I wouldn't worry too much - did you notice the Wings February record? Ouch! Anyhow nothing will matter until the playoffs really. Worst thing for the Ducks will be not to have home ice vs the Sharks....but they will still be the favorites in that series....

The weird thing is I was watching the game and you couldn't really tell what happened to him other than flipping over Theodore. Bad luck... Don't wish injury on anyone, although a little dark voice inside of me is asking why it couldn't have been Pronger - the one guy on the Ducks I loathe...

Yes there has been alot of discussion about this - even last year on Detroit radio. I think it will be delayed because of the poor economy - which is kind of silly because it would bring in alot of constructions jobs, and Ilitch isn't hurting for cash. Although it would probably require some kind of vote from the tax payers too I assume. I think it would be great for Detroit and the Wings to get a new state of the art arena - it's just time. My only worry is that the "Joe Louis" arena name is one a kind in sports, and I loathe the new corporate naming schemes....Comerica Park, Pepsi Center where I live.... :puke:

Obviously the NFL only has 16 games so their tiks are the highest and baseball the most games - thus the lowest avg prices. This makes the poll about the NBA-NHL the best comparison since they have an equal number of games. I know per ticket in my market - the NHL is definitely higher than the NBA. But this figures in all the markets. I feel I get much more bang for my buck in the NHL too - even though I DO think they should lower prices so more average fans can attend. It only makes sense since they slashed the salaries to cut the tik prices too. Center Ice upper bowl is 50$/tik in Denver - so I spend $110 on tiks and parking for ONE game - not something the average fan can attend often.....

Exciting news. The difference is that the NBA get way more PROMOTION from ESPN, newpapers, radio, tv etc. But the numbers aren't showing up at the box office. I'm one of the people tilting the scales - I have money to spend on circa half a dozen pro games a year and I choose the NHL over the NBA. I go to the Avs games but I cannot stand the Nuggets. As much as we rag on some of the Avs players - Laperriere, Foote, Floppa, etc, I would much much rather my $$$ go there than to a bunch of vastly overpaid, whining, thug, selfish NBA players. Harsh maybe but true. I'll still catch the Pistons on tv occasionally - and perhaps in the playoffs, but I don't want to pay to see an NBA game. p.s. for those fans in colorado great promo tomorrow - $20 Ducks-Avs tix day of game - wish i could go but no babysitter

Yeah weird - NHL had it listed a Vs also but must have been mistake - I watch all the Avs games anyways in market. Floppa was OK - had a few nice moves, played 19:50, no points. Oh my the fans! The Pepsi Center has been dead save for the Wings games (and that is more of us making noise than them) so from a hockey perspective it was very nice to see. His feet are toast so who knows how long this lasts.... They will make the playoffs because their competition is nashville and vancouver. They've been playing better lately but I don't see them doing much in the playoffs - you NEVER know once you get in though, and that's what Avs fans are hoping. As for the Nucks, how the hell did this team smoke us a number of days ago?? Sure we have irreplaceable injuries - but they looked bad....

Yeah I still follow Sergei too - because I have interest in him as an ex-wing. I'm not sure all of this is "bashing" I think just pointing out that the deal would have been bad for the Wings - with supposedly what the Jacks wanted. I guess I shouldn't dare point out that Lidstrom is not too far behind Sergei as far as veteran years and age....but true we use it as an "excuse" for not wanting Feds here anymore. I was the biggest Federov fan there was - I was DEVSTATED when he left (of his own accord). It kind of felt like a bad break-up or divorce. I wanted him wearing the winged wheel until he retired. But like you said, I got over it and moved on. Would have been OK to have him back for the playoff run, but better to move on and not live in the past (like say my hometown Avalanche).

Yes true. But some people on here will take it that he did it on purpose. I was appalled that Stevie lost some more teeth, but it was an accident and Adam apologized profusely for that... ps. he did get a penalty for that and we won the game....

The Red Wings have had the 2nd best record in the league but been seeded 4th a few times I believe. Once was when the Blues actually won the Pres trophy (then proceeded to suck in the playoffs). '99 or 00? Anyhow we were seeded 4th and had the play the Avs in the second round and lost. It always looks bad when there is a weak division (like the South in the EC) that gets a team seeded third over better teams in better overall divisions....

Essentially the Avs could keep Foote or Blake. And thus they choose Blake, and offered Foote the above deal, which actually wasn't all that bad. In retrospect that was pretty stupid because Foote was a franchise player and Blake was destined to leave for LA anyways when his contract ran out the following year. So yeah, he's a "sub-elite" defenseman who took 1.8 mill more from the Jackets. Thought it was actually a good deal for him to be captain, leader, and all. Feel for the Jackets - they needed to keep this guy for the sake of their franchise. As for Forsberg, the Avs offered him something ludicrous like 1 mill per year - slap in the face - knowing he would leave. But, they had to keep Sakic, such is the cap era.... Footer's not a bad guy, but I thought maybe he'd stick it out in Columbus and give them a chance....

If the competition had been more stiff this year, then yes he might be in jeopardy. However - noone else is even close. Gonchar is only a +3. Who cares how many points he has - he doesn't play defense and the Norris is for the best defenseman. Markov and Pronger are -3s as well. Niedermeyer was on elective vacation half the season - no way. I'll be furious if he doesn't win it just because the competition is so not deserving. True if he misses more than thought - it might put his certain win into doubt - but last I heard he was coming back "mid-March" which is soon.....

Yes that is true. Noone else bothered to help with the offense - yet all that gets remembered is Lilja letting in the goal. I guess if I had to pick between the 2 of them - I'd go with Lilja from what I've seen.....

Too early to call. There are too few points separating the teams, esp 6-10. Remember the bottom teams are all fighting to get in still. Either way if the Wings stay 1 or 2 we should avoid sharks or ducks in the first, obviously. Avs would be a good match-up, but we need to see what happens over the next few weeks......

FYI I just figured out several weeks ago you can stream the games live through Yahoo - usually I do the NHL audio also if it's not televised out of market. The feed was awesome - just like watching it on tv....don't have the link right here but just go to yahoo-sports-nhl next time.

Seriously the guy is so annoying. He disses the Wings unless they smoke someone then he has all kinds of praises. He LOVED the Sharks to death last year and was so shocked and devastated when the Wings beat them - looked like he would blow a fuse on the air. It's always a good thing when he picks against us - which he always does. I especially cannot stand it when he talks about "Nicky" Lidstrom. Get his name right you dumb ass.

Sabres fans were furious when he left for Detroit (technically traded) and won a Cup that season - something he never did with them (although he did single handedly get them to the SCFs). It's just jealousy I guess.
