Alamo Bowl-Michigan vs Nebraska
RockyMountainWingGal replied to redwings1914's topic in Other Sports
Ditto - unwatchable for anyone not a Husker or Wolverine. Even the ESPN announcers were saying how bad it was. A few terrible calls on the Corn too. BUT, also the biggest Bowl choke job I've ever seen out of the Wolverines. Completely inexecusable, ref tragedy aside. 3 consecutive Bowl losses and tonight to a very very mediocre team whom we should have clobbered. Something has to be shaken up big time in A2. Got the talent - need to do something with it. Oh well, no more college football for me until next fall. Could care less about Texas-USC blah blah blah. Bowl games should all be done by Jan 1rst. -
Alamo Bowl-Michigan vs Nebraska

Since I'm in Big 12 territory, I somewhat follow what goes on... Nebraska fired Frank Solich in 2003 even though he was 9-3 that season, and beat rival Colorado on the road the last game of the season. Then they hired Bill Callahan - mistakingly thinking he would put them back in the national championship games (they did play in one under Solich although they got their butt kicked by Miami). He's done for Nebraska about as much as Mooch did for the Lions. It's possible he'll get fired if they get smoked by Michigan. Enough of the stupid Corn, Go Blue! -
Lang believes Fisch will retire..

Very sad. I was looking forward to Jiri having a long career with the Wings - he's only 25 - wow. I don't see how he could play with himself, his teammates, and his opponents knowing he could drop onto the ice at any second during any game. It's not worth it - but it's ultimately his decision. It would be cool if he could do something with the Wings org. though. -
I feel very very sorry for you. Luckily I have always liked other NFL franchises (ie Broncos) so I don't really care that the Lions perpetually suck.
-
Urban myth - Avs have two decent goaltenders - Budaj has played well in every game except vs the Wings. We need a #1 goaltender far more than the Avs do.....

What are you smoking - I want some?

3 Way Deal Involving The Wings, Bolts, and Ducks
RockyMountainWingGal replied to e_mcgrath88's topic in General
Horrible trade - get rid of Osgood. Problem is he's probably not worth much on the trade market. -
That's an understatement. The Lions have the worst management and ownership in the NFL. Firing coaches is nothing to get excited about. God himself couldn't guide those sad sacks into a winning season.........
-
The Lions have bad ownership, bad management, and a formerly-good-but-now-bad coach. Even if they fire Mariucci, if they don't can Millen it just doesn't matter. He is a bad GM - one of the worst in the NFL. There's not much you can do about bad ownership but not show up to games and hope they sell the team. I don't see that happening. A sad situation. One of my good friends flew back to Michigan just to go to the Lions Thanksgiving day game - I feel bad for him to fly all that way to watch that garbage. Plus he gave up a Rolling Stones ticket for that night - what a mistake that was!
-
Don't feel so bad. Some people have wasted years, even decades watching them. I'm not one of them - never been a big Lions fan - you saw why.
-
I wouldn't do it either. Call me sentimental - but Rasheed is an integral part of the Pistons team - I guess I'm not a big Garnett fan. Yeah I know everyone says' he great - but where has that gotten his team? I'd stick with Sheed - keep the good chemistry flowing.... ps. Go Pistons tonight vs the Nuggets - I can't believe they're on at the same time as the Wings-Avs! Both televised finally for me and on at the same time! ugh!
-
This rumor is floating around in the Pistons thread below too. I don't like it. Rasheed is a great fit in Detroit and has great chemistry with the team. He was a huge part of winning the title two seasons ago - no Sheed no championship. Call me crazy, but I wouldn't do the deal.

Congrats to the Buckeyes. Turned out to be a decent game after that snoozer of a first half. I thought Henne played great. Carr's big problem imo is simple "too many FGs not enough TDs in the red zone". He's kicking field goals from the 5 yard line - come on have some guts - no guts no glory. One TD instead of a FG gives you a W. Same for other big games this year and last (see Rose Bowl). Anyhow mediocre season. We can beat up on some 1AA team in the crap-bowl!Congrats to Penn State - go Big Ten. Looking at the rivalry in retrospect - they were pretty much even during the "10 year war". Then Mich had the upperhand for awhile - esp with Cooper in Columbus. Now OSU has the upper hand - but hey we'll sneak back up on you when you least expect it!
-
Hey now that's personal. If I could, I'd upload a pic of my girlfriends and I in college - you could judge for yourself - but we were a pretty good lookin' bunch (one of us is a newscaster in your market ). Yeah that's right, I'm a UM grad with a PhD but I can't figure out how to upload pictures onto a message - never works for me for some reason!
-
God I hope he's not the second coming of Coleman Young...
-
Yeah that didn't work out so well for you guys last time did it? Both teams are playing well - I think OSU has a slightly better team but not by much - plus it's at the big house so I give Michigan the edge. Go Blue!
-
Hey I feel for you - the one year Purdue doesn't have to play UM or OSU and what do they do? Absolutely nothing.....
-
yeah that's what I liked best about it - maybe every arena should flash those slides before they play the Pistons - anythinf to get Rasheed fired up!
-
Let them stay doubters - the Pistons like being the underdogs. I actually think the Pistons enjoyed being about 5-7 points behind in the second half last night - just to show they could turn it on big in the last few minutes - totally awesome. Saunders seems great from what I've seen (hard not to at 5-0 I guess).
-
Great entertaining game vs the Suns so far - tied at the half. Beats watching the Canucks get their ass kicked.
-
I agree the Lion seem to be a cursed franchise. I've got 15+ years on you and they've been bad-mediocre my whole life (mostly just plain bad). Mariucci was a good coach before he came to the Lions. They got a #1 pick and got a dud in Harrington - yet other franchises wind up with the Mannings or Rothlisberger, etc. Brady was right under their nose - yet the Pats get a superstar in the late rounds. It doesn't help that their management isn't top notch either. I don't mean to be so gloomy, but it is just that bad. The only thing Lions fans have to look forward to is a potential win on Turkey day every year.
-
Someone's still watching the Lions?
-
Impressed that Michigan won tonight vs Northwestern. I only saw the first half (left to go to the Avs-Nucks at halftime) - have to say I was worried when Loyd kicked two field goals in the red zone - thought that would come back to haunt us. Looks like the D played great in the second half. Whoo-hooo bowl eligibility! Looks like the UM-OSU game should be a big one as usual....

Women don't care as much about other women being *** - or sharing a lockerroom with them. Don't jump on me guys, but male athletes are less likely to tolerate an openly *** teammate in the lockerroom. It will probably change someday, but not soon. Being *** has nothing to do with your job as a professional athlete, I don't see how using sports as a forum for announcing one's homo (or hetero) sexuality helps anyone's cause....

Both teams need to win one more game to be bowl eligible. Michigan could easily lose on Saturday. Sure it could be the "toilet bowl", but at least for UM, beating a mediocre team in a sub-par bowl would actually be a good thing after getting beat by two top tier teams the past two years... For MSU, just getting back into the bowl scene will be a good start.
