    Congrats to the Ducks

Losing this series irks me too. But you can't fault the Ducks for taking advantage of our collossal mistake in game 5 - that really sealed the series right there. And also, you have to admit if it wasn't for our lucky goal in game 4 vs the Sharks, we'd be having a different discussion too. It might take a few days to see all of this clearly for many of us, but the Wings will move on...

    Chelios not shaking hands . . .

Like I said above - as long as he's wearing a Red Wings uniform - he has to do the handshake. If he's on the street and he wants to dis them, fine. But he's acting on behalf of more than just himself. I'd still like to hear what he has to say....

    Congrats to the Ducks

The Sabres didn't show up - pretty much for most of the playoffs. The Wings could have easliy won the Cup this year too, in fact either of the 3 teams remaining as of last night had/have a good chance. No matter how dirty you think the DUcks are, it doesn't mean they don't have a chance to win. I personally think they take way too many penalties, and later in this series, we did not make them pay for that. I think the Sens will, and that's why I'm picking them. Plus, I'll admit our series took a bigger toll on them than the Sens ECF series. Sens in 6.

    Congrats to the Ducks

OK they won the series fair and square - so congratulations. I think most of us a big enough to say/sdmit that. The only one I really don't like is Pronger - but he's just a rent-a-duck for their cup run anyways. I've got no problem with Selanne - pretty nice guy, Getzlaf, Giguere - he played great. That was a great WCF - hopefully our young guys will learn from this. These were the two best teams in the West - maybe the NHL - and we came up just short - happens. Let's not trash the Duck fans though - good luck in the finals. I've always kind of liked the Sens, so I'll probably root for them. Plus the fact that this is the third Canadian team in a row that's in the SCF - and I think this is the best one of the three....

    Chelios not shaking hands . . .

I have alot of respect for Cheli, but he should have gone through the hand shake (skip Pronger if you want). Homer shook the goon's hand, afterall. I'm hearing alot of speculation on this - the radio guys aren't sure if he did or didn't - I guess we'll have to wait and hear from Cheli himself. If he has some legit excuse - I hope he lets us know - or apologizes - I'd accept that. While some of you are diminishing the hand-shake tradition - it's one cool thing the NHL does that no other sport has. And, imo, if you are wearing a Red Wings uniform, you are representing the team and organization - so shake their damn hands.

    Lilja deserves props

Except for a few angry posters right after the game, I think everyone here supports Lilja. There are alot of other major reasons we lost - not to list them - but Lilja's pass should be at the bottom of the list...

    Bertuzzi Update (1:37pm): Game-time decision

Well I never like to see anyone hurt, so I hope he's OK. BUT, he's not helping us enough for it to matter. I keep seeing "he's getting better every game" but that's not good enough in an elimination game of the WCF. I have to agree with Draperfan - he's more of a hindrance than a help right now. I also agree with Brett Hull's analysis - he's not being aggressive enough in front of the net.

    Playoff OT games at home

I was thinking the exact same thing when it went into OT. Dunno, but the record is not good. I cannot even remember the last playoff game we won in OT at the Joe - anyone? I'll look too.

    Best Players for the Ducks

Giguere by a landslide. I think alot of our shot selections have sucked the past few games. But nonetheless the guy got shelled and yanked in game 3 and has been outstanding ever since. He lets in one of those many shots in either game and it's over....

    Dear Wings,

Anyone remember Mathieu Schneider? Well the PP unit sure does and they sorely miss him. I think we've overlooked his importance to this teams' D.

The NHL is a piece of crap

I have a long list of complaints about the NHL and Bettman. But it has nothing to do with the game played tonight imo. So save it for the offseason....

    B.S. call...

You cannot blame this on one B.S call - legit or not. I have one thing to add: Mathieu Schneider. We've gotten by on our PP without him so far - but I think the last two games are evidence that it's caught up to us. How many times did the point man miss the pass back or let it go out of the zone? Lidstrom can only be in so many places at one time. Sammy is trying, but we're not where we need to be on the PP obviously right now. Please do not look to the refs for excuses tonight.

    WCF Post-GAME 5 (5/20): Ducks 2, Red Wings 1 (OT)

I didn't check out the boxscore, but Giggy should have been the #1 star imo - coming from a Wings fan. No way that game should have been 1-0 at the end. Even with the bad game 3, I'd give him the MVP of the series for the Ducks right now.

I'm sick of all the pessimism

I'm pretty heartbroken about this loss - but that could only be so because I love the Wings so much. I'm certainly not throwing in the towel - but no matter what happens - this season was a phenomenal success imo. 1. My attitude the past several years has been WCF or bust. Some might say that's setting my standards too low - but it's been 5 years since we've made it this far, and I expect the perennial top seeded team to at least put up a fight in the WDF- and they have. 2. This team tries hard and plays hard every game. Can you ask more as a fan? I've felt in the past several years maybe we didn't give our best effort = very frustrating as a fan. But I really feel this team has given it their all - so no matter what the outcome - I can't expect more than that. 3. In this new era of the salary cap (ugh).I feel the WIngs organization has done a great job getting a good mix of players in here. I wasn't so sure how I would feel about the team after Yzerman and Shanny left. But I love this team just as much - andI'm excited for the future. Let's hope the WIngs continue to play like they have - and the Ducks feel some pressure here. It's going to be hard to beat this team 3 times in a row....

    WCF Post-GAME 5 (5/20): Ducks 2, Red Wings 1 (OT)

Ditto - I also thought 7. I figured we'd win today - them on Tues - and right back to the Joe. Might not happen exactly that way - but still very probable... Not true- I can stand here and say the Ducks diddeserve to win. We did it in game 4 vs SJ when they let us hang around. It was only 1-0 on the scoreboard, they're a good team, and they didn't give up. Any team that would have given up in the third period has been golfing for two months already.

    WCF Post-GAME 5 (5/20): Ducks 2, Red Wings 1 (OT)

Well the Wings played well - but not well enough to win. Same thing we did to the Sharks comes back at us. We let a good team hang around too long... No blaming Lilja or Hasek. As soon as we let the puck in at the end of the game - you had to give a big edge to the Ducks. We didn't bury any of our PP chances. Tough break. We've played two pretty good games and lost both. You never know what will happen in game 6. This has been a great playoff ride - I don't know what's going to happen - but I'm proud of this team no matter what. Here's to a game 7!

Lidstrom is a cut above Pronger/Niedermayer

What I call dominating is a +/- 40 for Nick. Pronger is +27 which is pretty impressive and Scott's +6. Nick was in the penalty box alot less too. Anyhow, I don't see any way Nick doesn't win again looking at the numbers. I hope Niedermeyer is runner up though - Pronger isn't worthy of even that imo. But too bad character doesn't count into the equation. I know - Sheldon Souray has 62 points also - but he's a whopping -28. That means the dude's playing offense and ignores his defensive duties. I hate it when these types of guys are even considered.

    Neidermayer roughed up?

Well you live in Florida - so Ducks coverage is not their top priority (nor hockey at all). Most of the media analysts picked the Ducks to win this series - go watch Melrose clips on ESPN.com. They love the Ducks - so I don't think you can cry about your team not getting enough love... At least the Ducks got something right by signing Niedermayer - I have alot of respect for him as a player. You won't see him head hunting anyone out there. Hurt? I doubt it - he's just had a few bad games - and give the Wings some credit too.

    Pronger Speaks

Coincidence that Burke is defending another dirty blow? I think not. It's his job of course to defend his players - he defended the indefensible when Bert laid his punch. So of course he's not going to take repsonsibility for this one. I think Pronger is a total A-hole too; his comments only reinforce this. Sad thing is, I used to really enjoy watching him play when he was a Blue. He is a damn good defenseman - which makes it all the more ridiculous that he needs to play dirty - he doesn't need to do that to be good. Oh well, may the best team win - the WINGS!

Cool Datsyuk photos from the Anaheim last trip

Easier - but jet-lag is jet-lag, esp when you're jumping time zones... Very nice website and pictures...someone really loves Datsyuk

    We WILL win game 5.

He has good streaks and bad streaks. I have to say he totally sucked when he was here in Denver - which I enjoyed as a non-Avs fan. However, between him and Kariya, Teemu was just way cooler - I thought Paul was kind of a jerk here in Denver. Anyhow, you got the better one back imo, and although I still think the Wings are gonna win this thing - if you quackers squeak by - he's one of the Ducks I would be OK w lifting the Cup.... Save for the Sens standing in the way of course, but does anyone watching these two series not see that the West teams are better??? Emry vs Hasek or Giguere: I'll take either of the former two...

What I Realized From Game 4

Wings will be fine at home. And they get two days rest. The Ducks were desparate to win that hockey game - I thought we outplayed them for the most part - and those are positives to bring to game 5. I think Babs, Hasek and the boys will be ready to roll on Sunday at home...looking forward to it.
  24. RockyMountainWingGal

    Bertuzzi

When you add everything up last night, he was more negative than positive. I wish that weren't true - but his puck handling isn't great. He should not be making those kinds of mistakes. Great that he got the goal - but giving up that first one really set the tone of the game imo. Dunno what to say, Babs will play him his 10 min or so per game. I am hoping he keeps getting better - he played well in game 3 (everyone did) - but it's a slow process.

    Post-GAME 4 (5/17): Ducks 5, Red Wings 3

Well one positive I can take from the game (OK there were several) but this one came to mind: In each of our three series - we get better as the series goes on, and the opponents go the other way. I'm not thinking that the Ducks will do so - but clearly at this point we are playing like the better hockey team. As long as the Wings continue to do so, the Ducks look off their game (w or w/o Pronger). If they keep giving us PPs (and they will) we just need to bury them and we'll be fine.
