God it's hard watching the Sens. The first reviewed goal would have been waived off for the 29 other teams in the league. Then amazingly the Pens are on the PP - again - couldn't quite get away with having a second one waived in on one game = just too obvious. My amusement of the day were the Chi fans and media bitching about "where is Hossa"? lol-chickens coming home to roost

Yes the Sens are terrible. They're like an AHL team. Cheap way to rack up a bunch of playoff points. It must be good to be in the East.

Fans more paranoid than ours should be the Sharks fans handsdown. If Lidstrom flipped a goal into our own net in OT of a playoff game - I'd contemplate the samurai seppuku

O'Reilly claimed on Denver radio today the puck may have come within a "hair" of his stick. I'm not sure it even touched it. As for Boyle - just bad luck on his part. How about Nabokov - hasn't been very good this series. Yes he stopped all whopping 17 shots last night, but why was he sleeping in OT - O'Reilly wasn't that far away? I'd say at least equally to blame.....

No Hossa was curse in the end. To answer the OP's question: yes we should have kept Sammy but hindsight. The only things really missing from the 08 run are Sammy and Huds, oh and Drake..... JWill doesn't cut it - but I'm liking Abby to permanently replace him...

Yeah it is the only explanation - the Sharks are cursed. Is the arena built on an old native American burial ground or something? Hang in there. I am trying to remember what I felt like early -mid-90s when I wasn't sure if the Wings would ever break through. Then they finally did. You might have to wait a few more years but it will happen someday. At least if the team gets eliminated early this time, there will be no hesitation whatsoever about blowing up the team. Watching that game reminded me of some of the Wings PO series - outshoot the opponents almost 3:1, have the puck the whole time, but yet come up empty - been there...

Wings have had some very tough series losses (Ducks 2003) but still we have come back and won enough that those things all even out. I think Coffey scored on his own net for us circa mid-90s. Last time I recall a Wings player doing that - and he was promptly shipped out of town in the off season....

They choke away games on home ice just as easily as anywhere. My point is that even if both teams get eliminated (please Wings keep fighting) the Sharks will always be the bigger chokers. The Wings have proven we are winners the past several years alone. 3 trips in a row to the WCF - 2 to the SCF - 1 Cup. We won a tough game 7 last year. This may (or may not) be our year but the Wings haven't even come close to the chokejobs the team from SJ does. Imagine if they go down to the 8th seed as the 1 seed two years in a row (and the Avs ain't no Ducks folks). I watched the Wings back in the dark days - we've come up short plenty - but nothing close to that.

Just when I think the Wings were the biggest chokers of the day.....the Sharks come to the rescue. Did they just score on them selves that last goal? Anderson was hot - I'll give them that. But their fate is looking worse than ours. At least the Wings are playing a higher seed without home ice AND we have at least gone deep the last three years, if nothing else. Well at least when the Wings put in a s***ty effort I can look forward to watching SJ choke...

Howard = I like the kid and I want to see him succeed. Not a really good showing so far. He needs to be spectacular in game 4 or I think we will see Oz. Really this team looks like the January Red Wings not the March Red Wings. If they continue to play like the s*** they have, the goalie won't matter. I'm expecting 60 full mins of effort on Tuesday, not the 20 from Game 1 or today or the 40 from game 2 - we need 60 to turn this series around....

The Wings didn't deserve to win today. Phx has put together a bunch of retreads (Jovo, Aucoin, Vrbata, Wolski, even Bryzgalov) that are playing with grit and passion. I give them credit where it is due because they should on paper be completely outmatched in this series (except in goal) - but haven't been. Someone on the Red Wings need to step up besides the Z-Flip line. You cannot win a series with one top scoring line. I love Nick but he and the rest of the D have not been great this series thus far - they have to be much better. Howard needs to buckle down. I like that he is getting a chance - but 3-4-4 GA is not going to cut it in the POs..... Hope this all turns around Tuesday - still think we can win this series - someone hit the "switch" Tuesday night please....Go Wings.

Most hockey players are great guys off the ice. I've even heard this about Claude Lemieux but not sure I believe that one - he was imo the biggest ass-hole to play the game on ice. In general I have no problem with Doan. The Yotes haven't been in the playoffs for what - 8 years? - and he makes a good leader for their team. However, since we are in a war with his team - I want to crush him right now. Let's put together a few more 7 goal games and see what his face looks like then....

^^^ This. Good post. I watch alot of the Sharks since I'm close to the West coast. I really thought they'd lucked out drawing the Avs this year and would easily take care of business. They are lucky as s*** to be tied 1-1. That penalty in OT on Foote was lame - they got that one handed to them. As the above poster stated, JT, Marleau and Heatley area all playoff frauds. I wouldn't want any of them on my team. I used to really like Marleau too but his lack of clutch in the post season kind of soured me. Nabokov - kind of like the guy - but just not a good PO goalie. Yes it would be good to get Todd back in Detroit. Obviously though the losing has nothing to do with Wilson or Todd - it's the cast of characters. I suspect they will pull out round 1 only by virtue of playing such an inferior opponent - but I don't see them making it out of the West.... If this series goes 6 - which it is looking like - I might have to go to game 6 here in Denver and taunt the Sharks - lol.

I love Fil - he is one of my favorite Wings right now. Yes I've spent quite a bit of time defending him the last few years so I'm glad people are starting to warm up to him. He's been nothing but solid in the playoffs for the past 3 years. The Avs fans here (those that pay attention)were drooling over catching him as an RFA last year so glad that didn't happen. He's young too so I think he will get better. Go Flip! Go Wings!

Biggest loser last night = Sharks. All the pressure of going out early the last several years. Home ice. Number one seed, again. (curse?) Playing a very marginal 8th seed - easily the weakest link of the West PO teams (this ain't the Ducks folks). Anderson has been very human and beatable since the Olympic break. WTF? Yeah the Wings lost as well - but Phx is a better team than the Avs, that was their first PO game on home ice in years, and at least we have gone deep the last three seasons and won something....not that I am excusing the Wings, but the SJ loss is much worse. Any Sharks fans here? Maybe we should start a suicide watch...

That is the correct word to describe what one feels watching Williams through the tube. Williams has been just plain useless since he came back from his injury. He doesn't add anything to the team, he doesn't make plays. He should NOT be on the PP - but Babcock has this history of placing odd people out there on the PPs... Willy is also surely gone next year - he was a one year fill in. However, in no way is Williams going to make or break the Wings PO run. When the team plays poorly like last night, it is easy to single out a struggling 4th liner, but I would ask where were all the top line guys?? Hard to spot them last night out there on the ice. I would advocate for putting in Abdelkader for a number of reasons: he was good in the POs last year, he provides energy, and even if it doesn't work out he is an upgrade over Willy and why not take the gamble - the odds of payoff on this are pretty good.

I chose not to pay for it since I have a problem paying a league that needs fans and exposure. Why should I not get to choose which team I want to see play? - I already pay near $100 per month for Directv - don't feel like adding another $175 or whatever it is. In the good old "early" days of satellite you just beamed your dish (the whole huge thing in your backyard) towards Detroit and watched whatever you wanted. Then some FCC bureaucrats thought we viewers were having too much fun/freedom. Anyhow I just stream for free if the Wings are not on tv. I cannot watch many of the games anyways since they start at 5pm my time - yet another reason to not purchase CI.
