    College Football

Being ranked high is usually a curse for the Wolverines. (Sans 1997). It's like having a target on your back. I'd rather hang around lower and let all the higher ranked teams lose............ btw, ranking system and BCS are BS

Hehe - pleasantly surprised by the whoopin' of the Irish. I really thought Bg Blue could win, but thought it would a tough game, last minute field goal kind of affair. I better revel in this while I can - how often do you lay 47 against ND at their house??? Really didn't get a feel for the Michigan team the first two games vs. weak opponents - they look great. However the rest of the season plays out, this game will stick out! Loved the look on Quinn's face on the bench :HUH? [attachmentid=224]

Well I'm heartbroken that Roddick lost. Not unexpected - good match actually, Andy was in there for sets 2 and 3 - if he could have gotten over the hump and broken on of his 4 breakpoints there late in the third, who knows...... I think he's closer, if he keeps working on his game with Conners, he might have a shot - needs some work at the net. Still love the guy - I'm proud he got his act together and is playing good tennis - made it to the US open finals, I hope next year is good for him - and for his fans. What can you say about Federer - yup he might be the best ever - approaching that at least. Fun to watch, likable guy, it's just kind of boring that nobody can really challenge him right now. Good rivalries make it fun for the fans - I'm to the point where if it's Federer vs. fill in the blank, I might as well not watch. Would like some competition out there....guy has to be human after all, right?

Actually, plenty of the men yell too. SInce it's not as high pitched you tend to not notice it as much. Both Hewitt and Roddick were grunting pretty loud out there the other night. There's a few dudes on the tour that shriek pretty loud, but heir names aren't coming to me (anyone?). It doesn't really bother me - I figure they're out there wacking the ball harder than I could ever imagine, and I'm sitting here on my couch watching, so I should just enjoy and not be annoyed by it.............

Interesting match last night - but alas, as expected, Federer storms in to the semis once again. Blake's going to have to toughen up mentally - that was just too sad to watch him give up in the second set. Have no idea how he won the third - maybe Roger was bored and needed some excitement???? Anyhow, if Roddick can pull through tonight, I think he has a shot at Federer. Andy won't miss some of the opportunities Blake fanned on, and his serve is much more wicked....

Blake's going to need to play the best game of his life - and he's going to need a little help from Federer.... I'll be rooting for him bigtime through my TV tonight!

Sorry, not this time! Lleyton looked really outmatched tonight. Roddick was unbelievable. Best tennis I've seen from him in a few years - Conners magic. I actually think he has a shot..... Seroiusly though, sorry your boy lost. Even though Lleyton's a turkey sometimes, I kind of have always liked him, he's really fun to watch, and I would have rooted for him if he wasn't playing Andy.....

Detroit Shock back in the WNBA Finals

I dunno - doesn't he love living in the Detroit area? Seems like the perfect job for him. BTW, did they win? I probably missed it this weekend. Oh well, don't watch much of the WNBA either, although I do enjoy college women's basketball. Suggestion: try tennis if your'e looking for a women's sport that's fun to watch! Lots of interesting personalities, and more fun than the men to watch imo (not as many serve and aces).......

Yeah I know how you feel - I've been watching Andre his whole career - heck he's close to my age! I cried when he lost the other night.... although it was not unexpected with his sore back - 21 years of hard courts! The match vs Marcos Bag. the other night was a classic - watched the whole thing! Never was a big Sampras fan. Nothing personal against the guy, but Agassi's on-court play excited me much more, and well....Pete is boring! Here's hoping Andre snags McEnroe's job! Ha-ha! Routing for Roddick! He's playing well but tough times ahead. Dark horse = Marat Safin, love to watch this guy play. Women's, of who is left, always hoping for Davenport, who knows. I don't like Henin-Hardenne or Mauresmo, so I might be doomed. Would also like to see Sharapova in the finals........... US open TV schedule

    Shanahan seeking a 2-yr deal at $5M/season

Agreed. Mlive isn't the most reliable source. I'll go with the DetNews on that one. I'm for keeping Shanny but 4 mill ain't gonna happen. Now that Stevie is gone - he may think more about leaving. I'm sure he's seeing how close the other offers are. My guess is that he won't bolt unless they are significantly more.

    Wimbledon 2006

You had to go ahead and jinx the ladie's side, didn't you? I was thinking about going into the mountains this weekend - now I'm definite - I can't stomach a Henin-Mauresmo match - can both of them lose? I'll also congratulate Federer prematurely.......

    Detroit Pistons off-season thread

No, he's not worth 60 mill - but as a fan - I have a right to be po'd at him. You can't compare multimillion dollar salaries for playing basketball to the rest of us making peanuts compared to that. I'm still glad he won a title with us, but his legacy is very tarnished in my eyes. Oh, and he bolted to a division rival - that kind of puts salt on the wounds. No sympathy here from this fan.

Would have been a great pick up in addition to keeping B. Wallace. But as a replacement he ain't gonna cut it. Garnett rumors are abundant on the national sports radio circuit - but I see no way they could financially swing that - unless Kevin is detemined to play in Detroit and would give up salary (how hard should I laugh - an NBA player sacrificing salary )

The Pistons deal was fair imo. It would have made Ben the highest paid player on the team - and probably not the most valuable one. He had a good thing going in Detroit - Dumars gave him the opportunity to be the star that he is - gave him a great deal when noone else wanted him - now he walks w/o even trying to negotiate with the Pistons. Ben Wallace was the most popular athlete in town - aside from Stevie Y of course - he had a good thing going here. That legacy just died. I knew there was a reason I always liked hockey players farrrrrrr more than NBA players.

    Wimbledon 2006

Aussie - you're making me sad with your Agassi eulogy. I pretty much expected retirement soon anyhow - but boy will I miss watching him play - someone I always wholeheartedly cheered for. Not many Americans on the circuit these days. I have become attached to Roddick and believe he has the stuff to be a multi-slam winner, but he seems to keep underachieving? I hope he has an Agassi-like comeback one of these days. Anyhow, I'll get to see a fair number of these matches in the mornings Women's, I'll pull for Sharapova to reach the finals. The Williams sisters disappoint me with their lack of dedication to training, etc. They have the stuff to smoke everyone, but not the will anymore. Sadly, the tennis tour in general is not too exciting these days - here's hoping for some new & vibrant faces soon.

Detroit Pistons (& NBA) Playoff Thread

This is what really annoys me about D. Wade. He's a great player - the Heat deserve the title, he deserved the MVP, but he is NOT Michael Jordan. He's not Magic either, or Bird, etc etc. The guy had some incredible games this post-season, and a few bad ones. Let him have his 15 min of fame but stop with the MJ references. Chauncy was the finals MVP two years ago - but did we call start comparing him to MJ? No, and rightfully so. Yup the NBA is the worst of the 4 major sports when it comes to officiating. I'll have to remember that next hockey season when I get mad at the refs. Kicking Stackhouse out of game 5 for fouling Shaq was ludicrous - they should be embarassed. Dallas still has no excuse for not putting the Heat away - but they didn't need any help from the NBA in losing. At least when the refs botched the "no-goal" for Carolina the other night, they tried to make the right call - they just made a mistake. The NBA officials are openly biases and they don't even care - I'm convinced they decide who they're going to call fouls on before the game (or get orders from Stern). Oh well, enough of that season - I'm glad to put it behind me.

    2006 French Open

Only match I saw this whole tourney. Men's final started at 7am my time - so I caught it after the first set. Wouldn't you know when I'm actually rooting for Roger Federer to win - he doesn't. Whenever he plays Roddick, or anyone else for that matter, and I root his opponent, Federer crushes him. Nothing personal against Nadal - just like Federer better. Although watching Henin-Hardenne play is kind of fun - I don't really care for her either. Esp. after the Aussie Open stunt. Glad I didn't watch. Wimbledon - should get to see more matches.

    2006 French Open

I guess because I didn't want to put the French guy up there since it was the French I was making fun of with their own quote....right back at them. So I just picked Tim - no good reason really....but to correct myself: "Follow, but follow only if ye be men of valor! For the entrance to this cave is guarded by a creature so fowl, so cruel that no man yet has fought with it and lived. Bones of four fifty men lie strewn about its lair! So, brave knights, if you do doubt your courage, or your strength, come nay further, for death awaits you all . . . with nasty big pointy teeth!"

Why is soccer the only sport.....

Soccer is big everywhere in the world except for here in the USA. And that's OK - we tend to focus on American style "football", baseball, and basketball. And don't try to convince me that soccer is the up and coming sport in the USA because I have been hearing that for over 20 years. They have thier die-hard fans here just like hockey does. For me soccer is something I'd rather be playing than watching, same as golf. My city even has a pro soccer team - I've never been to a game and they are not televised - so I can't comment on whether I'd like it or not.

    Detroit Pistons off-season thread

I don't think they will be major changes. I think the biggest issue is getting some better bench guys. After Mcdyess and Hunter there's noone (imo). Call me sentimental - but I can't imagine this team w/o Ben Wallace. He really re-energized this franchise and was what Dumars built the team around. I was really disappointed with Sheed's playoff performance - we will see how bad the ankle really was - but they guy is supertalented and I think he will rebound. As far as the poster above who thinks they can never score over 80 pts - they've been doing it all year except for the latter half of the playoffs. That's really what killed this team - the lack of shooting/ low percentage in the last 8-10 games. I think they can regain that. I didn't really want Flip here to begin with (I'm not just saying that now) but I guess it would be hard task for anyone who had followed LB. I can't see getting a 4th coach in 5 years for this team - I think that would screw things up even more. I liked the "underdog" Pistons better than the favorites, myself. Maybe not winning the 1 seed in the East isn't such a bad thing - lay kind of under the radar - then turn it on in the post-season. Summer should be interesting.

Detroit Pistons (& NBA) Playoff Thread

Well I actually turned it one the radio outside (have outdoor speakers) - 'cause my kids wanted to play out there - but I didn't have to *see* the Heat getting all excited - that's too much for me.

Detroit Pistons (& NBA) Playoff Thread

OK that was so ugly I had to turn it off after the third quarter. Abysmal, embarassing, stunning.... Worst offensive performance I've witnessed by this bunch since they've been together. OK so RIP had 30+. But never has more than one of them brought it for a single game. WTF happened to Billups? Did he get kidnapped by aliens and this is an imposter? The worst part of it is - the Heat were very beatable this series. They deserved to win, don't get me wrong, but with Wade basically a non-factor tonight - the Pistons still couldn't muster a thing. So um, I thought Flip was going to be an offensive minded coach? No O at all - Zip. I don't want to blame everything on him - but wtf was going on out there? Oh well, should be interesting to see if this team implodes in the off-season, or if they make another run at it....? I've generally enjoyed this bunch of characters for the last several years. Esp since the Wings have been ousted early, I've had the Pistons going to at least the ECF for the last 4, so I shouldn't complain. I liked the "underdog" Pistons more than the cocky crew they've become. Just hate to go out like this - at least go out swinging....

    2006 French Open

See I didn't even know that Roddick retired. Yesterday? Not on the news out here anyways. He never does well at the French anyways. Why would they boo Roddick? What a bunch of miscreant tennis fans. To the French fans "I fahrt in your general direction - your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries" [attachmentid=163]

Detroit Pistons (& NBA) Playoff Thread

Well the Pistons pulled one out tonight. Heat still up 3-2. Great game by Prince and Ben Wallace. More poor shooting from Billups and Hamilton, although they helped out in other areas (Billups 10 assists). Rasheed has been absent this whole series. Mcdyess was good off the bench. Game 6 at Miami will be extremely tough - they can't expect Prince to keep carrying them. I give them a shot - but not a good one- Miami is not Cleveland. At least they showed up and won a game instead of rolling over. If they'd only taken one of the two in Miami. (was I the only one watching tonight?)

    2006 French Open

This is the one slam I don't really watch. Alot of it has to do with the match-times. Supposedly they are on ESPN2 here but I'm in a bad time zone to catch any of the matches. Also, in the true spirit of being an American, the French just bug me. I have to agree with Sharapova. My perception is that they are the rudest hosts of the four slams - OK I'm biased- but that's the way I feel. Am I wrong? It didn't help when they booed Serena Williams a few years ago. I guess I just don't like it. Anyhow, I'll pay attention to whose winning, but I'll have scarce commentary.
