Hey I missed the end....Mich kicked a FG in OT - I left for a min to take care of a crying kid - came back...game over... Did the Spartans turn it over or miss a FG???

Look at the other side of the coin though: Carr is better than Bo or Mo: neither won a national championship and struggled in the Rose Bowl. Loyd at least got there and won a big one. Yes, he's conservative, but that's a relative term - compared to his predecessors he's far less conservative. The Carr teams have at least been more exciting than the "3 yards and a pile of dust" teams. I can't argue with the fact that he's blown too many of the big games lately, but that doesn't erase the good run he's had as Michigan's coach. btw, stupid game is only locally televised for those of you in the midwest/Michigan. Luckily, I get the ESPN game plan - I even invited some of my Spartan friends over since they won't get the game. 10am too - ugh - have to be gone in the morning, so will miss much of it. Just hope it's at least close and interesting when I get back.....

Joseph Harrington is HORRIBLE

btw, Joey Harrington looked pretty good last weekend. I watch the Broncos, and I think Plummer's a dudd, but he doesn't look all that bad when you see the Lions play.... -

Actually, I love MSU and I've watched every game that Stanton has played in, he's very good for college... But he just isn't a good enough of a passer to make it into the first two rounds of the draft. Is that what they said about Tom Brady too? -
5-5 Bowl record doesn't bother me, considering we're often playing top 5 teams (ie USC, Texas, etc) 3-4 vs the Irish is very sub-par, considering they haven't been very good for much of this stretch, but it is a rivalry series 1-2 in Rose Bowl: not great, but UM has never played well on the West coast - it was worse under Bo 5-5 vs OSU: probably as expected considering the heated rivalry and talent of both teams 3-4 vs Pac-ten; so-so; most of those games were on the West coast though - those pansies rarely want to fly up to the midwest to play. As a Spartan fan, wouldn't you take most of Carr's statistics over the course of his coaching? I have nothing personal against Lloyd Carr - I have liked him as the Wolverine's coach since he arrived (better than Bo if you ask me). I also respect that UM tends to keep coaches around for awhile and rewards loyalty (although I thought Mo was terrible). How many coaches has MSU gone through during this time? Sabin, Williams (?), Smith?? I'm still not sold on Smith - he's just "OK" - I certainly don't see him as being better than Carr. Point is though, that I think it is OK to question the coaching tenure of Carr - and if it turns that the University thinks it's time for a change, then so be it. But I'm not calling for him to be "fired" in the heat of the moment.

I actually disagree. The national pollsters are always happy to rank UM in the top ten, often top five, and even #1 preseason. It usually winds up working against us (see this year). I would rather work my way up through the season a bit (although the BCS will screw you that way too if you wind up #3 undefeated). Although I'm a UM fan & grad, I would rather see a team from Michigan win the big ten title - therefore if the Spartans keep on their roll and beat us, I will root for them to win the conference. The way they are playing, it seems likely. Plus, it's been several years since they won, and the Spartans get one in eventually. Don't see it being a blow-out though.... What are they saying about Carr in Michigan? I like the guy, but hey it might be time to go.....problem is UM usually hires from within so getting "new blood" and ideas isn't really an option....I still think Michigan has a very talented team...things just aren't going their way and they keep shooting themselves in the foot. Probably going to miss most of the game Sat - hope it's a thriller...
-
Congrats to the Spartans. REALLY thought they were going to blow it with that pathetic 4th quarter performance - thoughts of last's years game vs UM . ND showed some guts coming from behind like that - when you get to overtime it usually means both teams deserve to win - but hey the Green and White came out ahead. Still not sure about Smith - but you have to give him credit for this one....
-
Wow! From a michigan fan saying GO SPARTANS. That is soooooo thoughtful. Almost makes me want to root for Michigan tomorrow as well. Why not - I even had my Spartan friend over for dinner tonight.... (Considering I live in Colorado where Spartans are quite rare....) P.S. Hubby's an Eastern alum..go Hurons, um I mean Eagles.

I have to agree - the Supreme court case just gave UM that reputation. Simply stating that "I know 4.0 white students who didn't get in" is ridiculous. Alot of 4.0 students from many races don't get in. Life isn't fair - the college admission process takes into account many other factors. Someone's always crying about why they didn't get their chance but someone else did....wah. One of my best high school girlfriends and I both applied to Berkeley - I had better grades and ACT/SAT scores - yet she got in and didn't - probably because she was legacy'd by her father. I wound up at UM and had the best four years of my life - with friends I will have for the rest of my life. Point is, you never know what cards life will deal you - and many times it works out for the better. OK so I'm way off topic, anyhow coming from a UM fan - for what it's worth - Go Spartans tomorrow!

What you want is for all the othe big ten teams to win except when you play them. A poor showing by the big ten doesn't help Purdue's standings - unless you're only worried about winning the big ten, and not bigger things. Even though UM lost, I still wanted OSU to beat Texas...oh well, Longhorns could take the title. All I know is I will root very hard for USC to lose every week - sick of them and their pansy schedule and their "macho-man I'm only taking one dance class" quarterback.
-
Kind of getting off the hook this year w/o OSU or UM on the schedule... The big ten needs to add a team and make it a north/south with a championship like most other conferences.. Kind of bummed myself about 3 big ten teams losing - all ranked high - not good for the conference. But hey if your Boilermakers have a chance to go unscathed, I'll root for them....

Federer..... ....getting tired of that guy... Great match by Andre - had him on the ropes there in the third set - but Roger seems to come up with the goods when he needs it most. I guess I'm glad that he didn't get completely smoked by him, but still, would have been so cool to have the 35-year old US guy win, sigh. No tennis until January, essentially......
-
Yeah I know - I was disapproving of that other guy "Desert" using stupid names to personally attack people. Criticize all you want - it's all part of good sports conversation - it was just the crude name calling I object to (not by you).

If you're from Michigan, you should consider moving south of the border to South Bend - I'm sure they'd be happy to appease your slander down there... Why wouly I move to Indiana? I can't stand the Fighting Irish. Maybe you should stop watching TV, listening to the radio and going on the internet. Otherwise, you might find people with opinions that differ from yours (a crybaby scUM fan, I assume). I really don't care what team you're a fan of, or if you like UM or not. It's juvenile remarks like "crybaby fans" and "scUM" that make you sound bitter. Why don't you just post less inflamatory remarks like timothy. I'm not going to spend all day in here laughing at the Spartans if they lose.....

It's funny, most of the Spartan fans I know get a bigger kick out of hoping Michigan loses, then they do rooting for their own team to win??? I don't know how you can root for Notre Dame with a straight face - I always pull for the Spartans when they play the Irish....
-
The curse of the top 5 ranking strikes again! The preseason rankings are a joke - my friends and I were aghast when they put us at #4 preseason (in the poll I saw). I would rather be ranked much lower and climb up if you keep winning... I predicted this lost last week - Notre Dame played great vs Pitt and UM kind of plodded along vs N Illinois. Carr needs to go - losing too many big games recently - time for some new ideas....talent is there - jsut need to execute...
-
Come on Leyton Hewitt - at least take this guy Federer to 5 sets and wear him out! Hewitt+Roddick=mental breakdowns vs Federer...... I'm guessing ( ) Federer will pull this one out - Agassi has a "shot" if he's worn out - a long shot, but still a chance....
-
Rooting for Dementieva huh? Have to admit I was pulling for Dementieva too - she played so well vs Davenport. Didn't get to see the matches today as they were on while I was at work..... Mary Pierce - boring. I like Kim Clijsters - pulling for her!!!!!
-
Yup - apparently it's some glitch about living in the western time zone. Folks on the east coast got to switch back to CBS for the remainder of the match (es) if they go past a certain time, while us folks out west don't get that option - cause Letterman, Leno etc are still on the networks.... The stupidity of some of these network people.... What the he!! do I pay these satellite companies for?? Enough griping - looking forward to Hewitt-Federer (looks like Roger will win the current match). Hope your boy Hewitt can play a great match and maybe even win!!! Although I'd fancy Leyton a bit more if he still was dating Kim Clijsters - one cool chick - bad move on his part.... GO AGASSI!!!
-
Well, I was watching this awesome match between Agassi and Blake - then boom! USA network cuts the match off in the middle of the 5th set - wtf! I want to email those bastards and let them know how I feel about them cutting off a match in the midst of it - just to air some old Law and Order reruns - wtf again! Come to think of it, same thing happened last night in the Venus-Clijsters match. I'm really pissed - anyone else have this problem? Anyhow - love both players - may the best man win!!!
-
Holy crap - haven't tuned in yet and Roddick is already out - didn't know until this morning. This is really bad for me (and US tennis) because I'm not all that interested in watching the men's side anymore. I'll cheer for Agassi, but if he goes out I probably will wait 'til the final to even watch.... I guess I'm rooting for someone to beat Federer any which way.... Hopfully the women's side will be interesting......
-
Don't feel so bad.... we're stuck watching the Rockies out here - the worst team in baseball....

Miami Heat acquire Walker, Williams, and Posey
RockyMountainWingGal replied to Rice's topic in Other Sports
Deja vu from last year when everyone said the Heat would kick our butts out of the playoffs (well they came close, but that doesn't count). -
Terrible - I had the game on in Denver but I wasn't paying much attention - I was shocked to hear he died. They are speculating heart attack, but I bet he had some kind of cardiac myopathy/hypertrophy. It kills alot of (mostly) men at a young age and is not easy to diagnose yet. Beware of a family history of such matters, as many of these diseases are hereditary. (Sorry to be so gloomy but I used to work in a lab that studied this)
