During the lockout I thought it would be a good idea to let Schneider go. But right now, if the Wings want to make another serious run, I think they need him. Yes I agree he's too expensive, and he's near 40. But Nick needs some experienced vets on the blue line with him. Love Cheli, but he's not going to be playing big mins all season. s***, I could even make a case that we would have won the cup if Schneids doesn't go down. Anyhow, I understand the sentiment to let him go, but who are you going to replace him with? I'm just curious because I don't see anyone out there available that can fill in, in the short term, for Schneider. I'd sign him for one more year - hopefully he'll consider playing for a winning club is worth a few less bucks....

Actually, I thought he was awful last postseason - along with alot of other guys. I had hoped the Wings would get rid of him last summer, but.....they didn't. This post-season though, he was pretty solid. Stats aren't on fire, but pretty good for a role player guy - 15 mins per game, he had 3G 8A +/-2 with a GWG. Plus I thought his all around play was good - well the whole team's was. I guess I've become a Sammy fan - took awhile though. So therefore, NO I would not trade him for LaPointe. Marty is done in Detroit - probably done period, esp rotting in Chicago. edit: oh I forgot he was - let's just say - not stellar on the pp point - but he's not Schneider and he shouldn't of been there all things considered

Agreed. Let the Flames keep him. I really don't see them winning anything either way - they had their chance in a game 7 and blew it. I don't see his personality meshing with the Wings....I'd rather have Dats and Hank.

I HATE smoking and yet everytime the state puts a smoking tax on the ballot in my state, I vote against it. It always passes because I'm in such a minority. I feel my state (Colorado) and probably alot of others rely too heavily on the smoking taxes - it's contradictory for trying to get people to quit - because then they would lose a huge tax base....

This makes me sad even though I haven't lived in Michigan in over 15 years. I remember when there was a mass exodus around the late 70s-early 80's?? The state recovered, but I'm not sure if it can after this recent 'depression'. Anyhow, all these problems go up the ladder to the federal level (outsourcing etc). I don't mean to be a doomsdayist - but every politician in Wash is an idiot, I foresee no change, and I'm really worried for my kids... The whole thing reminds me of the book "Atlas Shrugged" lol, or not. Where the underachieveing idiots and worthless politicians somehow take everything away from those that work hard.....sigh.

The Pistons deserve all the critcism they get for sure. The Spurs would probably have won this year no matter what - but the fact that the commish. tangled with the best looking match-up of the post season makes this one tainted for me. They're dirty and their coach got rewarded for playing dirty imo. Goodie for them that they won - they're boring and noone was watching. Duncan's the only one I like at all - I can't stand the rest of them. Bottom line is, the NBA playoffs totally sucked this year (Pistons losing aside - I'll still watch if it's interesting).

Oh I think he's better than Bourque - and that's no offense to Ray. Nick has the same number of Norris's - maybe more before the end of his career. He has 2 more Cups and a Conn Smythe. And he's still counting..... On a side note: I'm probably biased on Borque because each and every time I visit the Pepsi Center - latest time was last week - I look up at the rafters and ROLTFLMAO when I see his jersey up there...not that it's his fault - he probably thinks it's ridiculous too....

Just the same, if teams such as the above mentioned (Winnepeg, Quebec) are moved, why should teams like the Preds by exemp from moving? Sure I'll feel bad for Preds fans if their team moves, but I also felt bad for North Star and Whaler fans. Also, the Preds would still be the same team - just in Hamilton instead of Nashville. Any rivalry would carry over. I think it's going to be tough to re-sign their players and get FAs though with the impending move...

lol I didn't even realize the NHL award show wasn't even on TV - I was out and turned on Vs when I got home - saw the boxing and just assumed it was over. Wow is that lame. They should cancer their contract right then and there. I know it's just an awards show, but there isn't jack on anyways in mid-June....lame, but I guess I didn't miss anything that everyone else didn't miss also!

Worst NBA post-season ever. The best series was Dallas-Golden State in the first round. The series that could have been the most fun - SA vs the Suns - got totally thrown by Stern. The Pistons were just as boring as everyone else. This finals is the worst I've ever seen. Actually I stopped watching - they should have just given the SPurs the championship and spared the fans this torture. Well actually, Stern did kind of hand them the title. The Spurs may win titles, but bore me to death. I actually liked watching Jordan or the Lakers - this team is just dreadful to watch. The fact that they win is more of an indictment on how bad the NBA sucks more than how good they are. Anyhow, hopefully this is it for this Motley crew......and better days for the NBA....on to baseball now..

Congratulations to Lidstrom - I'm so proud! Congrats to Pavel also. Nothing wrong with the Byng trophy - I don't know why some are bashing it... I cannot believe ESPN ticker doesn't have the winners - I waited through 10 mins of baseball scores for nothing when I got home! Any chance there will be a video of Nick's acceptance posted somewhere???

Never blocks shots? Maybe you should watch the replay of Nick blocking Mike Grier's wrap around in game 6 vs San Jose. I can remember a few pucks hitting him in the face while he's in front of the net and getting stitches. But, I'll s top there because obviously you don't appreciate the fact that the Red Wings have the top defenseman in the world on their team - and one of the best ever. That's pretty sad. Are you sure you are not a jealous Avs fan?

Cheli is the man! Here's to a great season at 45-46. He must have some Gordie Howe in him! I'm tempted to say this will be his last year for sure - but I said that about 5 years ago - lol - so I'll just keep quiet and enjoy.

Unfortunately, you and i are not voters. While what you say is true, I just have a bad feeling it's Nieds year and they will give it to him. Party because they're just tired of giving it to Nick, partly because of the fascination with the Ducks (even before the playoffs). They'll justify it with saying they were voting for the intangibles - what he means to his team, blah blah blah. Anyhow I hope I'm wrong. We all know who the best defenseman was...

I don't know, I have a bad feeling about this one. Nick was hands down the best D-man in the regular season. But things are just going Nieds way. Remember Nick won the Cup, Smythe and Norris all in one year...I just have a suspicion the voters don't want to give it to Nick again - even though he clearly deserves it...

I think it's most forums. I never joined a Ducks board, but I went over there a few times during the series, esp after the Homer hit, and it was disgraceful. I wouldn't hold that against Ducks fans though - who knows who's posting that stuff??
