks, I really thought this was our year to get lucky and avoid any of this kind of bad karma sh*&t.

I listened to their end of the season (hehe) radio show yesterday - had on Francois Giguere and he won't comment on Q right now. Leads me to believe they will let him go - but who knows. The commentators (Frei et al) think they should have offered him a new contract by now - so who knows. Q is an OK coach - if the Avs have any aspirations of going further than a lucky 2nd round in the POs they should look elsewhere. Dunno who is out there - maybe if Wilson gets canned they'll hire him - hell take Hartley back! lol If the situation were reversed, and our coach had that kind of record vs the Avs, I would be calling for his head. 0-8 in one season? I don't care how many injury excuses they come up with - that is just unacceptable. But hey - it would be better for Wings fans to keep him around. An easy 4 W's during the season.

Stars took the tough road for sure - one that probably should have avoided in the first place - but no matter, got the job done. The Wings earned their draw - and for once I can say we got a bit "lucky" - if that's possible. Hey we got the Flames-Sharks-Ducks draw last year - and it didn't work out too well in the end. For once we didn't have to play an upstart team in the first round - and got a favorable match-up in the second. And the Red Wings deserved that for earning the 1-seed. They will be tested much more this round for sure - that's why it's the WCF! I think Dallas will be tested much more than the previous rounds also - works both ways! Oh and btw, we weren't such slackers scoring goals ourselves (Theodore if you recall was much touted after the first round - sick my a$$ - he got his a$$ kicked).
-
Wow - too much time off! (for me at least, not the Wings) I'll be boarding a plane for Europe right when the puck drops - probably will have no idea who won for another day or so - unless Lufthansa is so inclined to provide in flight - NHL hockey? Maybe I can pay for internet on the flight - who knows.... Anyhow go Wings! Will have to follow this series from abroad so I expect you folks to will the Wings into the SCF!!!! Turco's playing well - but so was Theodore before he ran into us - Wings in 6!!!!
-
I have been a rabid Stars fans at some points in my life - like say in '99 and '00 when the Stars played the Avs in the conference finals both years. the Wings were ousted by the Avs in round 2 both years - and the Stars then took care of business in the WCF! Of course just the one Cup - but a fun run! Another thing that has attracted me to the Stars are your two Michigan boys - one native - Modano, and one who played for my alma mater (thanks for the natl title Marty). Anyhow, all that said - nice job vs the Ducks and Sharks - but Wings in 6!!
-
Wait 'til you see him and Don Cherry covering the games together now 'til the end of the playoffs on ESPN! This should be very entertaining! Seriously - Melrose had to pick us this time. After he was completely humiliated by "Avs in 6" there was nothing else for him to do. He does kind of have some manlove for Lidstrom. Anyhow, it is a bit odd that they all picked the Wings. I think it will be a long tough series - and the Stars like being the underdog. Wings in 6! Oh, and btw EJ Hradek picked the Wings to win the Cup before the season started - he's been with us all the way - no bandwagoning there.
-
oh barf - why go to all that work and then lose in OT? oh well, here's to Dallas ending this 2nd round tonight! p.s. oh and did I mention the East sucks! lol
-
OMG I don't favor either one of these teams - but 4 mins at the end of an elim game? Please don't make it sooooo obvious you want the Pens and Sid the kid in the finals - ridiculous
-
Uh-huh. Kind of like Hasek retired, right? Oh, and Forsberg himself in early March "I'm done I cannot play anymore" Don't cry too hard. Tomorrow could be a different story.
-
1. Jose Theodore 2. Peter Forsberg 3. Joel Quenneville I'm sorry I just have to get a few more licks in from that series.
-
Sea of Red? That's what we had going in the Pepsi Can in the third period after all the Avs fans left. Seriously sometimes when you look at a non-home game you see almost as much red as the Joe (well not quite but close it seems). Anyhow, I find the sea of fans in one color kind of annoying personally - when I watch a Flames game or something for example.... just m.o.

GDT: 5/2 - Dallas Stars @ San Jose Sharks
RockyMountainWingGal replied to NeverForgetMac25's topic in General
Well they're making it interesting. 2-1. I still say the Sharks choke tonight though. Would be beneficial for us if the series went longer I suppose - cannot find it in me to cheer for either team. -
Hmmmm tough. The only reason I would consider it would be that I don't think our PK has been great - the Avs PP was actually kind of effective against us (and they were pretty much not effective at anything else the whole series). Forget the 5 on 3, that's a gimme - but as pathetic as their team was playing, I would say it's one area where - if I HAD to find room for improvement - I would. Just dunno though, guess leave it to Babs to figure if Malts matches up better w the Stars....

If you don't get Versus, try here: myp2p Stars game -
Of course he did - and I watched his recap after each of the 4 games just to LMFAO at his disappointment. :rotflmao: Please please Barry pick DALLAS next!
-
Thanks! I thought both teams showed some class last night. Wings: played our 3rd-4th line most of the 3rd period. And didn't put our top PP unit out for the last one (well, um I guess calling Franzen not the top unit might be a bit of a stretch right now ). Avs: was really kind of glad they didn't try to goon it up when the game got out of control - and that was early on. I suppose when you are losing that badly and there is no next game, what's the point? Anyhow I stayed until the bitter end (with my Avs friend). Hey I thought it was pretty cool that the Avs players saluted the crowd there after the handshake - I even cheered loudly for them!! My advice as a Wings fan in Avs town: 1) let go of the past - Forsberg will likely retire anyways but focus on new, young, different (ie Foote kind of sucked all series) 2) don't resign Theo. is there anyone else out there? maybe not. But Budaj can do just as good of a job and Theo wont get you far in the playoffs, and finally 3) don't give Quenneville a new contract! Nice enough guy if you have no aspirations of winning the Cup - but very average as a coach. 0-8 vs your rival?? And factor in he could never beat the Wings in St. Louis either. Some rivalries don't tolerate that (see John Cooper, Lloyd Carr). Move on there also. (please can Granato too). Better luck next year! Come back Joe!

lol - I was debating as a hockey fan whether I was pissed I spent $$ on such a lop-sided game that was over after the first period - but hey an opportunity to be at such a series clinching ass-whipping was well worth it! I don't blame the fans for leaving - they showed up and cheered for their team, and the Avs just packed it in early - I actually went to the game w an Avs fan - had to buy her a few drinks! I lost track of who scored what by the third period "I think I saw Franzen score 2, 3, 4, goals but I cannot remember" lol - had to check the stats when I got home lol Avs fans: FIRE QUENNVILLE: 0-8 vs the Wings in one season = you suck with a big fat exclamation point!
-
Well I would argue that most of their core was in for games 1 and 2 and we still kicked their ass. Forsberg out game 1 & 2: he wasn't here all season anyways - i don't even consider him a "core" player since he can only go about 1/10 times. Hannan and Wolski started game 1 - out for game 2 Smyth played game 1 and game 2. Star goalie Theodore and dynamic duo Sakic & Hejduk have all been in and SUCKED, (aside from Hejduk). Their defensive duo of Foote and Salei have both sucked it up too. We all know damn well we would have won this series anyways with a fully healthy Avs roster - but yes the media pundits will spin it like the ONLY reason the Avs lost was because of the injuries.
-
Hehe - will do! I love the "go home" chant from Avs fans? huh? We live among you - you idiots! Like I travel 1000+ miles to go to games in your arena every year! Let's Go Red Wings will be heard loud tonight!
-
I hate to question any hockey player - but is he hurt bad enough that he absolutely physically cannot play? Or does he know it ends tonight so he doesn't want to risk further injury to his groin/ankle whatever? It's not like he's risking his career since it is obviously pretty much done anyways. I've obviously never had a groin injury so in that regard it may not be fair to question him, but I'm sorry there is just something fishy about this whole thing. The Avs should get their 1 million back - or better yet - reimburse all the fans who they sold on buying tiks to see Forsberg the past month - and aside for the 6 games vs the Wild - he's rarely played. Anyhow, i'll be there tonight for the sweep.
-
Hmmm well the rumor here is that his job is safe. He'll get the easy out 'cause of all the injuries. But does anyone really think this guy is a playoff calibur coach? I don't. He's a nice enough guy and an average coach. The fact that he allows that idiot Granato to be his assistant makes me lose all respect for him. Better for the Avs to move on with their core of younger players - but likely won't happen. Here's to owning coach Q for more seasons to come!!!

Forsberg Excuses, Sakic Attempt at kneeing Dats?
RockyMountainWingGal replied to Wingsor's topic in General
We need to worry alot about the next game - and if the Wings are up late in the game - look out! Q will totally try to goon it up (Blues anyone?). If he cannot beat us on the ice, they'll attempt to rough us up. I would like to think if you get your ass kicked on the ice the way the Avs are, you could just take it like men and realize you lost to the better team - but I have to say I don't really trust this bunch. Hopefully we'll be up in the third and DMac and Drake will be seeing alot of ice time! -
Well now it seems I should have waited to buy tiks until now - great prices from bailing Avs fans - but having them early is OK since the games were technically sold out. Still I didn't pay much over face anyhow.... Sea of Red tomorrow night baby! Go Wings!!!!
-
They've been like that since the lockout. Good on "paper" but no real chemistry on the team. Q is just an average coach too - he wouldn't know what to do with a good lineup anyways.

Anyone else going to gm. 3 tonight?
RockyMountainWingGal replied to Wing-in-avs-town's topic in General
Are you kidding me - we ROCKED the Pepsi Center this year during the Wings games. In fact, I wouldn't be so sure there weren't more of us (Wings fans) than Avs fans at the last regular season game between the two teams. Combo of them doing poorly at that point in time and the Wings kicking their butts during the game (caused alot of Avs fans to leave)....Watch all the red jerseys on tv tonight.
