Must be nice to be in the East. Drawing the likes of the Senators every year in the first round.... I kind of like the Sens - but they are not much of a match-up for the elite teams of the league. One can dream though....
-
So put on your Hawks jersey if we draw Chicago. I'm not afraid of the Hawks. Last time I checked the Wings beat them last matchup in an entertaining fast-paced game, Quenneville is 5-16 vs. the Wings in the playoffs, and we beat them 4-1 last year. The Hawks are much improved this year but they are shaky in goal and they also have the Hossa curse going against them. I'd prefer that the Wings not meet the Blackhawks in the first round because I think it would be a great series for 2nd or WCF, but right now I'd take the Wings in a matchup with the Hawks. Stop being afraid of teams that have never done anything or won anything....

Good post - the first goal was awful and set the tone but he did improve deeper into the game. Don't know why anyone would want a player wearing Red and the Winged wheel to fail - but Oz doesn't instill in me much confidence that he can come in and get the job done in a pinch if needed. He is our B/U goaltender now so I do expect him to be able to step in at any time and pick up where Howard left off....don't care about rust or not - that's his job now and I hope he is able to do it.

Have no idea where the poster is coming from. Red Wings fans can make a great case for hating the Penguins. But I find little fault with the Caps. In fact, if the Wings don't win the Cup - I'd just assume the Caps take it home. I like their coach and think Ovie>>>>Sid. There are far more teams I would put on my "dislike" list than the Caps. The only thing that might rile up some bad feelings vs. the Caps will be a final series between the Wings-Caps. Let's hope one of these days soon....

^^ No life after Lids for me. I could see Yzerman coming for several years prior, Feds was shocking but I survived, Shanny was a long term rental, but Lidstrom was always there......not sure what will happen, not looking forward to it. It's the apocalypse as far as I am concerned.

Realistically I don't think any Wings are winning awards this year. Datsyuk has won the last two - so unlikely as he has not blown away the competition. But let's focus on making some noise as a lower seed this POs - a different route, a different feel, but I like it and am ready for the ride....

Huet to start the Hawks next game
RockyMountainWingGal replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
I think Oz lost to the Jackets something like 8-2 or 8-0 late last season. Then he was stellar in the POs again. Then again Huet is NOT Osgood..... -
Why is there so much love for Filppula on this board?
RockyMountainWingGal replied to ebl96's topic in General
Well Sammy is gone, and Ozzie has not been playing, so some people are looking for a new scapegoat I suppose. I like Flip (saw him close up at the Pepsi Center last week ) - not sure what the complainers want out of a guy that is a solid role player. He's not Z or Dats but he's not expected to be. And he's young. I thought he played great in the POs in 08 and was pretty solid last year as well. And right now he's got one more Cup than Hossa.... -
The Wings were the #1 seed and won the Cup without Hossa. Therefore I dismiss losing Hossa's REGULAR season goals as an excuse. Definitely losing the depth of Sammy and Hudler hurts though.
-
At least he played well in the Olympics and earned the medal. I can at least respect that (kind of). He sucked in the SCF last year - yet paraded around with the Cup like he was the MVP (not) - all the while forgetting a little tradition that was started long before he was born....

3/1 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Avalanche 2

3/1 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Avalanche 2
RockyMountainWingGal replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Nice to see all the Wings fans out in force at the Avs game tonight. Winning in their barn just never gets old.... The two Avs fans we were surrounding were lamenting their fate. Got the token Homer recall - and still won (3-2 scoreboard 4-2 actual). Nice to see Lilja back. Fun to be on the glass (for once) watching the Wings - likely my only NHL game this year. Here's to STAYING in a PO spot and keeping the winning going.... -
GDT 2010 Olympic Gold Medal Game: Canada 3 vs. USA 2 (OT)

It's embarrassing in and of itself that someone allowed that guy on their National team. -
2010 Winter Olympics - Quarterfinals
RockyMountainWingGal replied to redwings8831's topic in General
Not only that but there is meaningless mind-numbing programming on - shopping, talk shows. Why tape delay? morons. I'll stream for a bit longer til they cut in...not sure if they will cut in the middle or start at the beginning... NOthing like having the Olympics in your time zone (or close) and STILL getting hosed on the coverage... -

Yes it is coming up in the guide now. I'm a bit confused though because the game is listed at 12:00 PST but coverage starts one hour later on NBC?? Hope they are not cutting in the middle. -

Chris Osgood proves Jimmy Howard should be in goal for Red Wings
RockyMountainWingGal replied to Dominator2005's topic in General
Are you employed? Because I am, and I know my employer expects "results" and not "excuses". That's just the reality of life dude, and Ozzy makes a hell alot more money than me (or most people here) to put up results.... Just the facts m'am -
Dombrowski=Millen. Trading Granderson would be like trading Z in a year or two if he has an off season. I am a lifelong Tigers fan but am uninterested until DD is gone. I also think baseball will have to be reformed soon so that teams like the Yankees and Sox don't wind up in the end with all the other teams' hard work and development. What a joke - how many players have the Tigs given away to the Yanks? The no salary cap in baseball in 10x worse than the NHL ever was. I cannot take the sport seriously anymore except for pure entertainment - it really doesn't matter who wins in the end. The only thing I can do as a fan is stop giving them any of my money - easy enough. Really sad for Tigers fans everywhere. Fire DD! He can go hang around with Millen on TV....

Officials...Conspiracy or Incompetence?
RockyMountainWingGal replied to Brad Kepler's topic in General
Agreed but logic seems to be missing in the whole NHL review process. In watching the replay - the whistle was blown long after the puck went in the goal - so at what point was the ref *intending* to blow the whistle otherwise?? Would it have made a difference in the game? I don't know the Wings were slow out there - but it shouldn't matter whether it's a close game or a blowout or reg season or POs - they should at least attempt to get it right, and in this fan's opinion they don't. -
Agree MLB sucks s***. The sport itself I still find interesting : my son just joined a league last summer, my father was a high school/college player, my grandparents listened to Ernie Harwell before they had a TV. The only Yankee I somewhat admire is Jeter - the rest of them are frauds. The salary cap disparity is baseball is far more egregious than anything the NHL ever saw. Plus the fact the Wings found a way to win in a very even playing field (even though i have some probs with the nhl cap). How would the Yanks fare in a MLB cap world? who knows - they would still be a destination for players wanting to play for a storied franchise. I also heard a story on sportsradio about teams purposely spending as little as possible to field a team. They get to revenue share with the big spenders like the Yanks/Sox - it is a big money making venture so there is no incentive to field a good team that costs more... All in all being a fan of an AL team - the fact that the Sox/Yanks will outspend everyone is just ludicrous and makes it near not watchable. MLB is the worst organization in pro sports hands down. Congrats Yanks? No, I don't think so - sport is just too tainted.

Free deal soon to end and time to buy Center Ice
RockyMountainWingGal replied to Stiffy's topic in General
You should make this into a poll... My answer: NO. While I can afford it at this stage of my life, it is still not worth the money since I really only want to watch the Wings games, not all the other games. What I usually do is see how I feel in mid-January when they offer half price - if the Wings are in the mix then I buy it. For now, I stick to football season and stream Wings games somex...... -
For all of the Sammy haters out there
RockyMountainWingGal replied to StevieY'sguy's topic in General
There was a reason they got rid of Willy in the first place - sorry not a fan. I know he was the cheapest and *only* thing available, but I would much rather have Sammy back. Bigger guy, reliable depth player, seemed to have timely goals in the POs. Did come with faults for sure, but I could overlook them. Willy is looking OK now (because the rest of the team is sucking). For the Wings sake I hope he works out. You have to figure he's had ALOT of extra time off these past few years than the rest of the Wings though. -
I'm ambivalent about Leyland. I like him personally, he puts his heart into it, and he does what he can with the players he is given. I don't understand alot of baseball decisions myself, so some things he does puzzle me (like pitching Figaro the other night, or yanking Porcello last night) but all managers do those things. I do have concerns about how his teams fade down the stretch every year. This is a recurring theme and it is very worrisome....
