I totally agree with this - which is another reason they won't play a rematch. The BCS will not wind up with a clear champion. But also imagine if USC beats OSU (not going to happen), then every team has one loss. Michigan could claim a share of the title IF they win their bowl game, as could every other one loss team (happened to USC in '04).

Conference winning doesn't factor that much into the BCS - especially when the top two teams are in the same conference, ony one will win. Plus the Pac ten sucks, Michigan would win that conference. As far as Fla and Ark, they are ranked #4-5, I don't see any way they could jump up to number 2. That's one of the problems with the BCS, you are kind of stigma'd with your initial ranking - and leapfrogging teams in front of you with the same record is almost impossible. Arkansas got smoked by USC by the way. We all know that you don't like Michigan, so you are trying to make a case for any other team to be #2. I have already said I don't think there should be a rematch - but I also don't think Michigan should get demoted just because of that. Once again this year, BCS is BS.

His, "we'd win if we played again" was a little over the top, but he did also admit they blew their chance and didn't necessarily deserve a rematch. He also admitted if it was the other way around, HE wouldn't want a rematch, so I think that's fair. I actually thought he was kind of funny, compared to Henne. Smith's interview was nice - quality guy. I think the worst I've seen was Matt Leinhart last year, when he refused to congratulate Vince Young and Texas - what a jerk. Lloyd was upset during the game, as all coaches are when their team gets a penalty. I think he was fair afterwards, he said twice he had the utmost respect for this officiating crew, and if they made the call it must have been right. He did say later, however, he was unclear about the rule of in pocket/out-of-pocket. As long as he didn;'t whine about the call itself. I'm cool - he should be mad at Crable for that (although I don't think it was intentional).

USC's loss was to Oregon State, an unranked team. Michigan lost to the #1 team, in what was a close game in the end. If USC beats ND, both teams would have beaten them, and Michigan would have done it on the road. Don't get me wrong, I think USC is a very good team - worthy of their #3 ranking. It's just hard to say they're better than Michigan when you add things up. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with OSU playing USC (if they win out), BUT still have Michigan ranked #2. That would mean the #1, #3 teams play, and the #2, #4 teams play. They would have to come up with an excuse for not allowing two teams to re-match - which they haven't had to deal with yet. It's all a big mess because of the BCS - the pollsters will have to find a way to make USC #2, even if they didn't think it were so - fuc*ed up. Just think if we were still locked into the pre-BCS bowl system, OSU would be playing USC anyways!

Yes but imagine living somewhere where all of your teams suck all of the time, Philly? I really thought either the Tigers or Michigan would come through - oh well. Not sure about rematch either. I think it's important for Michigan to win big in their bowl game - then they will surely wind up #2, assuming OSU wins. There is no good way for a rematch to play out: IF Michigan were to beat OSU in Arizona, that would mean each team was 12-1, with the loss to one another. I think OSU would at least share the NC in that scenario. Worst case is two losses to OSU in one season, something I don't think I would risk! Rose Bowl worries me because of our dismal record there. USC worries me too, because we suck against them. I'd like to play Cal maybe in the Rose.......Rutgers losing 3-20 as we speak.

It's legit - because he went to school there to get his masters and was an assistant coach - therefore he was a Buckeye for a period of his life. Great game - glad it lived up the hype. I'm sorry we came up just a bit short. Clearly, we couldn't stop Smith and his offense and I really thought our D would fare much better. But give credit to them - they defended their own turf (crappy turf if I may say). Henne was shaky at times, but he gave it his best shot. I'm sorry for Lloyd Carr - I would have liked to see him get a W. Congrats to the Buckeyes - Smith was awesome, he has my Heisman vote. I see no way any other team beats them in the NC game. On to the Bowl game - a must win for UM - even more so than today I believe. Let's see how the rest of the season for the other teams pans out.

MSU got hosed by the official tonight vs. Maryland. wtf kind of calls were those in the finals minute? Failed to call an obvious shot clock violation vs MD and then an offensive foul on State - Izzo was furious. Early in the season, they'll be OK. I too am ready for UM basketball to get back into the thick of things. How long do we have to pay for Webber's mistake years ago? enough is enough. Even though I'm a rabid Michigan fan, I grew up watching MSU basketball - folks had season tickets to the fieldhouse! Judd Heathcoat even used to give me rides home from high school occasionally!

We all have to realize that the jerks always come out of the woodworks in times like this, making the rest of their fans look bad. Who knows, maybe they're not even real Spartans? What did the guy ever do to piss them off but beat them fair and square? Incidently, George Perles was on WXYT today - very nice interview. Apparently, him and Bo were fairly chummy and their Florida wintering abodes were close-by, leading to seasonal get-togethers. On another note, I want to preemtively congratulate Michigan on a fabulous season, regardless of tomorrow's outcome. At best we're 12-0, worst 11-1. Particularly to Lloyd Carr, for taking the initiative after some criticism last year and making some changes that have his team back among the elite few in college football. I'll be rooting hard for the Maize and Blue tomorrow - here's hoping for a classic, particularly in memory of Bo.
-
I happened to be listening to WXYT over the internet - you could tell by the tone of their voices, the guys knew he had died, but they said they couldn't "officially" tell us.
-
I am in shock right now - I just heard tha Bo Schembechler died. I heard awhile ago he was in critical condition. I think the stress of this week - all the interviews etc. took a toll on the old man. I hope everyone on both sides pays their respect to Bo tomorrow - what awful timing for both teams. I am sorry for both Carr, Tressell, and all the players that he passed away before the big game. May he rest in peace. I'm still in shock - this changes everything for me about the game tomorrow. I am sorry for his family. The whole UM nationwide family grieve with you.
-
I have to say some of the things the OSU fans do are in poor taste. AKA the "Dead Schembechler" thing is not all that funny imo, especially in light of the fact that the guy has heart problems and could really die soon. Also, the I" hate Michigan rally" wtf? How about a "Go OSU" rally instead. Yeah I know it's only a few of many fans making a bad name for everyone, but it's still obnoxious. I went to a UM game in Columbus years ago - it wasn't too bad except for having some beer thrown on me at some point. I wouldn't say people were friendly though. I've been to away games at Iowa, Notre Dame, Washington, and of course MSU - and everyone's been very friendly. Most people realize it's just a football game. I hope fans of both teams realize that too. I wouldn't want to be in Columbus this weekend at all.
-
Now wait a minute - I went to school at Michigan and I'd like to think I got in on my own merit. I, however, don't see any reason why people who live in Michigan can't cheer for them to win, even if they didn't go to school there. My husband is a UM fan (if you can really call him a fan of any sport), because he from the A2 area - but he didn't go to school there. I don't know where the "superiority" thing comes in. Since I lived in East Lansing, I have no problem cheering for the Spartans, when convenient of course. I'll be most of the state of Ohio are OSU fans - wait didn't all Ohioans go to OSU.... We have the opposite issue in Colorado - nobody here supports the damn football team (yes they suck but this has been going on for years). They don't sell out, are rarely televised locally, and are trash talked by the media (OK somtimes they deserve it). I think Denver needs more CU fans even if they didn't go to school there - it's pretty hard to be one though when you can't even see the games.
-
This is why no Spartans are coming to my house next Saturday to watch the game. If OSU and MSU were playing ranked #1 and 2- vying for a birth in the NC game, I would surely root for the Spartans - even have a few spare Sparty shirts I could wear (of course I'll be long dead before this ever happens ). Incidently, the way it looks right now, if both UM and OSU win their bowl games I think they should be 1-2 in the polls (I don't see how any of the few 1 loss teams remaining could leap over a 1 loss UM or OSU). It's OK with me - it works in our system and it's how most successful NFL QBs play. I think guys like Michael Vick are way overrated, imo. I'd take an immobile guy like Manning who can pass like Superman any day over a scrambler. Leave that to the RBs. lol. Maybe I should send him an Avalanche jersey for the Wings next encounter with them.
-
Come on people - Rutgers played the game of their life last night, but the NC game? Either OSU or UM would crush them. I'm not against it for just that reason - but I don't think it would be a great game by any means.
-
Louisville losing is terrible for OSU and UM - an almost automatic title for one of those teams. I would much rather play a big east team than a Texas, Florida, USC a BCS bowl game.
-
Maybe if he was refering to Maurice Clarrett, both UM and OSU fans would have no problem with that.
-
I totally agree with this. If the game is goes down to the wire - or OT - I don't see how a one loss UM or OSU team can be any lower than other one loss teams - regardless of the time of year. I don't think it would happen purely for TV ratings reasons - the BCS does not want two teams playing each other twice in a row. Let alone two teams from the Midwest. (OMG that would be like that horrible World Series match-up they just had between 2 midwest teams ).

2006 World Series: Tigers & Cardinals
RockyMountainWingGal replied to BlakChamber's topic in Other Sports
I think most of us would like to keep him, but since he needs to be resigned, trade options have been in the news. I was downtown Detroit last night, and it was so sad - I was praying that the Tigers would be playing game 6 while I was in town. I still proudly wore my combo UM and Tigers gear. I also want to thank the Tigers also for such an incredible ride - most excited I've been about baseball in 20 years. Sadly they did not deserve to win the WS - congrats to the Cardinals (arrrghh). Maybe this taste of success will be good for all the young players. Here's to good years and good times ahead. The young guys have paid their dues. I feel really bad for guys like Rogers - that might have been his window of opportunity to shine. Anyhow, I'm now looking forward to baseball next year, something I haven't said for a very, very long time. -

Well that was a heartbreaker last night . It's not over til it's over, but the magic in the Tigers has disappeared. A combination of bad luck, errors, and freak occurances seems to be plagueing them. I haven't enjoyed baseball this much in 20 years, so for that I am thankful to the Tigers not matter what. Robertson and Bonderman pitched well enough to win both those games, but the Tigers don't have any solutions with the bats. Here's hoping we can at least bring it back to Detroit - they will need their A game and some long lost luck - but I belive it can happen! -

It's supposed to rain non stop in St Louis through Friday. on top of what they have already, we have a severe weather system here in Denver that is blowing that way for the next few days too. I don't see any way they are going to get one, let alone 2 games in before the weekend. Plus, they are trying to schedule for TV time of 8:35 EST - which makes hard rain even more likely. Detroit isn't supposed to be much better this weekend from the weather channel - but those of you that live there probably know what's up better. This sucks for me because I was going to go dt Detroit to watch the game somewhere Sat night when I'm in town - but that's doubtful now. IMO, this is why the World Series need to be played alot earlier. Baseball at the end of October just isn't meant to be. I personally think they should shorten the season by a few games, but the baseball purists think I'm a heathen - lol. -

Unfortunately, last nights Tigers looked like the team that played KC several weeks ago, and not the team that played the Yanks and As. I thought Nate was OK - 2 runs in a WS game isn't that bad - we lost because our run total was a big fat 0. Go Bonderman tonight - if tonight happens. Please get some hits for god's sake. -

OK now I really want to smoke the Cards. Before last night, I had nothing against them - in fact I like the Cards much more than alot of other teams (cough Yanks, Mets). But now all this "Kenny is cheating" stuff is pissing me off. To be fair, it's mostly the media. But Larussa pretty much accused him of cheating during his press conference today - my interpretation of it at least. The guy smokes the Cards for 8 innings, and all anyone talks about is some sh*& on his hand. MLB has issues: we won't test any of our players rigorously for steroids, growth hormone, or other drugs, but some freakin' pine tar on you palm will get your a$$ suspended - paaleese. Think Leyland will be eying the pitching hand of the Cards the next three games? Here's looking forward to a series clinching game 6 with Rogers on the mound shutting the Cards out before the home crowd again. -
I'll take a 20-6 win over Iowa - nothing fancy today. I love how the espn gamenight crew highlights and says "Michigan rolls" over Iowa. For those of us who saw the game - that was definitely not a roll - lol. I'm flying in for the homecoming game vs. Northwestern next weekend - save some good weather for me please! After today, I think I can safely say I'm looking forward to a UM-OSU classic.

Well all I can say is go Rogers! I have faith that the old man can pitch us into a 1-1 series tie. Ugle debacle tonight - I could chalk it up to a number of things - but i'll just wait until tomorrow night. Tiger cannot waste this opportunity of a lifetime! -
OMG could the NLCS drag on any longer? two rain outs, and the inevitable game 7 between these two teams. Tonights game will obviously be the most exciting since there will actually be closure and we'll find out who the opponent is for the WS. I don't feel real strongly about it, but the Cardinals would be my choice. I have to consider all the possibilites and I don't think I could stomach losing to the Mets.
