I think it's a BIG stretch to try to call out Zetterberg after tonight's game. Of course he needs to step it up and score some crucial goals - but he is definitely not why we lost. Different guys have stepped in - Z in the first, Draper, Homer, Hudler, and Datsyuk tonight. As a team the Wings need to play better - our defense has been very shaky the last two games, and obviously our goaltending stunk it up - you can't win playoff games giving up goals like that. Hank will be fine.

Avalanche/Wild on versus, anyone blacked out?
RockyMountainWingGal replied to DrThunderer's topic in General
Are you sure you're not in the Wild market? I am blacked out in Denver because the game is on my local station - check other possibilities - maybe even the Center Ice channels to see if yours comes in. -
Thank you - the series vs the Avs and Kings nearly killed me those two years. I am never confident until we are up 7-0 in the third period of game 7 (lol '02). Ducks can surely comeback, but I don't think they will based on the way they've been playing. They didn't lost two close games - they stunk it up for both. Giggy has been terrible and they are getting smoked on their strategy of taking alot of penalties - Stars are taking advantage. Something we failed to do last year in the WCF - although the Ducks were playing better than this. I bet they split in Dallas - then Stars take it in 5 or 6. (sorry Duck fan - been there felt that if it happens).

Seriously he must have been last on the list of "who's available" to comment on the playoffs. Very freaky as a Wing fan to watch him stumble on the air. Just don't think he has the broadcasting gene in him. Plus, imo, should be limited to FORMER players - there are plenty that might like a crack at that....Luc is doing a bit, Hull does some (OK he's a loud mouth but more entertaining than Manny). List could go on and on....

4/10 Playoff Matchups Discussion (GDT)
RockyMountainWingGal replied to NeverForgetMac25's topic in General
If they lose this series - Wilson would have to go. If they get bounced in round 2 or 3 by a good team - maybe not, who knows with them. Depends what you mean by the "last few years' but I would say the Sharks are far more underachieving than the Wings. I would base this on us having at least won the Cup as the favorites in 2002 (and if you want to go back to 97,98 as well). Sure we flopped in the first or second round for several POs after that, but at least the Wings did win it all as the favorites once this decade. The Sharks have not gone to the SCF yet - even though their team history is quite brief. -
any other baseball team fans besides the tigers?
RockyMountainWingGal replied to a topic in Other Sports
Maybe true - but if those teams can't float w/o the subsidy they should be moved or contracted - it worked for Mont-Wash. Anyhow, I wasn't such a big fan of the cap in the NHL because it limited my team - the Wings - but for the NHL as a whole something was needed (sigh should have contracted a few at the time). Yanks and Sox fans wouldn't like it in the MLB - but I think most rationale fans can admit something needs to be done - when you pay 50mill just for the rights to a pitcher - and that is just about more than a some teams' payroll, it gets kind of ridiculous. Still like the nature of the sport in general, just think some issues need to be addressed.... -
any other baseball team fans besides the tigers?
RockyMountainWingGal replied to a topic in Other Sports
Not looking so good for me - like the Tigers in the AL (0-7) and Rockies in the NL (2-5). At least I got to see both of them in the World Series the last 2 years, even if neither team won. Baseball has two major problems imo though: 1) of course they need to clean up the steroid issue 2) they need to move into the 21st century like the rest of the leagues and adopt some kind of salary cap and/or system. I know the Tigers tried to get in on the "let's spend a bunch of $$ on big hitters" this year; but it's hard to take the league seriously with such ridiculous gaps between the teams. Sorry Red Sox and Yankees fans, this would apply to everyone. Red Wings survived through the cap implementation - MLB would survive fine too.... -
I would have to disagree with that statement. A puck to the eye socket or jaw is far worse - as are head injuries and concussions and blown knees. I'm not saying these guys should go out there and play with bad elbows or whatever is ailing them - part of this is just plain bad luck for the Tigers - this will be the second season Zumaya is basically out for the year. And as you mentioned - his glory days are probably done. Rodney is just plain bad luck too. Even when hockey players tear their ACL's - we're talking 4-6 months out, not 2 years. Anyhow, at 0-7 I doubt there will be any reason to rush anyone back from injuries later in the year, but we can somehow hope they turn it around and at least make it interesting....
-
Well so much for getting excited about the start of baseball season. So many problems where to start? For one, where the he$$ are Rodney and Zumaya? Didn't go to the post-season and had the whole winter off, and still can't play? I guess that's why I'm a hockey fan at heart - those guys will play through discomfort to help out their team. Hope it gets better, but guess after fizzling out last season we should have seen this coming.

Not a bad draw for the Wings. Although of course I'm nervous whomever we play. Just wasn't looking forward to Calgary again in the first round... Nashville lost Vokoun, Forsberg, and Kariya, but is playing us tough of course. Key I think will be to get an early series lead and not fall behind....Hasek must return to playoff form... Side notes - how the f*&&% do the Avalanche get lucky and avoid the Wings, Sharks, AND Ducks in the first round??? They don't deserve that as a lower seed. Here's to hoping they wind up in 5th or 7th after Sunday.... Also, I blinked and the Caps went from 9th to 3rd overnight. Awesome if they beat out the Canes for the division title - NO southern teams in the Playoffs !!! (not counting Nashville as deep south) A victory for the NHL.
-
Ouch - they keep talking "when Zubov comes back we'll be fine" - now cannot count on that. Would love for them to give the Ducks a run but do not see it happening...
-
Damn that sucks. However, if we had to sacrifice a player to the injury Gods for the playoffs - it could have been much worse. Let's hope they don't come knocking for more . Let's just hope Maltby, Drapes, and Homer hold up....
-
Sharks cannot improve nor demote their position - just a moral boost for the Kings at this point.
-
Vintage Turco. It'll happen in the first round again this year - but here's HOPING not anyways, better for us that Dallas wins.
-
Luongo has not been as good this season. In fact, he's been average to shaky the past month. Last year - yes they would have been scarier, but really this team has so many holes I'd not fear playing them - won't happen now no matter....
-
These dumb fu*&s have single handedly moved the Avs up to 6th by handed them an easy 6 pts in the past few weeks....and everyone here thinks the Avs are turning it on. Umm, NO, you're playing the CANUCKS every other game.
-
Not sure what you'll are cheering about. This team is so bad it might be a GOOD thing to meet them in the first round of the playoffs. Instead we'll face tougher competition from Nash or Calgary...

Peter Forsberg forgetting he's old and washed up.
RockyMountainWingGal replied to Jocu's topic in General
Somewhat? he missed more games than he's played since he got here (Denver). He has a very difficult time playing two games in a row. Rumor here in Denver is that his ankles are really bothering him (no duh after so many surgeries). I don't see him being able to withstand playing playoff games every other day for too long - but we'll see. And yes his goal last night probably looked pretty on the highlight reel, but let's no forget it's the Canucks - except for their one night of glory vs. the Flames, they have been abysmal at best. Point is - he's not the Forsberg we are used to seeing. Of course he can make on impact on the Avs - hard not to improve that team from where they were before the trade deadline - but he certainly does NOT have me shaking in my boots - if it comes to it - Nick will kick his a$$ - outplaying him that is. -
That would sure be nice! Anyhow i think we need 1 pt to clinch the conference/pres trophy.... Can these boring central division games end soon enough? Maybe not even with a potential match-up with the Preds in the first round. sigh.

Is Nicklas Lidstrom going to win the Norris Trophy again?
RockyMountainWingGal replied to sputman's topic in General
The poll on TSN currently stands and 70% - Lidstrom wins the Norris, and 30% no he doesn't. I would curious to know whom the other 30% would have win it instead? Or is it just a meaningless vote against the Red Wings? -
lol yeah we pretty have the 1 locked up so edit #5-7 seed!

Canucks' postseason hopes have taken a hit.
RockyMountainWingGal replied to 40#1Fan's topic in General
Nashville will now be in 8th - they have more wins than Vancouver. Wow are the Nucks tanking it - won't miss the long travel for the Red Wings.... -

The string is "cute" but I agree doesn't rival the beard. I'd have to second the - "just don't shave your legs or arms for two months". You'll get used to how it looks after awhile. You can always wear long pants - and tee shirts if you don't want anyone to see anyways. And you can shave it off when your team exits - hopefully June!! We Americans are too vain about our shaving habits anyhow. Not to give TMI - but I live in a cold weather climate and don't shave my legs all winter anyways - since I never wear shorts for months (sadly). Just my 2 cents on what would really truly rival the beard.

I agree on the seeding. The Ducks should be seeded ahead of the NW division winner - provided they remain with more points. I like how the NBA does it - with the division winners being guaranteed a top 4 seeding for home court in the first round. However a team with a better record from one of the other divisions can be the 3 seed. In this case, it would be 1=wings, 2=sharks, 3=ducks, 4=wild. I personally think that would be fair. It will be even more relevant when the NHL goes back to playing more games outside of their divisions... The Sharks will probably benefit this year - potentially getting 2 NW division teams and avoiding the Wings or Ducks until the WCF. The way it is right now, the 1 seed potentially gets the tougher opponent in the second round than the 2 seed - all because of the divisional seedings...just my take anyhow...
